Forgive me if this post gets a little longwinded, but I'm so EXCITED for DFi that I could burst!! :goodvibes

He graduated the end of October from Upper Iowa University with a degree in finance - he ultimately wanted to end up as a Financial Analyst or a Financial Planner. Well, he's had a few interviews for jobs in the financial field, but not really what he wanted to do, and they never got any farther than a first interview. Most companies wanted people with experience and didn't want to hire a new grad.

Well, the week of 12/7, he found a job posted on our power company's website for a Financial Analyst! All they wanted was a 4 year degree, no experience necessary. :thumbsup2 So, he applied, and Monday the 14th he got a call from them to set up an interview. The only day they were doing interviews was Friday the 18th.. and we were scheduled to leave Thursday the 17th to visit my parents in Clearwater, FL. :sad2: Well, they were INCREDIBLY nice and they offered to just do a phone interview on Friday - so he accepted. The phone interview went really well - it was about 2 hours long.

He didn't hear anything until last Monday.. and then they called him to come in for another interview, in person this time. So he went in last Wednesday for an in-person interview, and was in there for almost 2 hours again. They told him they'd call Monday (today) morning if he got the job.

So, he woke up early this morning and basically just waited. and waited. and waited. I got up and cooked some lunch and took a shower and got ready for work, and he assumed he didn't get it as they didn't call.

Well, around 2:30 today, THEY CALLED!! They offered him the job!! :woohoo: He's so excited and I'm soo proud of him. We both work at the same place right now (a call center, he's a supervisor and I do quality assurance) and last week they told us that everyone was getting a 10% pay cut. So this came at an amazing time. He'll be getting a really nice raise.. about $10k a year, plus a $4k annual bonus.

I'm just so excited for him!! He was getting pretty discouraged because there's not a lot of jobs out there in the first place, let alone for a new grad.

Sorry for the mushy rant, everyone. 2010 looks to be better than 2009 so far! :thumbsup2

That is wonderful news! Nice that you two are working at the same place too. Time to celebrate! :) :goodvibes

Terrific news! There seems to be so little good employment news anymore that I love to hear these stories.

Thanks everyone! It will be a little weird not working together anymore - we've been doing it since high school. He's got some anxiety problems, and our current job isn't really very stable right now, so I'm hoping that the new job will help his anxiety, too.

Congratulations party: I think it is so sweet how excited and happy you are for him

Great news! Congratulations!!

Now all we need is for the Hawkeyes to win the Orange Bowl tonight, and everything will be perfect!!! :thumbsup2

Wow, that is wonderful news! Congratulations :thumbsup2 to you both.

Amen!! :woohoo: I'm stuck at work tonight, but I'll definitely be following along online. My parents moved to Clearwater, FL last spring so they made the drive down to Miami for the game - today happens to be their 25th anniversary too, so Iowa better win!

Congratulations! I'm a Sr. Financial Analyst and there are quite a few jobs out there right now for some reason.

Yeah, there's a TON of jobs around here, too.. but they all want 5+ years of experience. It kind of stinks for all the new finance grads. The good news is that everyone he's talked to that works as a Financial Analyst seems to love their job. The two men that interviewed him for this job had both been with the company for 20+ years, and they said it was a pretty normal thing to be there that long.

Thanks, everyone, for the congratulations! :goodvibes

So, I just had to bump this and say...

GO HAWKS!!!
