Hi there,

Boy, are we ever getting excited, we get into the car on August 16th!

To make a little extra $$$ for our trip, I started making "Neck Coolers", they were great last week in that oppressive heat.

I, of course, made 5 for my own family, and have a few left over, since before they are hydrated they fold very flat I am bringing a few to the parks with me and when I see someone who looks like they are having a hard time coping with the FL heat, I will give one to them! I am feeling the magic before we even go!!!!!

What a Magical idea !!! How long are you going for, and where are you staying? My sister and I are going Aug 20 - Aug 26th and staying at POP. If we see a family with neck coolers on, we'll be sure to say "hi" !

We are going to be there from the 18th -29th and we are staying in Downtown Disney at the DoubleTree, The neck coolers are Lime green with little surfers on it!

We are leaving august 15th for WDW can't wait . We are staying at the BW Movieland for 5 days then 4 days at the Nick hotel .

We'll be there Aug. 21-28 at POFQ. I'll be looking for those lime green neck coolers too! What a great idea! I can't sew a stitch but I bet you could make a fortune at a craft show around here right now (SW Ontario). It's stinking hot but it just gets us used to WDW in August! Have a great trip!

What is a neck cooler?

It is a long 3 inch wide piece of material that has 4 pockets sewn in with some granules in each pocket. The granules are basically what's in a baby's diaper, it's used in floral arrangements, each granule can absorb 200 X its weight/size in water..... So what you do is soak it for about 30 minutes or more and it gets fat in the 4 pockets and you tie it loosely around your neck to keep you cool, the absorbed water continues to evaporate as the day goes on. I hope this makes some sense.

That is such a wonderful Idea. How long will they remain cool? Are they reusable the next day?

They stay very cold for the first half hour then they stay cool forever because the water is evaporating slowly, I hydrated mine 2 days ago to mow the lawn and it is still fat, I set it in the window sill in the sun and it is slowly shrinking back to size. But as soon as I want it again, I just let it soak in cold water for 20 minutes. They are reusable, some people say only for 2-3 months but some people it has lasted forever, depends how much you use it I guess!
We'll just throw them in the sink in the hotel when we return from the parks. I want to try it out first because if all of sudden we are carrying 5 of them they will be sorta heavy (for my DH that is!) So maybe on the extremely hot days, definitely in AK, we'll see if the kids are interested in wearing them (not sure about the 12 yr old).
I made lots, and gave some to my older parents who hate the heat, and sold a few to make a bit of gas money.

I plan on making some neck coolers thanks to Langin. I have my matterial and I got the crystals. The ones I got are called "Gel Crystals". At the store they came in several colours but no clear. The man said that the colour doesn't come out. I bought blue. I put a crystal in some water--just to watch it. And guess what the colour came out. I will save this pack for flowers and see if I can get some clear. One little crystal is still swelling--It is amazing.

DH is actually getting excited, we all are , even with driving without the AC, Yikes! We will survive , remember where we will be when we finally stop!!!!

We were suppose to leave on Tuesday 16th but now DH say "Hey ,let's leave on Monday 15th, we will stop somewheres on Tuesday night maybe SC or GA and that means we get there the 17th, a whole day early! I don't know if we should try to tack on an extra day at our hotel or stay somewheres else!

I know you all know how we are feeling, soooo excited!

LOL Leave a day early? We've done that so many times, I can't even count. There's something about that "extra" day! We booked a room (Best Inn?) once through Hotel Kingdom The other times, we were at the HIFS and the old Courtyard by Marriott. We just called them up when we got to Orlando and got the AAA(CAA) rate. I'll bet you could do the same at the Doubletree, too.

Have a great time! If you see two women looking happy but lost (i.e. WITHOUT the hubby or kids!) be sure to stop and say "Hi"
