We just got back from seeing T3 at Downtown Disney and there were two strange men in our room doing "preventive maintenance." Now, you can't tell me that there are no empty rooms in which they can change the filters and locks. They called and we weren't here so they just let themselves in. I called the front desk and pitched a fit. Other than housekeeping I don't think any strange people should be allowed to wander around the room unless we're notified first and have the option of being here. I am so pissed. Now I feel paranoid - who else has been wandering around in here?

For not being able to see straight, your post was remarkably free of typos. ;)

I agree...I think in Florida there's some law about that...

I'm sorry you're so upset but I would think many employee of a resort would have access to guest rooms for maintenance purposes. When staying in a hotel if we know we're not going to be away from our room for long we leave the "do not disturb" sign on the door. That way housekeeping or whoever won't be working when we need access.

I agree -- maintenance needs to be able to access rooms for work purposes. I don't know the maintenance purpose of them being in your room at that particular time, but I'm sure they were given a list of rooms to work on, and yours happened to be on it.

I agree with the above posters. Maintenence does need to access the rooms whenever. They did try and call.....

i thought i read on the RB that wdw resorts were running close to 90% capacity. there are only so many rooms that are not occupied...

While I too leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door when out for brief periods of time, I would be most unhappy to find maintenance in my room upon returning - from a short or long absence. I expect to be able to use the room for which I've paid whenever I have need of it - without waiting for someone to leave...unless it is in need of some sort of emergeny maintenance.

Besides, this sounds like routine upkeep - stuff that could/should be done between guests.

Having said all that, WDW is the one place I don't think I'd worry too much about finding maintenance workers in my room - as long as they were polite, apologized & left quickly. Of course, I'm hopelessly naive.

but not upset mee too much. I remember when they used to leave your packages in you r room instead of having to go pick them up. As long as the management knew about this, it should be fine.

I have no problem with people being in my room that I expect to be there. I do have a problem with workmen being there unannounced for work that isn't needed. I don't think they should have come in without our permission unless it was necessary. Replacing a filter and changing a working lock on the bathroom door isn't urgent enough for them to barge in without our knowledge.

We were in DC last week and I saw lots of maintenance people going in and out of room...changing lightbulbs and lamp shades, replacing shower heads, stuff like that. I don't have a problem with it...they are hotel employees and basically they need to do their job.

I agree with APM -- they're maintenance workers, that's what they do. It's not always feasible to do routine maintenance when the room isn't occupied, so they have to do a lot of these things when people are out of their room during the day.

If they could only do maintenance in between guest checking in and out of rooms, you'd most likely have a lot longer delay in getting a room available on check-in day. And we know how people complain if their room is not ready for them when they get to the resort.

I'm not sure I see the difference between a maintenance worker changing a/c filters or locks and housekeeping changing sheets and towels. They all have jobs to do and have schedules that they have to stick to.

It's a Hotel Room, not your Living Room - I don't see any problem with a legitimate member of staff having to access my room for a legitimate reason as long as it doesn't inconvenience me.

I don't see any problem with it. It could be worse - something could have actually broken or the ac could have stopped working while you were staying there

I don't really see a problem with it either...the fact that you think the AC filter didn't need to be changed doesn't mean anything. There are maintenance schedules that have to be followed. As others have said, it isn't always possible to do that when the rooms are unoccupied.

I'm sure it was shocking to come back and find someone in your room. I hope nobody in your party was doing the 100-yard dash to the bathroom! :p I don't have a problem with maintenance coming and fixing things while I'm staying there, though. Unless they are to be in the room as the same time as housekeeping, I don't see how they could get everything done they need to do.

What I did have a problem with was mousekeeping ignoring the "Do Not Disturb" on the door. I had brought DS back to WL for a nap and put the sign on the door. He went to sleep and so did I. 15 minutes later the phone rings wanting to know if I wanted mousekeeping services. No, I want to sleep. Fortunately, DS didn't wake up and I was able to doze off again. 15 minutes after that, mousekeeping CAME IN MY ROOM! and woke up the baby, of course. I was not a happy camper. She tried to make up for waking us up by giving us a tour of the junior suite next door. I didn't realize until we were in there that it was occupied! Talk about inappropriate! If I had come back to find a strange mom and baby with mousekeeping, I'm not sure what I would have said.

Wow. I can't believe you are in Disney right now complaining to us about the hotel staff doing their jobs. Heck, I'd give anything to be there right now. You are very lucky. I sure hope you can enjoy the rest of your stay.

I thinkwe all expect to possibly find housekeeping in our rooms at some point and time, but if you did not call for maintenance, then it would be quite a shock to come back to your room to find 2 men in there. What if they really weren't maintenance workers for Disney? What if that is a scam? A woman was raped at a local hotel here a few years ago because someone was posing as a hotel employee and talked his way into her room. I'm not saying its not legit, but Disney should have left a phonemail or note stating that routine maintenance would be performed during such and such a time. I, too, would have been upset to come back to my room to find 2 strangers there when I wasn't expecting anyone.

I would think that there are very few scam artists that would use keys to enter the room, and then stick around and actually do some work just to make it "look good".

Maybe, unlike Paul Harvey, we don't know "the rest of the story", but personally, I don't see it as a big deal at all.

I'd be a little startled to find workers in my room too, but it wouldn't anger me. I hope things are going better for you tonight and you are taking lots of pictures. I've spent hours on your website! :D
