I just found out yesterday that my 2 best friends are moving on opposite sides of the coast. One is moving to California, August 6 and the other is moving to Florida, September 2. I am so sad that all I can do is cry. The one moving to California has family out there so she will be okay but the one moving to Florida doesn't have any friends/family out there and she has a 7 month old baby. I would like to put together some kind of gift together like maybe a basket. They don't want to move very much stuff so it can't be big gift items, but I would like some suggestions on what to include in a gift basket or any other going away gift ideas.

How about a phone card so she can keep in touch. You might also include an address book with friends info and some notecards and stamps.

Sorry your friends are moving. But, look how close they'll be to DL and WDW! ;)

It is sad for you but so nice that you want to get them a gift. Definetely include phone cards, maybe a photo album, nice frame with a picture of you together, stamps, stationary, favorite candy, gift certificates.

For your friend moving to Florida, I'd order a phone book for her new location, and some state and city maps. Plus any info from the chamber of commerce you can get your hands on. If she has an address already, even a couple months subscription to the local newspaper might help her settle in...

Those are great suggestions above. Also include things that remind you of your friends. Did you both enjoy a special kind of coffee? candy bar? Movie or CD? Things that they can enjoy and remember the memories you made.

My friend moved last August and I miss her something awful. We email all the time but not only was she my best friend but I worked with her. So having the pleasure of talking with her every day was the best.

My best friend is my little sister. Her and her husband are thinking of moving to Colorado the beginning of next year as there just isn't any good jobs here in Vermont. I see you are from Colorado. Any advise as to good areas to move to?

Sorry to hear about your friends moving, Pooh_Friend#1, and some great ideas here already. I justed wanted to say how nice it is of your doing this and it really sounds like you have a big heart, your friends are lucky to have YOU as their frind. Just make sure to stay in touch, and visit in the years ahead.

Ya it's really hard with them leaving because we all worked together for 6 years before my one friend got pregnant and I got a new job. Thanks for all your support, I really need it because I just feel alone now.

You all have had such great suggestions, and I am excited to make some things for them. We have many many pictures and memories together. We were all unseperable for a long time.

Right now the one moving to Florida doesn't even have any plans. They are just moving out there because her DH wants to start over with a new life. They have no jobs lined up for them or even a place to stay. They are planning to live in a hotel for awhile. With her I am so worried because they don't have a plan. My other friend grew up in California and her parents and old friends are there so she will have the support she needs.

Trish - if you want, you can pm me and let me know what your sister is interested in and there is many areas I can suggest. I have lived here my whole entire life. I am also a Human Resources Specialist for a government agency so I may be able to help her with information on jobs. Just let me know. If she moves I am sure you will be devestated, I have a twin sister and if she ever moved I would be devestated.

Now I need to find someone who works for an airline so I can get good deals to go out and visit my friends.

 These are the ones with a small baby? I imagine there are tons of folks who move to Florida daily.....they really need a plan, or some job interviews.

Gift Certifficate to a nursery like Frank's or Home Depot - that way they can buy some landscaping stuff!!

Ya Scarlett, unfortunately these are the ones with the young baby. I was shocked too. Her DH is supose to fly out in 2 weeks to look for a job and then 2 weeks later her and the baby are going out.

My friend that is moving to California is 7 months pregnant and is leaving because her husband got transferred out there. I am not sure that her traveling and being away from a doctor is that smart due to some complications she has experienced with the pregnancy but I can only preach, I can't make them listen. Even through tears, they won't listen!!!

Any more suggestions out there?
