I have been sitting here going through pictures of the world, torturing myself. My family and I went to the world the first week of october of last year. It was our kids( son -9, daughter -6, son -3) first trip so we really wanted it to be special(my wife an I honeymooned at disney village resort 12 years ago and had not been back). I am a disney world nut, or so my wife says. SO I was pumped for this trip. We had been planning this for three years and finally had the money to go. Here's where things start to go somewhat wrong. Yes, we did invite the whole family, my mom, dad, and sister and my wife's mom and sister. 10 of us total on a grand gathering adventure. The problem with this is that my family and my wife's family are of two different camps, mine is more laid back and wants to just meander and see where the day takes us, my wife's family is a hunt it, kill it, drag it home type of people. The wife and I spent most of the time on our trip trying to keep everyone happy but ourselves. Ya see, my wife and I are both first born children and extreme people pleasers. This mad e the trip for us miserable. It seemed like most everybody else had a good time and our kids seemed to love it. They watch the travel channels hour programs we have recorded on DVR all the time and constantly ask when we are going back. One of the things we were looking forward to was going in the magic kingdom for the first time and seeing the reactions of our kids and just soaking up the atmosphere of our first walk down main street together. Didn't happen. My sister in law took off with the kids ahead of us and were throught the castle about the time that we got to the castle. They hurried us everywhere. I want a do-over so bad, the problem is we are in the process of completing a BIG addition to our house and this year is totally out. I'm not sure about next year having enough money since my youngest son will be close to 5 and that will add more expense for the total price. We stayed at the all-star music resort in on of the suites which we absolutely loved. I think we would pick the suties again over any of the deluxe resorts just for the room it gave us.The best day we had that week was on wednesday we left early to go to D-MGM to get in line to see and take pictures with Mater(my wife's a big mater fan). Since we left early the rest of the family did not go with us. It was a great morning. Well I guess that is enough rambling for now. I'm on spring break from teaching and need to go work on finishing the addition. I will come back later and add to the trip report which I have been wanting to do since we got back and haven't had time. For what it's worth, thanks for reading my rants, guess I just needed to vent a little to someone other than my wife.

Looking froward to your "official" TR! I understand your wanting everyone to have a good time. But, if it is at the expense of YOUR good time...is it worth it? I went to WDW in 1998 with extended family. I won't do it again. The last two trips to WDW were just me, my husband, and my son. We had a fabulous time because we did things on our own terms. They were "go with the flow" people and I need to plan, plan, plan!:lmao: In 2004, I went with a friend and her family. It went a little better, but she was calling me a dictator and saluting me all through the trip! I didn't appreciate that because I was trying to show her WDW in the limited time that we had (4 full days). I doesn't pay to be nice anymore, but I can't help it..I still am!:goodvibes

Hopefully, your next trip to WDW will go a lot smoother. I know mine will be! I'm going back next May with just my husband!

I'm looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip, too! I hope you can find the time to post a really detailed trip report (I'm a detail person :thumbsup2 ) Maybe you can focus on what your kids loved and take heart in knowing they obviously had a wonderful time.

I know exactly what you are talking about, saving-saving-saving for a dream trip and then it doesn't turn out the way you had hoped. The great thing about Disney is that you can always get a do-over! When I win the lottery, I'll send you the money to take your family on the trip you deserved ;) In the meantime, good luck on your addition, and squeeze in a trip report during all your "free" time!
