I just got some information from ABD about the South Africa ABD and changed requirements for children to enter the country and was asked to bring it to your attention.

As of June 1, 2015, South Africa has new requirements for children to enter the country. Children under 18 have to have an "unabridged" birth certificate in addition to a passport.

Also, if they are traveling with just one of their parents, you have to have an affidavit from the other parent (unless the parent traveling with the child has sole custody or the other parent is dead, and you need documentation of either of those).

Here is a link with all the details: http://www.dha.gov.za/files/Brochures/Touristadvisory.pdf

Thank you Sayhello.

Being foreigners living in the US we are well versed on the importance of notarized travel letters. I wish more people paid heed to these when crossing international borders. It would be extremely unfortunate to be denied entry to a foreign vacation destination because someone didn't have a notarized letter from the other parent. Travel insurance would not cover the cost of the missed trip.

Dh is getting my letter for Australia on Monday. We are so so excited!

The part about an unabridged birth certificate is interesting.
