Hey everyone!!! :wave2:

This is my first ever pre-trip report so please bare (bear?) with me but reading many other TRs and PTRs I just wanted to join in all the fun!! So as you may have gathered I'm going solo *shock, horror, gasp*:scared: (more on that later) but I'm pretty sure I'll be ok having read lots of people's solo trips.

Before we start though let me tell you guys a little bit about myself:

So I'm Vicky, 24 (almost 25 eek!), I work with animals and do part time photography. I am currently working on my Masters (post-grad qualification) in Anthrozoology which I love! I mostly live in London, UK but I try to get out ALOT!

I've been coming to the World since I was a kid:

I was four in this pic with my DB who was 7 at the time and this next pic is from our 2nd trip when I was about 6

I still have that Lady and she currently has pride of place on my printer in my office.

I've always been to Disney with my family (the last time was 2010) and we've stayed both off and on-site including at the resort formally known as Dixie Landings (where I will be staying on this trip) and the DTD area.

So why this trip and why solo???

1) I LOVE Disney ::MickeyMo Literally one of my favourite places in the whole world!

2) My parents are going in November and my brother is there now and I refuse to be the only one who hasn't been recently (yes that is slightly bratty of me but I'm the youngest and that will always be my excuse:thumbsup2)

3) My friends (and I love the lot of them) would only whine about the heat & slow me down! I'm a slightly Type-A commando style disney-doer *hangs head in shame* so I get annoyed by people slowing us down with unscheduled toilet breaks (just kidding.......about the scheduling tb part...not the fact they annoy me park :littleangel:)

4) I travel quite a bit on my own around the world any way so why not Disney?!?

So I started thinking about going to Disney in June when I was looking for a cheeky summer holiday for me and by DBFF:beach: Only problem is that she works in a school and it was just that bit too expensive to go during the summer and she's never been to WDW before and I think staying off-site might not have made for such a magical trip and we would've been reliant on shuttles and so on and so forth....:sad2:

Anyway so my BFF couldn't come and I'm away from October till April 2015 so my trip definitely needed to happen pretty soon as April next year is much too long a time to wait! But when????

So I am not a massive fan of the little people (kids....not small adults). I mean they're great as long as I get to give them back! I have nothing against people who have kids (I eventually want them myself and to introduce them to the magic of the Mouse) but right now the thought of a holiday surrounded by them is not high on my list so anyway that pretty much just left me with September!!

But when in September to go???

Well all the advise says Labor Day weekend is busy so not good and then F&W is a problem for me for a whole different reason.....

So I used to be a skinny minnie (or Snow White) and some stuff went down and I got big. I'm not life-threatening big but I'm borderline health problems are going to start very soon big  But here's a pic so you get an idea.

So that image is from Feb this year (2014) and I put on about another 20lbs since then

BUT I have since had weight-loss surgery and I am currently 6 weeks post-op from having a Gastric Band put in and I have lost 16kgs (so about 36lbs :teacher: yep did that math in my head!) and so I have 9kgs left to go with about 5 weeksish till my trip! :dance3:

How does this affect my Disney trip I hear you ask?

Well initially I pretty worried about being able to fit on all the rides that I want to do but Disney seem pretty generous in their seat proportions :cheer2: unlike some others I could mention *cough* Universal *cough*

The main way it will affect me is obviously food (bet you didn't get that from the title...). So for those who don't know; a gastric band is basically a loop that sits around the top of your stomach opening and makes it smaller which makes your body think it is full from a small amount of food thus making you lose weight. Over time the band loosens so you get less restriction and can eat more so you get a "band fill" where they put fluid into the band to make it tighter. And when I say small amount of food I mean it. Generally all I eat at lunch times is a boiled egg.... that being said I can stretch to a whole fishcake for dinner if I'm really hungry. Also not only are you eating tiny portions but you also have to eat really slowly and chew your food really well so meals generally take ages.

My other problem with the band is that it is pretty difficult to stay hydrated. I mean I drink maybe 3-4 litres of water a day and still wake up every morning gagging for a drink. So I have to drink a TON of water on my trip (which I already knew as it's going to be pretty hot) but the water fills you up and you're not suppose to drink for at least 30 mins before you want to eat which adds to the dehydration (you also can't drink anything fizzy so no root beer for me :sad1:) Although now I'm over 21 I can let the cocktails flow (woo hoo!)

So yeh food is definitely one of the things that I'm most anxious about for the trip so any tips or advice would be great. I'm sooo jealous looking through people's TRs at all the lovely cakes and food they eat that I can look at and take photos of but no longer eat...

