studying for graduate school with a bunch of people from around the world. He has had a fever since Saturday, went to the doctors on Sunday and he gave him antibiotic for strepp throat and a fever medicine. It's now Wednesday there and he woke up with 102 fever. He does manage to get it down from time to time throughout the day, but he is feeling awful. It takes him an hour to get to the doctors, and I know he is weak but I want him to go back.
I'm so worried, I"m not used to not being there to take care of him when he's sick. He's so allergic to many antibiotics, (deathly allergic) I get worried he will get something he's allergic to since they all have different names there....I Know he's 22 but he's still my baby. :sad1:

He's been there 8 months and has gotten all kinds of sicknesses, no wonder why everyone wears masks.

:hug: I'm so sorry. It must be really really difficult with him so far away.

Pixie Dust he is well soon.

I hope your DS gets well soon, I can't imagine how worrisome it is with him so far away...:hug:

I cannot even imagine the worry you have. I wish I could say words of encouragement but I think I would be as worried as you.:guilty:

How about some HUGS.:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

First off, :hug::hug::hug:

I know you would feel so much better if you could just see him for yourself. Of course you want to be with him.

If he's really been diagnosed with strep, there's really not much else they can do. It can be MISERABLE. I laid on the couch unable to move for 4 days with strep. I wouldn't make him drag himself back out to the doctor unless he has new symptoms or is feeling worse, or having trouble breathing, or thinks he is having a reaction to the meds. He should be able to tell the signs of an allergic reaction at his age. If he's not allergic to the medicine, it just needs time to work. I hope he's feeling better in a couple of days. :hug:

His fever is still there, he is exhausted during the day and his fever spikes at night up to 103. I'm really getting worried now, he said he can't remember ever feeling so sick and lethargic.
I suggested he go to the emergency room instead of the doctor. He's had a fevr since Saturday and he has no one to help him. I'm so worried:sad1:

Oh my. After a week of a fever that high he should be in the ER. He is probably dehydrated. :guilty:

If he's been on antibiotics for 4-5 days and his fever is 103, then the antibiotics are NOT hitting whatever is making him sick. He needs to be seen NOW- preferably in an ER.

His fever is down to 100 is that and he has no antibiotics left, is that a need for concern? He also noticed that he has a red raised rash on both his forearms.

It's been ongoing sickness since he's been in graduate school there, one thing after another. I've never had stress like this before all I do is worry constantly. I try to stay really busy to take my mind off since it is not a hop skip and a jump to get there. We can't wait to visit him this summer.

YES! His fever should be gone long before the antibiotics are. This means he is still sick. Most antibiotics will have some effect on a bacterial infection, but they have specific bacteria that they are best for. If someone takes the "wrong" antibiotic, they will see some improvement, but it won't get rid of what the root cause is. Even worse, since the antibiotic has killed some bacteria, this can allow a secondary infection of antibiotic resistant bacteria to take hold.

The rash may be nothing or it may be :scared1: My advice from yesterday a.m. still holds.

Urge him to go back to the doctor or the ER. He may have even had strep AND something else.

He may have mono. When you take certain antibiotics with mono, they can cause a rash.

Poor Mama Lynn!

I hope your DS is alright! Please try not to worry too much. :hug:

I had a fever that long this summer that never broke once the whole time I had it. When i finally went to the doctor, boy, did he jump all over me! I beleive he said 3 days with a fever and you should be seen. I know your son saw a doctor but it doesn't sound like it has helped much.

I think you should really try to tell him to get to an ER also. I was dehydrated and felt much better after having IV fluids. Whatever I had (think it was H1N1) went into pnemonia. He shouldn't mess around with whatever this is. And it doesn't seem like he had enough antibiotics to even be a round, does it?

You are right the antibiotics they gave him were for 4 days, usually it's 10 in the States right?
