Our son will have less than 6 months left on his passport for our next trip.
I'm aware that it's not required for US entry, but I was thinking I'd have his passport renewed early (expires in october, we go in august, I would renew in April)

My question is with the autmated kioks. His new passport would have a new passport number. Does anyone have first hand experience regarding using the kiosk with a new passport ?
CBP says that in order to use the kiosks, passengers need to have entered the US at least once since 2008 , but they don't say a word about it being on the same passport or not. (he entered the US on 4 occasions, but with his current passport number, and he would have a new one)
We're connecting in Atlanta, and I could ask the officer manning the line, but I'd prefer to know before we go.

thanks for your feedback

Good question...that I've also wondered the answer! We're in the same boat as my boyfriend has had a new passport since our last entry to the US.

Hopefully someone knows the answer :)

As he is a child I am sure you will be fine using the kiosks on a new passport.

I think anyone can you use them with a new passport however you will probably have to have a chat with an immigration officer as well. :thumbsup2

I have done it with a new passport. Mine was new (issued in January) when we went in May last year and DH and I used the kiosk without an issue.

Thank you both
Now that I think of it, we have moved house and the adress on his passpprt will not be the one on ours (we don't want to update them now as it would cost for the passport and for new estas)
Hope it won't cause any issue at immigration

I'm fairly sure that when they issue you with a new passport it somehow links to your previous one electronically.

We are temporarily in Australia and have 457 visas electrically. My older son is at boarding school in Scotland and renewed his passport before he flew out last year. The Australian office didn't transfer his visa properly but somehow they found it electronically at the airport and managed to transfer it from his old passport to his new one. I have also heard of them doing that for others so they must have been able in their system to find his old passport number from the new one.
