Im very leary.
Certainly dont want what happened to us to ever happen to anyone ever again. Am I really suppose to get excited again that we are rebooked on the Magic? Last New Years Eve when I booked the Magic for Nov 30th I was in my glory. This year I know the Magic is booked for next year but Im not hopeful at all. Please help me get excited once again instead of bashing me.

Barb I am not going to bash you BUT Please try to get over it. You are going to make yourelf sick thinking about sometihing that was out of your control and is over. I understand your disappointment but you can't bring it back. Think about the positives_You are getting a half price cruise, you and your family are healthy, and your son will be a year older and a year more responsible. I think you will have a great cruise and the chances of this happening again are slim to none.Try not to think of what wasn't but what will be.:)

people say it is a half price cruise BUT it cost us 1.5-twice as much to stay at Port Orleans/French Quarter as it would have cost us to stay at our "home" Wilderness Lodge. So no, I dont see it as a savings at all. We had to waste our points this year to have a roof over our head once our plane touched ground in FL!

Maybe you need to cancel the cruise and book something at the last minute. You are really obsessing over this. We are not bashing you but this isn't healthy at all. These boards are mostly filled w/ pixie dust. Don't be tryin to vacuum it up ;) a joke NOT a flame. Move onto something else, reading, crafts etc. and don't get on the boards so much.

Didn't you mom ever tell you that LIFE IS NOT FAIR.....yes, your cruise was cancelled, and yes you had to use points that you had anticipated to stay at WDW....so what.....some people have it much worse than you. Those are the breaks....you just were unlucky this time around.

If reading about everyone getting excited for their upcoming cruises is upsetting you, definately leave the boards for awhile. Not a flame, but just a question....are you looking for more sympathy for your bad experience....you keep posting how upset you still are. Maybe you should talk it out with your hubby and see if cruising is the best choice for you now, since you can't seem to get excited.

MJ

You want to know what isn't fair???? I had THREE friends die this past year from breast cancer. Two had very young children. Two were under 40. Now THAT'S not fair. I would imagine that they would be glad to be alive and have their cruise cancelled. You need to put things in perspective. Be glad you are alive and healthy. Think about the things in life that are really important. I'm sure it was very disappointing but you need to get over it.

Not bashing you but....at least you get the chance to go again....when I booked my cruise for last May it was for 4 of us...in April my 14 year old godson who was supposed to come passed away so he never got the chance to go!

Dear Barb,
I have been following your saga for months, all the anguish you went through pre-cruise (or pre - cancellation) with DH on if he would go or not etc. I did feel bad for you and was quite concerned for you when your cruise was cancelled, however I was glad to see you still went to florida and had a vacation and was pleased to hear you were getting a half price cruise. ( I still don't get your math that it is costing more not less but whatever)
But I have noticed a disturbing pattern with you of late. This is in no means meant to be "flamey"- but I keep seeing you popping up on threads and insinuating that those who are happy should"watch out" their dreams are to be shattered soon too. I do think you need to step back, take a deep breath and put it in perspective. A fellow 11/30 cruiser TChrist has a great attitude about this and he truely has a right to feel the "why me" sensation with what his tests found.

I think you are a lovely person who means well but this has really consumed you. Like kpgclark I have to agree this is not a tragedy, one of my fellow preschool teacher's husband has non- hodgekins lymphoma stage four - they found out only about a month ago, he is only 36 with two young children, my other co-worker's wife found a lump on her breast and she was going for a biopsy this week. Those are life altering situations, a cancelled cruise should not be. It really might be in your best interests to cancel the cruise all together and do a "sure thing" but keep in mind there are really no sure things in life. Disneyworld could burn down etc... a week ago my husband totalled his car- instead of being devistated I was relieved that HE was ok and guess what I got him for christmas -a new car was that in my budget-no, had I planned on that happenig -no but we made it work. Bad things happen you just need to turn them around and find the positive. I wish the best for you but you REALLY need to move on!
Best wishes, Ann

This seems to be a recurring sentiment. Things could be much worse.

Barb,

I too had my cruise cancelled, but not with everyone else. I was called home mid-cruise because my father was dying. Since coming home, we have had too many things go wrong to mention. One of these days, things will slow down for us and start looking up (hopefully within the next couple weeks:) ), but until then, I am looking forward to our next cruise. We were on the Eastern and my husband finished out the cruise. He told me that I MUST do the whole thing so we rebooked for November 1, 2003. I can't wait! Yes, I am still fearful that something will go wrong while I'm gone, but I figure no matter what we do something can go wrong (I can't think of a trip to Florida yet where everything has been perfect, but maybe this time). I know that the Disney cruise was the best vacation I've ever been on (while being the worst time of my life) so I know we have to try again. Yes, a cancellation would upset me. Being quarantined would upset me more. But avoiding what could be the best time of my life because of fears of either of these happening or someone else getting ill while I'm gone sounds silly for me to do. I need to get on with things and frankly look forward to any time off and away from work, cold weather, etc. I agree with the others though that if you feel so strongly now, take a step back and away from the boards for a while. If you don't get excited in a couple weeks or so, maybe you should find something else to do.

Not a Disney vacation but after my dad died, my mother and sister and I planned a trip to Las Vegas. I had no desire to go and I was not excited in any way to go. Once there though, getting away and having fun with my family made me glad that I went.

