Sorry, to be dramatic but our trip is in less then a week and with everything that is going on in this world I'm a little scared to not only fly but be at crowded Disney :/ does anyone know if Disney is doing extra security checks?

English is not my first language so I apologize if I'm not using the right terms.

I don't think I said that. What I said is that if a mass shooting occurs on U.S. soil, it is much more likely to be an aggrieved white guy than a foreign terrorist.
I'm curious....Can you show me where you found satitictics to back that up?

If you don't want to go then don't. No amount of research and claims will calm irrational thoughts. Coming from an individual who struggles with it at times regarding other concerns, only you can decide what to do.

Oh okay, thank you for reply.

Ok so I'm going to relay a conversation that happened at work today it will be me then there is person a and b.

Person a: your going where and you're flying!?! :sad1: Aren't you aware of what's going on?!?

Me: WDW! Yes I'm aware but I take the approach g-d forbid something happens I know I lived life to the fullest and was happy till the end

Person a: :worried:

Me: I'm more worried taking my train home that someone is going to steal my computer then I am flying or going to WDW (my train stops in some not great areas, one time a guy tried to buy my computer off me)

Person b: I agree! Live life

Person a::scared1:

So all I can say is yes I worry but you could end up with similar problems on the way to work (I absolutely could I work downtown NYC, I can see the World Trade Center from my office).

So try to not think about it, be diligent and have an amazing trip!

Columbine.......Newtown......Oklahoma City (though to be fair that was explosives and not guns).....Charleston.....just to name a few.
Naming a few is not really telling me much though. Wasn't there a shooting at a playground today with 16 people hurt in New Orleans? Or I guess you forgot the shooting on 4th of July in Chicago...all of these were white aggravated men? Crazy.

You will never see 80% of Disney's security so there's no way to answer that unless you work there and then it's probably confidential information. We were just for 5 days last weekend. We didn't see any more security than usual; security bag check show before the gates doing the normal stuff and a few random uniformed guards around the parks. The rest ( I think the majority) are all under cover.

Count up all the murders committed by foreign terrorists since September 11, 2001 and then count up all the mass shootings since then. It's no contest.

Does anyone know if there will be more security or am I be irrational for asking?

If the concern is rational, you should be afraid that Disney has increased security too much. A large crowd of people waiting at the security line makes the perfect target, and nobody will stop someone with guns and bombs from attacking the security checkpoints. However, if you manage to make it through the checkpoints alive, odds are good you will still be breathing by the end of the day.

It's been said tongue in cheek, but there's a bit of truth to it that terrorists wouldn't use guns on an attack on US soil because Americans are too well armed.

Thank you. I live far away from Disneyland and have only been there once. When the Paris attack happened I saw they closed Disneyland there and was just wondering if they had some new policy on security.

I don't think you are irrational. I am one who gets really paranoid with all the stuff going on every where. I have to just go and try not to think about it all. We are flying too. I do not know about extra security but DL is really good at making sure every one is safe. Take a deep breath and just go and have a good time.

I for one think the first 4-5 posts here were out of the park and some were quiet rude not sure why they were so rude but just ignore them.
Go and have fun. Have a good trip.

Thank you! :) very true.

I highly doubt the Mouse isn't taking this all seriously and hasn't been since 9/11, as most public places have. I also highly doubt they would share security plans with the public, though, either. They already have a lot of security in place, and I take comfort in that.

I agree with others- you can't live your life in fear. Anything can happen at any time. I drop my DD6 off at school every day with a teeny bit of cold fear in my heart for the irrational what ifs. But drop her off I must because she needs to have an education, and I don't want to keep her in a glass cage. I remind myself to take a breath, say a prayer, and put my fears away.

I appreciate this. English is not my first language and I know I don't speak or spell as good as others and probably use the wrong terms for stuff. I've only been one other time time to Disney with my family and I didn't know I couldn't express thoughts or questions here.

Everyone comes from different walks of life and I try to not live my life in fear, but I just have concerns. Maybe it's a combination of excitement and fear that makes feel this way. :)

If terrorism is your fear, I'd say fear not! Terrorists are crazy, but they are at least motivated by some political aims (however irrational they are to us). Bin Laden wanted the removal of US troops from the Middle East. ISIS wants to establish an Islamic state. Terror is the way they hope to accomplish these things, but I'd think targeting Disneyland with such a large number of children would come at such a great cost to them I don't think they'd even think about it.

And as far as the "domestic" mass shootings someone else mentioned, those seem to be limited to schools, usually by a mentally troubled student who has an issue with other students or people they know.

What I'm trying to say is even the most insane of the insane terrorists and murderers have had some kind of "motive" that they used to justify their actions. The Oklahoma City bombing targeting a Federal building would be another example. I just cannot think of a motive of that variety that would lead an individual or a group to purposely target Disneyland.

I can understand your anxiety about flying and being in a crowded tourist area. I have felt similarly over the past 10+ years whenever we have gone on a trip. My grandfather died in a plane crash many many years ago (in the late 1960s when my dad was only 17, long before I was born), so flying has ALWAYS caused panic in my heart.

BUT, we cannot live in fear, especially when we are not in control. I am flying to Vegas next week for a work conference and then my DH and I will be in Anaheim in less than three weeks. And I am doing my best to be EXCITED that I am blessed in this world and am able to travel. Hugs to you, OP!

ETA - I also work in a private college. We had a deadly shooting on campus a year and a half ago. And I also was a sophomore in college when we had a deadly shooting there as well. So, I like to think that I very much have a greater chance of being hurt in my daily routine than flying/being at Disney.
