My 'baby' turned twelve today! LOL I can hardly believe it!! Seems like just yesterday that he was born!
Everything was fine when he woke up this morning (meaning last night's events)
so it was the start of a great birthday day! Birthday's are a big deal to me .. like your own personal holiday! LOL
He'd gotten his 'big' gift before we left for the trip, but I had some smaller things for him, and he got his gifts from Debbi and the girls too. We had to be up in the concierge lounge by 7 am or so. We had 2 guides and there were about 25 people or so in the group. Someone brought a LITTLE tiny baby along .. and it wasn't too happy to be up at that time of morning either! LOL I .. don't know that that was the wisest choice that person could've made ... but ... whatever... they were in another group, so it wasn't really an issue. But frankly, I felt sorry for the other people in that group - ya just don't wanna get up early in the morning, pay the $$ for a special tour like this, where you need to be listening to what the guide is saying, only to have him drowned out by a baby crying! LOL
The safari was just as wonderful as it was last year! and so was the breakfast afterwards. One thing though .. we weren't given FP's for the safari ride afterwards! It wasn't a big deal to us, as we've done it plenty of times in the past .. but it did kind of suck for those who haven't. Maybe it was just an error on the part of our tour guide.
It seemed even HOTTER than the previous days today, if you can believe that! LOL and I know just the environment of AK magnifies the heat .. so we didn't stay all day. We did Tarzan Rocks -- another place where having a PAP or AP gets you better seats!
and then went on to do a few other attractions, including ITTBAB - this is just so cute I can't resist it on each trip! LOL Ev wanted to walk the Pangani Trail, but after that was done, we were all pretty wiped from the heat, so we decided to head back to the hotel for some pool time.
Amanda and James & Debbi actually didn't feel too well, so they stayed behind and we headed down to the pool. We got some lunch from Mara, and just kicked back for an hour or two. Around 2 or so, we came back up and everyone was feeling better, so after a quick change, we all headed out to the MK.
Per Evan's birthday dinner request, we were eating at Tony's tonight. He usually picks the Plaza, but he switched it this year! LOL We did a bit of shopping, got him his birthday button and phone call from Goofy at City Hall! LOL and then decided to check in a little early, and were able to be seated right away.
After dinner, I let him choose what rides/attractions we did, and we set off to do HM, POC, Swiss Family Treehouse, and a few others too (I think I am being too repetitive with naming each and every ride we do! LOL) He wanted to stay for the fireworks too, which was a terrific way to cap off our day!!
We hopped the bus back to AKL .. where there was SUPPOSED to be a birthday cake waiting. In fact, that was another thing I'd writtten/spoke to them about several times before I arrived, AND Juanita reconfirmed with me that morning while we were waiting for the safari .. in fact, telling us that it would be a bigger cake since there were 7 of us this year. Well, when we got in the room, there was NO cake at all! There were 2 cookies and 2 carafes of milk, which had obviously been sitting there a WHILE, because all of the milk in the ice buckets they were sitting in had totally melted!! I was NOT a happy camper, let me tell you! I just about RAN back down the looooooooooooong hall to the elevator, and raced up to the sixth floor, but .. at 10:01, that concierge food area was cleaned up already!! and no cm's were around!
I came back to tell Dave, and he got on the phone and ordered a small cake from room service. He got a WONDERFUL lady on the phone, who, when he explained just why he was ordering a bday cake at such a last minute time, ending up sending a beautifully decorated cake, streamers, etc! alll the trimmings! So, the night was saved .. but I'm telling you, these lapses in efficiency just do not leave me with the best "taste" about AKL's concierge...
