I have been reading a lot of the Restaurant reviews lately, and i am SO SO SO jealous of these 21 day and 28 day and 31 day vacations these people take ! somtimes with the Deluxe Dining plan !! I wish i had a job that could both allow me to financialy afford to go as well as take that much time off in one lump. I guess its a cultural thing, they always take long vacations over there. I am lucky if i can get away for 10 days. I would LOVE to be able to call WDW my home for a month, that would be so cool. my GF things im crazy, but i could tottally do it. im sure i would even still want more when it was time to leave ! Anyone else jealous of these long wdw trips? by the way, im not jealous in a bad or negative way, i just want to have a vacation that long also !

We are lucky - we usually go for 21 days :thumbsup2 I am envious of you guys on the right side of the pond that can go for a few days at different times of the year.

Our airfares are so expensive - if I was to book a flight to come in July atm it would cost over $1100 each:scared1:

The grass is alway greener ;)

lets trade vacations for a year ! ill take yours, you take mine ! ;)

I will if you are going on the podcast cruise ;) :lmao:

you wish !! nope, you will be getting 8 nights at WDW, and 7 nights at my Mother In Laws where she will talk about Knitting and politics for 23 hours a day. The other. shorter vacations arent seeming so nice now huh?!!

if you only get to take one, you can spend it all at one place. with multiple vacations per year i get suckered into less than appealing vacations more often than i would like to admit....

still want to trade??? didnt think so !! haha j/k, im not really going to my mother in laws for a week, but worse things have happened in years past.

My DH gets 7 weeks vacation a year - 2 will be spent in WDW this year the rest at home with maybe a city break to Disneyland Paris :thumbsup2

Maybe trade next year :lmao:

7 WEEKS?!!! SEVEN WEEKS?!!!!!! make room at the Pub, im moving !! i get 3 weeks a year. I know a girl who works at a Realty office, she gets ONE week of Vacatio per year. ONE WEEK ! i dont know how she does it. she cant ever go one cruises with us, cant go to DL with us, she misses out on so much. I would be in heaven with 7 weeks though, that is awesome. If i were you i would take 6 weeks at WDW , and a week to recover. that would be pricy though !

Wow! 1100 for airfare, each? No wonder you stay so long! Gotta get your moneys worth!
For a 20-30 day holiday in Orlando, is that something like the big trip some families would save years for? That's not cheap to get away for that long!

Actually, now that I think about it, I've been able to almost take a Euro style vacation this month! Now that I think about it! Between vacation days and holidays, I've only worked about 6 days for the month! It's very nice but with all the holidays and travel, I didn't accomplish much! That's the point tho, right? :)

I don't think I'd be able to stomach the cost of 4 weeks at WDW. It would be fun but such a financial hangover when it's done.

I almost feel ready to go back to work! Best of all, they are refilling my vacation cup!

hi i have live in the uk and have 4 weeks off with pay and upto another 2 weeks without pay if wanted and its great have a nice small hoilday in the winter then a long one in the summer

That is why we take the extended trips as you say.

We are planning our first trip to WDW in the summer as we can't take eldest DD off school. To cope with the crowds and weather 3 weeks makes it doable :goodvibes

I think if DH only had one weeks holidays he would crack up :scared1: He is lucky he gets that amount of time off but we dont go away everytime even though I would love to :lmao:

Oh god. I can't imagine only 1 week of vacation. There are people at work that have accrued 50-60 days vacation. I don't understand the problem. You are paid to stay home, take the day off and catch up on laundry, work outside, watch all the unwatched shows on your TIVO. Do something, just use them! It's part of your salary! You are giving back part of your yearly compensation!

Some US jobs allow more vacation time. Take me for instance. I get 5 weeks a year now. But my weeks off are 11 days long due to my schedule of working every third day. We can also trade shifts so I could feasably due a 14 night Disney trip if I wanted. But normally I only stay 6 nights.

Can't imagine what it must be like to only get one or two weeks' vacation a year - that must make the essential Dis trip planning tough!

Over here in the UK we get 20 - 25 days on average (both me and DW get 25), so we're able to plan two WDW trips this year and still have days spare for the xmas week :yay:

We're still behind most of europe - I recall Yvet saying they get 30 days in the Netherlands (making me very jealous).

Do you fare better in the US with public holidays though? (presidents day, 4th July, thanksgiving etc?)

Gav.

Talk about jealous. I have ALWAYS been jealous of our friends across the waters. I am a school teacher so some may argue about this, but I get no vacation days. We are given ten paid sick days per year and TWO paid personal days. It makes planning for WDW a nightmare because we always have to go during the peak seasons and my time is limited.

Take our next trip, for example, we are trying to go at a different time of year to avoid the peak rush for once. NJ has a teachers' convention during the very beginning of October. That's two days off. I am going to combine it with a weekend and take both of my personal days. That'll make it possible to take six days, but we are only going to do five because of the high points cost for weekend stays with DVC. This would leave me with no personal days for the rest of the school year if they were needed.

If we want to go for Food & Wine/Halloween, I am limited in timing. For the past two Octobers I have used my two personal days combined with a weekend. Wow, talk about short trip! The only other trip possibilities are during school breaks when everyone and their mother is at WDW. I have never had the luxury of going during an off-season.

While I agree that I am very lucky to have much of the summer off (unpaid, mind you), it is still aggravating. I've always wished Disney could make some type of accomodations for teachers as a result whether it's discounted tickets for us, a special EMH, etc. However, the chances of that happening are pretty much zip.

With all of this being said, I would not trade my job for any other in the world. I know it is very important to our growing nation, economy, and overall society. It definitely is a shame that we are treated much differently from educators in other countries, but I digress. ;) As a result of my schedule, I have found some amazing strategies and tips for having an amazing WDW vacation during peak season.

This year is the first that i will be going to American and not spending two weeks. My Mom and me are going to WDW for a week, and we don't know how we are going to cram it all in!!
