I'm SOO mad at Comcast internet!

I spent about 20 minutes trying to get online tonight and, about 10-15 minutes on hold for Comcast, to try to find out why.

I got someone who was less than friendly, hard to hear and, not sure of what he spoke (like I'd know anyway).

While speaking to him, I finally got online (remember this isn't dial-up). I didn't tell him and, asked him to check if service was being performed, since that happened once before also. No service but, he tells me my 'ISP lease' in the modem doesn't recycle or, turn over, for another 4 hours!?!? WHAT?!?! I pay $60/month and, he tells me about some lease, which is on their end and, nothing to do with me or, my fault in anyway. I ask for a credit and, what do I get? One day = $2.00!!

Needless to say, whatever he told me is a bunch of hooie because, as you can see, I'm online.

I just might call back and ask about this apparent 'miracle'!

(Any suggestions for a new high speed company?)

Oh, I feel your pain!

Gotta love that $2.00/day credit. Really an incentive for our inconvenience, isn't it.

We've had problems with Comcast for a while now. They insisted the problem was our modem and we needed a new one. So, finally I agreed to let them come out as long as they agreed they would wave the $50 service call if it turned out to be something other than a bad modem. So, they came out and replaced it. Guess what, we still have problems. Now the connection disconnects whenever it feels like it. It's really frustrating. For what we pay, I expect better service. Then, everytime I call, someone has me resetting this and that...the problem isn't getting fixed. Uggggh.

Sounds like it's time for a change.

Gee mate, when bigond was having probs earlier in the year we all got a bigger discount than $2.

Can't remember exactly what percentage it was, but it was at least 10%.

Good luck in finding a more worthwhile company to deal with:(

I TOTALLY AGREE!!

And, I DID call back and, I asked the more helpful young lady how this modern miracle happened, me being online all of a sudden and bascially she said, there could've been several reasons and, the guy before just picked one!

I think I'll be checking out DirecTv's high speed offer...I have their cable TV.

Annoying.

Is DSL available in your area? Our internet service was bought out by comcast but so far so good with the service.

Thanks Auriel! ;)

Lisa, I never contracted with Comcast either. The DAY that attbi came out to install the modem, they told me they were bought out by Comcast also. Took several months but, I'm not at all impressed. :( Not sure about DSL around here.

Are you sure he didn't say "IP lease" and not ISP lease?

When you connect to the Internet via comcast, their servers assign you a specific 'IP' address. It's what uniquely identifies you on the Internet from everyone else. Want to know what your IP address is? www.whatismyip.com will tell you.

When your modem connects to comcast and gets this IP address, it is considered a 'lease'. It means that comcast is reserving that IP address just for you. If you shut your modem and PC down, after that 4 hours, that 'lease' expires. When you log back on, it gives you a new one. If you never shut off your PC, this lease will never expire since your modem will keep 'renewing' this lease if your machine is on.

What does this mean? He was just probably reading info from his screen in an attempt to get you off the phone.   Nice customer service!

Yes Jeff, that's it, IP lease.

Normally, my puter's on all the time but, last night I had some trouble and, shut down and restarted twice. Figures, it was my fault afterall....sorta.

You're right, crummy customer service. :(

'ISP lease' in the modem doesn't recycle or, turn over, for another 4 hours!?!?

You can renew your IP by clicking on the Start button, choose Run, type cmd to bring up a command window. Then type ipconfig /release and enter, then ipconfig /renew and enter and it should renew your ip address.

Sorry about the problems you're having with Comcast.

I agree... (of course, this depends on your version of windows, but it should work for you, IMHO)

And Kim, I don't think it's 'your fault'. Three of the most common problems with cable service:

1) Bad splitters - When your signal comes in from the pole, every time it's put into a splitter that looks like this:

m15-1237.jpg

that splitter needs to be a higher capacity splitter than normal. I'm not sure the terminology - I will check mine out when I get home tonight and repost. (I think it's called a gigahertz splitter)

2) You cannot have more than ONE of those splitters before the signal gets to your cable modem. If it gets split more than once, you introduce a much greater chance for signal loss. Which means slower speeds and connection drops.

3) Inferior cabling. If the cable that they used is the 'standard coax' cable that is used for normal cable, then you could be suffering signal loss from that. This is a common shortcut for cable installers. They offer free installations but substandard materials may be used.

My brother used to install cable and was the one that hooked me up the right way, and I never have connection loss. (knock on wood) It just may be my connection too, but I like to think that proper equipment is playing a part in it. I know that with Time Warner, if you've placed more than X number of service calls, they come out for free to check everything and replace what needs to be fixed. Does comast offer that?

I had problems with comcast yesterday. My bf uses it to work from home and they randomly disconnected it yesterday. I spent about an hour on the phone with the tech department and the billing department and both said they couldn't see any reason why the computer set up a disconnect. The bill was up to date and everything was in order but they actually went to the pole earlier in the day, it worked in the am, and undid it... they had someone out there by 4 pm to fix it but my bf couldn't work from about 11-4pm.... nothing but an i understand and i am not sure why it happened from the comcast people.... arghhh...

we are moving in a few months and i will hang on until them but pleeeaasssee...

I had Comcast for 3 months. It was great for the first 2 1/2 but the last couple weeks were horrible. I was down for 3 days, sat on hold FOREVER! I switched to DSL. When I called to cancel Comcast they offered me $19.99 for 6 months. I had been on $29.99 for 3. They even called me twice after that asking for me back. I guess they need more customers.
