I'm starting to think the post office at Castaway Cay is a myth.

Just got off an amazing cruise on the Magic. Best service we've had by a country mile. However, what is the deal with that post office? Is it open once every five years--for three minutes--during an eclipse? It's starting to become a running joke in the family. This was our 4th trip to CC, all at different times of the morning. Not only is it always closed, but everyone looks at me like I'm nuts when I ask when it opens. I must admit I'm getting obsessed with something as silly as mailing a post card. We have one more ship to visit to complete the grand slam (Fantasy) and I'm determined to see this sucker. Can someone who has completed the postage quest please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you.

You're not doing anything wrong. It's just that the post office (staffed by a Bahamian gentleman when I was there to mail some cards) runs on "island time"!

Our last cruise the post office was actually open when we walked by so we stopped. A gentleman took our money for a stamp and put our postcard in a pile without any stamp. Figured that was the last we'd see of that card (mailing it to ourselves as a nice post cruise reminder) but low and behold, 2 months later we received our postcard. Maybe they batch mail by the week (or month) but mailing out a reminder from Castaway finally did workout for us.

BTW you are doing nothing wrong but maybe not taking DCL cruises often enough. Figure it will take 4-6 cruises and you should by then have proof that building actually is used for a few minutes each day once in a while.

Well if you are lucky enough to be there when it opens, don't expect your mail to ever make it home. Our postcards never arrived :(

It runs on island time, mon! Actually, it was open on New Year's Eve when we were on our Wonder cruise. I was shocked!

We were there on February 3rd and it was open the entire day we were at CC. We mailed a postcard home to ourselves but still haven't received it a month later. I keep holding out hope that it will arrive and be a complete surprise to my daughter from Minnie. Although I won't be terribly upset if it doesn't arrive because I've read on here that several people's cards have never made it.

We've managed to mail postcards on every cruise, usually in the afternoon we wander over after lunch and this has seemed to work for us. :confused3

I've never visited the post office at CC, but my in-laws apparently did during our Thanksgiving cruise because we got a postcard from them about 6 weeks later!

I've only seen it open in the afternoon, never in the am as we get off the ship. It took a little over 2 months for postcards to arrive each time. The first time we mailed cards off, I completely gave up on them and then eventually forgot about them! LOL! After that we were prepared! It's still faster than Mexico mail, which took 3 months and 1 day to get us a postcard that we mailed while on vacation!

We've given up on the post office and I give our postcards to guest services on the ship...they ask if you want a Bahamian stamp (and a Castaway Cay cancellation), or a US stamp (mailed at Port Canaveral). We've opted for the Bahamian stamp, and, yes, it still took a couple of months, but we did get them!

not a myth it opens but by the time you get the post card you would have forgetten that you even mailed it...

It really his or miss. It has not been open on my last 4 cruises. But, a fried who did a CC double-dip just after one of mine said it was open both days.

We never had any problems and we sent postcards to France ! Mind you, during our last cruise, all our postcards made it... except in the French port !

So, from what I'm understanding from your posts, "island time" means, as Gabriel Iglesias said in his comedy special, "We get there when we get there." :)

We have gotten numerous post cards over the years. However, there have been plenty of times that it has not been open.
