Our school is having a basket raffle for one of our students who is currently going through chemo. At the last minute PTO was asked by a parent if we could make a basket. In 2 weeks I received enough merchandise just from our PTO members to make 4 baskets!!! A teen one, a christmas one, a standard scrappers one, and a baby one. We also got enough stuff to do 2 family fun night baskets. The teacher coordinating the event was so overwhelmed, we have received a total of 45 baskets. Not bad for a school with only 237 kids Pre k -8th and only 25 staff members.
I just had to share! Scrappers are such a great group of people!:grouphug:

P.S. She is doing well and has returned to school just last week. She was diagnosed on the last day of school earlier this year.

Update!! The teachers raised $5000.00 for our student!!! I was so happy with the turnout. Thanks everyone for your kind words! :grouphug:

WOW! What an accomplishment by all! Good luck with the basket raffle!

Thanks!
The raffle is tomorrow and Thursday during Parent/ Teacher conferences. I hope we do well, $20 will get 48 tickets so hopefully we will bring in a good bit of money. I sent each of the kids in today with $5.00 to get 12 tickets. The standard basket I did had well over $40 worth of merchandise in it.

What a great cause and what great fun!!! I wish I were nearby I love baskets of goodies. I hope you do really well, but mostly hope she is doing really well.

that is awesome!!! What a great event you must have had.....:)

Fantastic work, Buffy! :cheer2:

I don't usually have a chance to visit here but I saw the title to your thread and came over for a quick peek. I just couldn't resist saying how touching this story is and how good it is to hear so much was raised for such a worthy cause. My thoughts and prayers are with your student for their returned good health. :)

Thanks Cleo and everyone else.
I saw her the day of the raffle and other than losing her hair she looks wonderful. She has returned to school part time so she won't be to far behind. It has been very difficult on the family because she is the only one who speaks fluent english. The family which is usually very private has been a little overwhelmed by the communities help but it is nice to see them being embraced. We live in a very small town which tends to be very divided between people with kids and those without. Very reminiscent of the divide of the WDW stroller brigade. LOL!
Anyway after the first of the year we will be raising money for another student who has recurring tumors in his face. I don't think we will do another basket raffle but hopefully what ever is done will be as equally successful.

Thanks again!
P.S. Sorry for the "she" references but I don't want to use their names without permission.
