I've only had it for 6 months! I have a Canon Powershot A620. It's still works, but on the lens cover one piece is loose and I'm afraid it will fall off and jam up the camera. There also seems to be a little scratch on the lens. The pictures look alright, so I'm hoping they print ok. I'm going to call the camera store today and see if they can fix it or send it in to be fixed. Do you think this will be possible and how much would it cost? I'm so bummed, I'm such a klutz!!
The camera was even in its case. Guess I need a better padded case!

This doesn't help you now but this is why I like to use the lensmate adapter on my A610 and S3, it's more protection for the lens should the camera get dropped (I'm surprised yours broke even being in the case!!). You may find out it's cheaper to buy a new camera rather than paying to get it fixed but good luck, hopefully you can get it fixed without it costing you much.:goodvibes

Even without dropping or damage, that part broke on our A70 and A520. It is just a poor design if you ask me. On the A520, it did not cause any problems and we left it alone. On the A70, it would fall back in front of the lens and affect the shot, so I removed them all. It is not a difficult job, but takes some nerve to do. I used a rubber jar gripper to remove the front of the lens housing. After it is off, you can take everything out. It would be VERY difficult to fix on your own b/c there are many small parts in there. As long as it is kept in a camera bag, it should be fine without the protection of the cover.

If it is not affecting images, I say leave it alone. On the A70 lens housing, there really was no way for a broken part to fall back into the camera and mess anything up. It could only come loose and fall out the front. If you are not seeing the scratch on the computer screen, then you will not on a print. I believe that scratches can be seen the most with a small aperture (larger f/ number) on a picture of the sky. You might test to see if you get it showing up on that.

Good luck!

Kevin

Thanks for your responses. I called the camera store where I bought it and they said it could be repaired and maybe fairly cheaply. It's good to know that I could always just have them take that cover off or just leave it as is also. So maybe it will be ok! I haven't had a chance to check my pics yet, my computer is so old I can't download them on it!