One last thought, how many cruises have been cancelled by Disney in the past? How many passengers have cruised with Disney since they began? and how many didn't get to cruise 11/30/02? Figure out the numbers. My guess is the odds of it happening again are very slim!! :p

No flames here either, but it seems that every time I log onto these boards there is a post from you that mentions the cancelled cruise, even on threads that have nothing to do with that subject. Lately every post seems to be along the lines of "should we really plan for this next cruise or will that one be cancelled too?". This was the only time DCL has done something like this and yet you concentrate on the remote possibility that it might happen again. You had bad luck. It is now time to get over it.

I was also supposed to be on that 11/30 cruise. I also used many more DVC points than I would have used at my home resort so we could go to WDW that week instead (290 compared to 120). And yet I have not had one moment where I have been bitter, angry or upset. Sure, I was diappointed at first, but I realized there was absolutely nothing I could do to change what had happened so I made the most of it. And truly, it wasn't hard to do. In the end we had that best trip to WDW that we have ever had (and we've had a lot of them) and are now looking forward to our cruise next year.

I also do not understand your math at all. From previous posts I know it cost you approx. 190 points to stay at Port Orleans Riverside for those 8 nights. It would have cost you 126 points in a studio at VWL for those same 8 nights. So yes, you are "out" about 65 points there if you choose to look at it that way. The Eastern Cruise would have cost you 316 points (Cat.10). You are now on the Western which will cost you 234 points (now Cat.6) This saves you about 80 points over what you would have originally spent on the cruise so by my calculations, even though you "wasted" points at POR you are still approx. 15 points ahead.
(A week at VWL + the Eastern Cruise = 442 points...A week at POR + the Western Cruise = 424 points.) So, as I see it, you ended up with two vacations (not the two you had planned on, but two nonetheless), including a cruise in a verandah cabin when you would have had just a porthole, for less points than you would have originally spent. Not too bad in my book.

Just my thoughts.

yup and I understand that the 2 trips equal what I would have spent for 2 trips. Just saying that we are not getting to cruise for 1/2 points as we needed to use those points to have a roof over our head this year.

No, what you don't understand is that the 2 trips come out to less points than you would have spent this year and you now get a verandah cabin and are on a more expensive itinerary. If you had stayed on the Eastern Itinerary in a Cat. 10 you would have paid 167 points for your 1/2 price cruise. Add the time at POR to that you the total is 357 points. Your original plan was to do the cruise on 11/30 for 318 points and spend a week next year at VWL for approx. 106 points (that's for 7 nights) for a total of 424 points. So what do you end up with? A week at WDW that could have been great and a cruise on a new itinerary in a better cabin...all for 67 points less. Yes, that's not as great a savings as it could have been, but it's still a savings and you still get two trips out of it. Trips, I might add, that others wish they could take but will never be able to.

As others have said, this is all about perspective. If you choose to look at the positives (a trip to WDW at the holidays, all of you healthy, a DCL cruise next year) you will be a happier person. I really cannot believe that this is still such a huge issue for you. It really is time to move one.

Ok for the western cruise 2003 in a cat.6 cabin it would be 198 points per adult and 71 for a child so that is 467 points divided by two is 233 points. The eastern 2002 cat 10 was 133 points per adult and 52 for the child or 318 points so you are getting a veranda cabin (which I pay for) for 85 points less than you would have paid for the cat 10. Which on the western for two adults and one child even in a catagory 11 would cost 319 points. For the 233 your half price cruise is costing you no one else could even get on the ship. And based on the notion many folks have that your points are worth approx 10 each that means disney is giving you approx $2,330 off your cruise PLUS you had a vacation anyhow.

I have to ditto what everyone says here.

I mean, even your standard SIGNATURE mentions the fact that your cruise was cancelled.

It's one thing for this board to comfort those who had their cruise cancelled. That's what we're here for, to support each other in every way we know how.

But there's a limit to everything and I can't help but think you're either starved for attention, sympathy, or both.

You're still going on the cruise despite the fact that it was a nightmare getting the first cruise booked with your husband seemingly against every aspect of the cruise to begin with!

You're going again. That's all that matters.

you managed to express my thoughts exactly...

imgoingtodisney, I don't mean this to sound inflammatory, but perhaps this board is a negative influence on your mental health...

Barb, are you getting everything everyone is saying to you? I can't believe w/ all advice we've given you all you can do is correct that fact AGAIN you haven't gone yet. As somebody mentioned, maybe you do need meds. This is actually getting past the point of BIZARRE and onto the COMICAL.

people say it is a half price cruise BUT it cost us 1.5-twice as much to stay at Port Orleans/French Quarter as it would have cost us to stay at our "home" Wilderness Lodge. So no, I dont see it as a savings at all. We had to waste our points this year to have a roof over our head once our plane touched ground in FL!

If it was such a " waste", why didn't you just stay home?

<B>imgoingtodisney</B> - We all felt sorry for you and expressed our sympathy many times over. As has been mentioned, <I>many</I> people have had worse experiences. They have not continued to dwell on them. I was shocked when you posted a Trip Report just to say <B>again</B> that you had no trip report because your cruise was cancelled! Didn't <I>all of us</I> on this board already know that?

PLEASE, for your own mental and emotional well-being, accept the fact that <B><font color=C30003>there are NO guarantees in life</font></B>! If it would devastate you if anything didn't go as planned on your rescheduled cruise (illness, change of itinerary, inclement weather, etc.), the only SAFE option would be to cancel your cruise. "<I><B>The only difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude</B></I>." If cruising DCL will be an ordeal for you, as it seems to have been from the start (DH and his attire, stressing over everything, etc.), you might be happier with a different kind of vacation. We wish you all the best in whatever you decide, but it is time to get on with your life. ;)