HOWEVER!!! I LOVE CHURROS!!!! They are quite possibly my favourite foods and one of the reasons I go to WDW. So I'm going to try one (or two or three) on my trip and see how it goes but just in case can we all take a moment to honour the Churro!

So my food plan atm is to go with one ADR each day because I find it easier to eat things at sit-down restaurants than at counter-service ones and then just snack if I get hungry as there are little things that I can get at my resort to take to the park with me but I will make sure to let people know how I get on for those who are also in my postion

5 WEEKS TODAY:banana: 5 WEEKS TODAY:banana: 5 WEEKS TODAY:banana::banana::banana:

So if you didn't guess I fly out 5 weeks today woop! woop!

So yeh the plan so far is two days at the Dark Side to kick off my trip

 shocking I know!!! But Hi I'm Vicky and I'm a Harry Potter fan:wizard:

Sorry, I know there are some Disney purists out there but Universal really kicked up the competition with Hogsmede and Diagon Alley (mostly thanks to J.K. herself) when it comes to total immersion of the guests in an area. Also my next door neighbour is/was the graphic artist for all the HP films and the theme parks so we also pop in to support her amazing work!

So anyway after 2 days at US I'm heading on over to POR for the rest of my stay. I am currently looking at extending my stay for an extra couple of days because I'm not sure a week is long enough and I'm not sure when I'm going to get back to the World. On the other hand, if I did extend my stay it would only leave me 2 weeks to get ready for being away for various jobs for 7 months....hmmmmm DISNEY DILEMMA!!! (Anyone want to chip in on this one would be great!) And in seeing if I could change my reservation I looked at MDE and then realised I have no idea what I put as my PIN on my account...B****R!!!!! That's going to be a pain! Hopefully I was really sensible and used one of my actual card ones but we shall see!

But I have bought myself the Memory Maker thing so there will be lots (hopefully) of photos of me around the kingdom with many characters including *fingers crossed* Merida, Gaston, Capt Jack, the Princes and Princesses (especially Belle because she is my favourite!) I've also mostly sorted out my fp+ and my ADRs as well.

So yeh my bucket list for this trip is as follows:

1) Meet Merida
2)Meet Belle
3) Meet Capt Jack and the other male characters (what else is a single girl to do )
4)Conquer my fear of the Haunted Mansion. Was so traumatised by my parents taking me on it when I was 4 that I haven't been able to do it since. Actually got in the building in the queue when I was 15 before succumbing to a panic attack and having to leave.... But I am very nearly a "proper adult" (25+) so I should really man up!
5) Look around BOG. Don't mind if I don't get to eat there but the pics look AMAZING!!
6) Get some more pins!

So I have a mild pin obsession...my current collection only numbers 40ish and they aren't all Disney pins. I also have HP, Hard Rock, Manchester United, Olympic 2012 and some other ones. I don't know what it is about pins but I just need them so I really have to curb myself to 1 lanyards worth during the trip

But yeh here is my current collection for your viewing purposes:

So yeh that's my next update for you all. Hope you enjoyed it!

So I took the plunge and extended my trip by 3 days :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I was tempted to change hotel and maybe experience somewhere else but honestly the thought of packing all my stuff up was time away from the parks that I thought better of. So staying at POR for those extra 3 days taking my trip to 10 days....now I just need to break that news to my parents....hmmm....

Anyway on another note, I decided to take the plunge and go for MNSSHP as well. Now in the UK Halloween is not such a big deal my guess being because the weather by the end of October is not usually conducive to lots of people being out on the streets. It's usually very wet and pretty cold but sometimes we do dress up:

So that's me and my god-sister (my Godparent's daughter) who is now 21 and just graduated from Uni! They grow up so fast

Anyhoo so I'm now going to MNSSHP on Sunday 14th which was my original departure date. Now going to something Halloweeny is quite a big deal because if you haven't worked out by now I am a complete scaredy cat when it comes to that sort of thing which is really odd because I love horror films but having the horror in front of me.....not so good with! But I'm pretty sure Mickey will not let anything happen to me so I'll be all good.

Now for a costume....well I originally thought Minnie Mouse...red and white looks good on me (because that's the most important thing....obvs) and I thought I'll just get some ears while I'm there. So I found this dress which I thought would be pretty cool in the September evening:

BUT then I thought...hmmm I'm going to want to be going on rides and that skirt might get in the way and would not be so lady like clambouring in and out of POTC for example so it was back to the drawing board and then I found this on Pinterest (Vicky Godwin - profile pic involves baby goats if you're interested)

So I'm foregoing the leather because I don't want to die in the heat and got some boots with a little heel that I'm more than happy to swap out for flip flops as the evening wears on. Got my beige shirt and shorts so now I need a bag to fit my DSLR in and then think I'll get my whip and hat from the Indiana Jones store at HS and I'm all sorted.

