For over a month now I've been e-mailing with one of the wedding consultants. My wedding isn't until August 17th 2006. I was planning on having the Italian Courtyard for the Ceremony and the Living Seas for the reception. For a month i've been asking questions about the 2 locations, especially the Living Seas, and today I get an e-mail that the LS has a tentative hold on it for a Convention Group!! Why didn't she say anything ealier? Now I emailed the WC back this morning asking when the Convention Group has to give their answer by and she's taking forever to get back to me!
If we can't have it at the Living Seas then I have to change the whole thing.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I live in Canada, and we're going to Disney next week. It was a vacation planned before I even thought about getting married in Disney, but we've managed to schedule an appointment at Franck's. This will be my only visit before the wedding so i was hoping to have most of what I wanted figured out, but now I'm just stressing cause I don't think it will be possible. Does anyone have any suggestions about having a reception else where in the theme parks? Anyone ever use Great Movie ride? What about weddings at MK?

HELP!!!

The weddings at MK have around a $54,000.00 minimum and has to be on a night when the park closes early so your dates are very limited this way. I think if you get married at the Wedding Pavilion and then have a MK reception then the minimum is either $42,000.00 or $32,000.00 I cant remmeber which. I think the great movie ride to has to be after closing for the night but I am not 100 % on that one.

At the moment, I dont think they are doing weddings in the MK.

As for the GMR, I believe your reception has to start after park closing, and there is a $7500 rental fee. I'm not certain what the rental fee includes. In addition you have to meet all the regular FTW food and beverage minimums etc. Ofcourse with a $7500 rental fee to pay, you'll meet those minimums no problem!

Check out Spaceship Earth Lounge. It has a neat view, it's actually in the globe. If you do a search in this forum you can find some pics.
Also, I read that conventions are first priority for venue space, and DFTW may move you to accomodate the convention. I'm not sure how that works once you sign your contract. You should get to sign yours soon, since theme park locations are allowed to book one year out.

Conventions are annoying, that's for sure, but they're just something you have to deal with when you're having a Disney wedding. Until you sign the contract and send Disney your deposit (at 8 months out for my wedding at the Wedding Pavilion/Whitehall if I'm remembering right--although I think theme park brides can sign at 12 months out), there is always the chance of getting bumped b/c of a convention.

Have you considered either location at the American Adventure? The rotunda or the area located on the 3rd floor (I think it's the 3rd floor....there is a sitting area that overlooks the world showcase and there is also a room with tables where you eat). I would definitely also check out the lounge at Spaceship Earth too. When I was choosing my locations, it will still a corporate lounge (and thus unavailable for receptions) which really bummed me out!

Thanks ladies, i really needed to vent. I really hope the convention decides not to take the LS. I look into Spaceship Earth but it's just not the same. The most annoying thing is that the wedding consultant is taking forever to get back to me.

They love taking FOREVER. I went a week without hearing anything when it came for the honeymoon picture package we are going to do.

this happened to me with our illuminations dessert party, we had french island on hold & were bumped by a convention group. my em called me with the news & i was not happy (so i feel your pain), she explained that conventions have priority & can book sooner (which i understand from a business view but felt dissed on an emotional view as i think my event is more once in a lifetime & special). i tried to be flexible & was given 2 other choices available (the convention had booked italy isola, french island & arm), so we picked uk lower terrace for our dp.

hopefully they convention will book elsewhere otherwise maybe try to be flexible with your dates if you really want living seas. another option is ariels at the beach club is also has a seaside theme. best of luck!

Thanks, i'm trying my best to be flexible but the 17th is really special for us and our family. And we don't want to switch weeks cause the Disney cruise we want is on the 19th, and it's the only one going to Costa Maya in August.

Silvia, how many guests are you having? If you’re having 100+, then the American Adventure Rotunda is a beautiful reception venue (not that I’m biased or anything ;) ). Dealing with conventions can be a bit of a pain, but I’m sure things will work out in the end. All of Disney’s venues are beautiful.

thanks, I thought about the AR but i'm hoping I'll only have between 50 -75. LS was perfect for that. I use to be a cast member and I loved the VIP room. You know Disney is just so great and an amazing place to have a wedding that they know theyn can keep us waiting and we won't want to take our business elsewhere. I figured since we're spending over $20,000 (US not Canadian, which is a big deal for me) they would at least do their best to get back to me. But from what i'm reading they love taking their sweet *** time. What i don't understand is when we're they going to tell me? When i got there next week to give them the deposit?

Our wedding got bumped up two hours due to a convention... it was originally at 5PM and that was more important to me than the date, so we just pushed the wedding back a week. Are you able to change your date at all?

I feel your pain. I originally wanted the American Rotunda, but the timing just wasn't working, they wanted us to rent a separate venue (and pay $$$ for it) for a pre-reception cocktail hour, and then rent the AR for the reception. We looked at other options and decided China sounded really cool, but a convention had it on hold, so we waited. First, the convention manager was out of the office for a week. Then the convention manager was playing phone tag with the convention client. But, I finally heard Wednesday that they decided to go elsewhere. So we got China!

Hang in there! It will work itself out eventually.

I heard back today. We really wanted the LS so we moved the day to Wednesday instead of Thursday. Not a big deal but we really would have liked the 17th. Oh well. At least they got back to me. I'm really not liking conventions!!!!

I sort of had the same thing happen to me but for different reasons. I had planned on either Ariels or Living Seas and had already ordered sand castle centerpieces and planned a whole beachy theme etc. Then I found out my fdh's family was about twice the size I had thought and our group was too large to fit at Ariels or LS. My best advice is to roll with the punches. Disney will work with you to make everything you want happen--you just need to communicate your wants (and maybe communicate them several times). Figure out the things that are most important to you and make them happen!

OH:) Also, if you don't have your heart on the beach theme...check out the American Adventure Pavilion--this was my dream location--SO elegant, but I didn't want to start that late (you have to start after 7). Also, I've seen someone on here post about the Epcot ball lounge room. Or you could maybe switch your date for LS?

thanks everyone, I did switch days and i think everything will be okay now. I'm just waiting hear back from Rev. Jack, He said he could do the 17th but now that we're on the 16th i just don't know.Thinking good thoughts

Are you still "waitlisting" so-to-speak for the LS on the 17th just incase the convention folks decide against it?

Either way, congrats on your wedding and good luck with the rest of your planning.

thanks, but I'm not wait-listing. Apparently this convention has booked 5 years in a row. I want to be able to ge everything organized and not have to wait untilt the last few months to do everything. I thought about it but I'm fine with the 16th now! Thanks for the advice
