I'm so excited about tomorrow but I have a question

Tomorrow is my baby shower. The Dr gave me permission to go as long as I sit and let eveyone wait on me. I told her there will be 30 women there and that won't be a problem. I even have a 4yo who will help me open presents if I get tired!

However I don't know what to get the hostess for a thank you gift. (She's going to have to wait for it unless my DH will go out and get it though) She's my best friend since kindergarten but is my total opposite. She just had a baby boy 6 weeks ago but I don't really want to get her baby things. She enjoys sports, expensive jewelry, is a steak and potaotes kind of person, and a SAHM. She doesn't like to garden.

I thought about a gift cert. for a massage but don't know if she would use it. I can't afford her jewlrey;) , she doesn't do the Bath & Body thing, and her sports team is the Chiefs. (out of season) Restaurant gift cert. sounds so impersonal but I would do it if you all can't help me think. You would think for someone I've known for so long that this shouldn't be a problem! I go through this every holiday.

She does, however LOVE Disney as much as I do!

Does she enjoy reading? My first though was a gift certificate to a book store?? Or a gift certificate for a family type restaurant to give her a night off cooking??

Enjoy your baby shower. I'm sure you'll have lots of help and a great time. :D

Go to TDS and get her a plush animal of her favorite character.:)

Does she like coffee? How about a coffee gift basket?

A bouquet of flowers the day after the shower (or Monday) is a nice way to say, "thank you." We did that after our wedding for our friend who held down the fort at my parents' house between the ceremony and the end of our photo session. We also sent flowers to thank my DH's Uncle for sponsoring us at his country club, and of course, to our parents.

It's not impersonal, and it's a nice way to express your thanks.

How about a gift cert. for a clothing store? She's bound to need something new for herself after just having her baby six weeks ago. It's also something dh could easily pick up for you. Have a great time at the shower :D .

I would go with Disney Dollars or a gift certificate but also include something personal. You said that you have been friends since kindergarten. Would you be able to find a nice picture of your friend and you together when you were kids? If so, frame it along with a message about friendship. I did this type of thing as a gift and the person was really touched.

Have a great tomorrow!!!!:)

She doesn't read, and she doesn't do coffee. But the idea of flowers and a stuffed animal sounds good, although the animal will probably go to her 4 yo, her DD will probably steal it! Or maybe flowers and Disney Dollars, or flowers and a gift cert to a restaurant.
Any more good ideas? This has really helped!

What does a new mom want?

To get outta the house for a bit with dh. I would say a nice bouquet of flowers and a restaurant certif would be great.

herc.

Aside from a restaurant gift cert, I haven't a clue what to recommend..but I'd like to wish you a great time tomorrow at your shower!

I've never received a thank you gift for throwing a shower. Nor have I given any - I've never heard of such a thing. I really think a hug and a heartfelt thank you are enough. Am I alone in this?

I've given hostess gifts, but never when I'm the guest of honor.

Since you can't leave the house to go shopping how about making her a card?
My mom is doing this now and includes pictures in it. Maybe find a pic where you guys are young?
Include a gift certificate and a bouquet of flowers.

Sonya. Get her a gift cert. to a really nice reataurant. And tell her your DH will babysit her new baby so she and husband can have a nice night out.
If your DH bawks at the baby sitting job just tell him he's the best guy in the world to do this for your best friend. A new daddy is a sucker for compliments. [voice of experience here LOL]

philaround, that sounds like blackmail!;)

Well the shower was wonderful, I got so much stuff! (and most of it was actually needed, not just little things to set out in baby Thor's room) He now has enough clothes that DH and I won't need to buy ANYTHING until he turns one. I'm not kidding! My mom went a bit overboard but that's OK, I'm the only child and this is her 1st grandkid. It took us 2 hours last night just to get everything de-tagged and sorted by size. We also are moving in a month so we packed up the things he won't need right away. (now if I could get DH to take these things out of the living room:rolleyes: ) I was very tired after it was all over and probably did more than I should have, but it was so good to see everyone.

As for the hostess gift, I'm having DH go out and get a butterfly bush and a gift cert to a nice restaurant I think they will like. I know she doesn't garden but all the plant needs is some soil and water. And flowers fade so fast.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Hmmm. I was thinking a nice restaurant and just noticed that is what you did!!:)