An outfit that will not only be pretty cool (as in not hot although Indiana is pretty cool) but also suitable for climbing in and out of rides without worrying if I'm flashing anyone so it's a win-win in my book!!! pixiedust:

Im in for this! Ive always wanted to stay at POR so Im excited to see how you like it. I've also always wanted to visit Disney in September so I cant wait to see how the crowds are for you :)

Hey Meghan! Thanks for joining me!

Yeh I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside about 15ish years ago (maybe longer) when it was still Dixie Landings and it is probably the most memorable hotel I have from all my Disney trips. You just open the door to your room and get hit by the humidity and heat. LOVE IT!!!

Yeh fingers crossed the crowds aren't too bad. I think that the boy wizard has been pulling quite a bit of the crowd so I'm hopeful that that the ride waits won't be too long. Although I'm a pretty patient person so I don't really blink at having to wait an hour for something. Probably just take a load of photos of the queue and read my kindle lol

I know I probably shouldn't post up at PTR everyday but I'm just so darn excited!!!!:cool1: Also I'm working from home at the moment so I only have my cats to talk to about my upcoming trip so what else is a girl to do :confused3

But there were some developments today!!

Today I sneakily looked up POR for the length of my visit which is 8 nights in total and it was about £300 MORE than what I paid for my original 5 nights plus my extra 3 so I'm rather happy about that! I did have to pay £100 to change my flights but it could've been sooo much worse!!:woohoo:

Also what arrived today was my potential Minnie Mouse dress. Yes I know I said I wasn't going to go as Miss Minnie but I tried the dress on and loved it:

Ok not the best pic in the world (please excuse the unwashed hair) but you get the idea. Still think it might make climbing on and off rides a little precarious but would be nice for my dinner at the House of Blues and Cirque du Soleil evening. The only problem is that I don't have any shoes that go (and that's saying something given the size of my shoe collection) so I will just have to do some shopping.....:dance3:

Also my Indiana boots (yes I know they will be really hot but that's what lockers and a/c rides are for) and shorts arrived today:

I know what you're going to say (omg they have a heel) so yeh they may only be part of the outfit for a very short time but that's ok. I can use them when I get home too!! (Although I am heading to the southern hemisphere in October so it's going to be summer for me for the next year but I'm sure I'll wear them at Christmas 2015....)

Anyway, I am also planning on getting my 2nd tattoo while I'm in Orlando. There is an awesome place on Citywalk at the Dark Side so I will be going over at the beginning of my trip to chat about what I want and then I'll go back I think on one of my last days (after a cheeky morning at WWOHP - just in case I missed anything) to get it done. I've narrowed it down to two options:

An explanation for this one is that I love Africa. I spend a great deal of my time there and have spent a lot of time with some Simba like friends (plus Timon, Pumba and the whole gang - although not Rafiki because he doesn't live in Namibia/South Africa). Anyway working with animals ALOT of people are quite judgey and especially when I spend months away they ask me when I'm going to get a proper job (because working 6/7 days a week for 14 hours a day making sure no animals are hurt by inexperienced volunteers/volunteers don't do something to make an animal hurt them isn't a proper job) Damn my friends for training as professionals - lawyers/drs/teachers - means I'm totally letting the side down! So yeh it's about not giving up the dream despite the pressure and the judging and I would want it on the back of my neck (at the bottom so a shirt or t-shirt would cover it if needs be)

The other option is:

Purely because I love Beauty and the Beast. Always has been my favourite Disney (although Mulan gave it a run for it's money for a while) and it would go on my foot.

So that's my update for today. Sorry it wasn't so Disney orientated but I'll try and do better.

Btw here's me and one of my Simba like buddies back in 2009 (only pic I have where I'm actually in the frame - mostly I'm too busy making sure no one is being pounced on or checking for poisonous stuff to make sure I get in there)

Your costume as Indiana Jones will be awesome!! and I love love love that Minnie dress!!! Can't wait to read more!

Hey! I'm going on my first solo trip sept 7-13!!

Oh cool! Think there are quite a few of us around at that time! Got any plans so far?

Your costume as Indiana Jones will be awesome!! and I love love love that Minnie dress!!! Can't wait to read more!

