I'm running the WDW Marathon Jan 2012! Who is with me??

Oh Congratulations!! That IS wonderful!

Someone on another forum posted that they mistakenly signed up for the half in Jan. instead of the Princess in Feb. They emailed or called Disney and got it switched. I do think the Princess would work better for you. There was an episode on WDW Today podcast where they were interviewing a new mom that had just done a half or full. I think she had better time than the guys.

thanks everyone for the congrats. i really appreciate it. ok, more like i NEED it because i'm just still not there yet. still so very shocked/blah/disappointed/i don't know what.

i would totally name my kid mickey if i knew he wouldn't get made fun of for the rest of his life. lol.

i hope my run today goes well. i'm feeling pukey still but maybe the exercise and fresh air will help. it's supposed to be terribly nasty the next few days so i need to get out today!

how is everyone's training going? what races do you have coming up?

i am trying to think about what races i can do after baby. maybe if the new rundisney race is in march 2012 or so that will be enough time to train? or maybe even princess 2012? i have no idea.

i wish i was rich and could have a nanny...

I have a local half marathon called Boomtown June 11. Jeff Galloway will be there. Signed up for his class and got my tickets for pasta party. :thumbsup2

Anyways, I'm listening to an old podcast where he is talking about the long mileage and taper, etc. I'm reworking my training plan a bit to fit in 14 miles 3 weeks before race.

Also trying to figure out where to fit in a run while we're at WDW. We have 1 day off from the parks so I'm trying to fit in 6 miles before breakfast at Boma. (May need to change to the 8:30 time to a 9:00 am time) Now to figure out where to run at AKL.

Training wise: I did 4 miles yesterday and 4 miles the day before that. (Trying to work around stormy days) I'll do some cross-training today (maybe) and then plan to get 7 miles in tomorrow. My usual long days are Friday or Saturday but am having to shift a little for weekend plans.

Hope you feel better, Nancy! What a blessing. I'll try to find that podcast episode for you about the new mom runner.

Will you have a car? If so Boardwalk or other locations loom large for really cool morning runs. AKV unfortunately tends to be circles. I have known folks who run from AKV along Osceola but I think it dangerous. The issue is that Osceola is a major commute road across property and local traffic is trying to get through the intersection of Sherberth and Osceola. The roadway is curbed so there is no shoulder and very little grassy area on top of the curb.

I ran 8 miles at AKL in December. How? I ran from Jambo to Kidani and then up and down every single row of the parking lot--4 times. Boring, but better than the treadmil. And I got some REALLY interesting looks from people. And at least one little kid said "Mommy, what's wrong with that lady?"

:sad2: First time that we're not getting a car. The fact that car rental rates were so high even with codes helped swing us to staying at a Deluxe resort.

hmmmm...that's a thought. I believe that I have to pay to use the treadmill even when staying on points. I'd much rather run outside.

You absolutely should NOT have to pay to use the TM (in either Jambo or Kidani) if you're staying on points. I've used the fitness facilities at every DVC I've ever stayed at and I've never paid. I've also never seen anyone else pay. But maybe there is something I don't know about? I was a DVC kid before I was an owner, so I only have very vague memories of a time before DVC (pre-1993...I know there were a few hot trips at Fort Wilderness!)

I have a couple of DVC questions so I'll go post over there. Thx for the heads up.

I was seriously thinking about running the boomtown 1/2 too! It's a little over 2 hours of driving to get there though, so I haven't been able to convince DH that we should take the trip. Especially since I'm running a 1/2 the weekend before, and he already thinks I run too many races. :rotfl:

Just confirmed that the fitness center is free to those staying on DvC points. May try to get in two runs. :rolleyes1

So, running in place for around an hour or running circles in the parking lot. Like your decision.

maybe you can do one run outside and one run inside? i haven't run on a treadmill in 7 years but i think i may actually run on one if it was in a fancy fitness center like at AKL! lol!

the friday i arrived in WDW for the princess race i did a quick 20 min jog around the all star resorts just to get acclimated to the warm weather down there. i wound up circling the parking lots too!

any races this weekend? amy's got on in DC, right? good luck amy! can't wait to hear about it.

i went out for a run myself yesterday. i only did a 5k and it took me almost 35 min! that pace is the same i had for the half marathon. i can usually do a 5k in about 30-31 min. i felt so SLOW and so TIRED. is this what it's like running while pg? i've googled extensively anything related to running and pregnancy and it seems like as long as i've been doing it for a while it's ok. but man right at the end i felt queasy. i usually do 4 miles for the short run but that last mile just wasn't happening.

i'm trying to figure out my plan for running after baby. the marathon is out so i'll have to move my dvc points too. maybe we can do a vacation around the princess? then again, it's SO busy at that time. then i was thinking about waiting to see what the big announcement is and do whatever that race is. but maybe that's at a busy time too.

wah. who knows.

I'm doing DC too.

You might want to ask your doctor. In the past, when i had discussed the possibility with my doctor (I've never actually been pregnant by I may be a bit of an overplanner) she told me it was fine because I was active but that I should watch my heart rate.

I had a terribly run last night. My whole body was so tight, and then about 2 miles in it started to hurt in places it never hurts. So I cut it short. This morning I wake up achy and sore--I'm hoping it's just allergies. Anyone ever heard of allergies hurting running?

well, sort of! i mean, not exactly but at the beginning of the winter i had terrible congestion and when i ran it seemed to hurt more. like, my face hurt.

good luck in DC! can't wait to hear all about it!!!!

I want to train with you guys too!

I'm new to running and am signed up for my first half in May. Training has gotten derailed with 2 bouts of the flu, and sinus issues, so I'm either dropping out or walking it :-(

We're going to DW for vacation the week after marathon weekend, so I think we could just leave a couple days earlier than planned so I can do it all!

My original goal was to run the goofy this year. I'm going to get back into a regular training routine starting April 1, and maybe I can still hit it?

I'm not officially registering until we book our rooms, which will be sometime this summer. I think I should be safe as registration for both races last year went into the fall, right?

I really want to do this as I want to get my heart and body in shape. I'm not UN-healthy, but I want to do something for me, you know? My last b-day, I turned 30, and a friend told me "30 is the new 20", and I want to make sure my body knows it too!

Looking forward to training with you all!

welcome hops and dreams and runner princess!

I have a room, but I haven't signed up for a race yet either!

I'm so excited... I bought new shoes and I literally can't wait to try them out. Crazy isn't it? They feel like walking on air. Perfect fit for my weird foot and style of run/walk. http://www.brooksrunning.com/Brooks-Glycerin-8-Womens-Running-Shoe/1200681B632.120,default,pd.html

I also bought a waist pack: http://www.nathansports.com/our-products/hydrationnutrition/waist-paks/triangle It's light grey with light pink accents and pink ribbon for breast cancer. I'm not a breast cancer survivor but am a skin cancer survivor. I wear pink most of time training anyways. Pink shirt and hat and now these new items.:thumbsup2