Aww thanks! Yeh hopefully it will work out. Think I might just decide how I feel on the day as to what I'll wear

Ok, so today's update is about my couple of days over at the Dark Side. If you are Motherland purest....please look away now....

Hey you! I see you peeking! Ok but be quick (we don't want the Mouse to find out)....

So I am starting my trip this year over at US/IOA because as I've said before I am a big HP fan! :yay: And I say big but I'm big in that I can answer a lot of questions about HP and the books/films but couldn't name every single shop on Diagon Alley (it was a pub quiz question and I failed miserably). I'm a big fan in that I have a Gryffindor beanie (see below) but do not own a Wand...although the interactive ones do look pretty sweet....no Vicky No! Ok so no wands for me! I'm a big HP fan and I am still waiting for my owl  But this just means I couldn't wait till the end of my holiday to visit.

My beanie but please forgive me for the cat hair - my two little delights will literally sleep anywhere!

While at US/IOA I'm going to be staying at the Royal Pacific Resort which is a really pretty hotel. You basically walk into the lobby on a bridge over a tropical stream two stories down. We stayed there as a family last time in 2010 for a few days and just loved how convenient it was for getting to the parks.

So a little word about my last trip. Hogsmeade was scheduled to open in January 2010 so the Godwin fam thought "Right lets go in June before all the (UK) schools lets out and hopefully it shouldn't be too busy" Great plan!!! Only Hogsmeade was late opening. By about 6 months. So it opened 6 days before we arrived.....:scared: And all we saw for that first week were the huge crowds in Citywalk waiting 10+ hours just to get in the park. Oh. Dear. God!

But too late to change now! So we went. We had early entry (woo hoo!) and were queuing up in the park from about 7am and had to wait maybe 20 minutes to get into Hogsmeade but it was all pretty civilised and managed to get on really quickly. FJ did break down a couple of times but our first ride we went all the way through without stopping (not so lucky the other 4/5 times we tried) but a lot of the time it wasn't stopping for breakdowns but for people not coping well with not being able to have contact with the other people in the same car (I won't spoil things for people who haven't been yet) but yeh the Dementor bit is pretty scary when you can't hold anyone's hand! So no problems getting on the rides but the shops were INSANE! Now I know J.K. wanted them to be as authentic as possible but the tiny, tiny little shops were/are ridiculous....I mean what was she thinking...that nobody had ever read the books?!? Another problem we had was that ALOT of the merchandise had already sold out after a week, again because they weren't expecting quite so many people...... This pic kind of gives you an idea of how many people there were

The line of people on the right....yep that's for FJ

Basically what I'm saying is that I'm mentally preparing for the worst because from the looks of things DA opening has been even worse! Especially with some people being very inconsiderate *cough* runners *cough* but I'm not sure if this stems from the opening of Cabana Bay or because DA opened slightly more into the summer season than Hogsmeade so there's just more people.

Day 1 - Arrival Day!

Anyhoo, I digress (Sorry!). So I land on a Sunday afternoon (Sept 7th) in theory at about 3.30 but that is weather depending. Providing that my sacrifice to the weather gods is accepted fine and dandy I am hopefully going to be at the RPR by 5.30ish. I've booked a private transfer in the hopes this will speed my arrival up a little, not having to wait for a shuttle. If all goes to plan (including checking in, sorting out my express pass and so on) I aim to be in the parks for a cheeky DA look by 6.30. My idea behind this is that lots of people will either have gone home that day or will have only just arrived and will just want to relax for the evening. *fingers crossed*

That first evening I don't mind if I don't get on Gringotts. I'm happy to wander around taking photos and checking out the shops. Then on to my ADR (to use the Disney lingo) at Hard Rock Cafe. The HRC is a Godwin family tradition. Any city we are in around the world, if there is one, we have to go for one meal of our trip (unless it's only a day trip). The old downtown LA one was my favourite but I do have a soft spot for the one on CityWalk now that has gone. So dinner there and then home for some probably well needed sleep.

Day 2 - IOA

First full day I plan to hit IOA and head to Hogsmeade with my EE. Again hopefully all the people who just arrived will be heading over to DA. I like IOA I do but I was amazed at how few attractions I actually wanted to do there. I've got Hulk, Spiderman, Pop-eye river barges, Dudley do right, Jurassic Park (Not in this order btw because I wouldn't be able to move for being soaked!), Duelling Dragons, FJ, Sinbad and Poseidon's Fury. So that's 9 attractions for a whole day. I mean I will probably go in and out of Hogsmeade and things but I'm not sure if it will fill my day any more as I plan to take full advantage of the Single Rider lines. Guess we will just have to wait and see! Oh yeh I also have lunch booked for Mythos as I'd heard good things about it and it's always been shut when I've been before.

Also on this evening I'll probably go see the tattoo parlour I was talking about in an earlier post and get what I want designed and book an appointment for before I leave. Then I will crawl back to the hotel for an early night and room service I think!

Day 3 - US and Disney!

Now US holds some of the Godwin family favourites! Beetlejuice I have loved since I was a kid and even saw Joey Fatone (of Nsync fame) as Wolfie when he worked there back in the day. Another staple of the Godwin US trip is MiB....alot! I think this was one of the first rides we discovered SR and would often go on it 6/7/8 times in a row trying to outdo each others score. More often than not there would be a couple of us in the same car and once of twice we all got in the same one. I even have my own little Frank to keep me company:

Now quite a lot has changed as US in the last few years. Simpsons had replaced Back to the Future () and while I really did enjoy it I did love BTTF. Another problem I have is that being quite tall I can see over the sides of the car and see the others which slightly ruins the illusion but it's really my own fault for being nosey!

Also Hanna Babara was my favourite ride back in the day! With the Jetsons and Flintstones it was AWESOME!!!! So suffice to say I was not amused when they made it into Jimmy Neutron! But US has redeemed itself with Despicable Me (:yay:MINIONS! MINIONS! MINIONS!:yay:) I love Minions! I have them as my background on my phone, Ipod and Ipad including one of a minion as HP! Just a little excited about that one!

But anyway so I'm really looking forward to US and not just for HP.

My stay at RPR ends on Day 3 so I will have to do a VERY early check out before I head to the park and leave my luggage with them for the day and then I have a cab booked for 8.30pm when I finally head over to Port Orleans Riverside and DISNEY!!!

Thank you Google for this one!

In Other News

Yes I know, the longest update in history but...
  • My holiday plans have now progressed into a folder
  • I have bought a 2nd MNSSHP ticket for the night before I leave to make sure I get to meet everyone I want to
  • I have bought quite a few Disney t-shirts to get me in the spirit while I'm there and they've all started arriving!
  • I have no idea what to do on my extra 3 days. Might just see how the feeling takes me when I wake up in the morning

Hey everyone

Sorry for the delay in my next update but it's been a crazy week here. I've been playing Vet Nurse to my family's oldest cat Bubble who has been really sick. Luckily after 5 trips to the vet he seems to have got the message (although I think he just wanted to flirt with the pretty vet!) and has finally started eating again but only fresh tuna steak (He's very spoilt but he is nearly 17 so I think he's earned it). So that has been taking up a lot of my time as well as having a few photography jobs that I've been fixing up this week.

Ok so on with my Disney trip.

Day 4 - Hollywood Studios

HS is probably my favourite Disney park of all. I don't know if it's just the old school glamour of it or because it has my favourite shows or what but I am very much looking forward to my day here. My plan for all the Disney parks is to pretty much hit RD for the first day I hit each park but not just that, get there earlyish to take lots of photos without disturbing too many people with my big camera. The good thing about HS is that you don't have to stand outside the entrance before RD so I should be able to get some good photo ops before putting my camera away and using my large rucksack to get people out of my way as I bee-line for TSMM:rolleyes1 Just kidding....kinda.....

I'm not really sure what order I'll hit things at HS but I know that I want to do Star Tours (several times), Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, what's left of the Backlot Tour (please say Catastrophe Canyon is still there!), The Muppets, RnRC.....pretty much everything except TOT. :scared1: I've tried it once and never ever need to put myself through that again!

My ADR for HS is lunch at 50's Prime Time. I love having to keep my elbows off the table and all the cute little tv-screens they have. It's a tradition for my family to go there so I had to keep up with that one.

I'm "planning" on staying until Fantasmic that night but I think I may have to wait and see how knackered I am although I may well just keep going round and round on Star Tours until it's time to go and queue up for a good seat for the show

Other than TOT I'm pretty much trying to avoid all the Frozen stuff as well. I did see the film but it just didn't grab me like other Disney films have done so I'm just not bothered about any of the stuff. Not sure how it will affect my day now that it's been extended into September so I will just have to wait and see about that one.

Ohhhh yeh I will also need to remember to buy myself a gun, whip and hat for my Indiana Jones costume for MNSSHP. Might actually have to put a reminder on my phone for that

So I imagine most people reading this will have heard about the expansion of Star Wars Land coming to HS. I think it is about time and I'm really excited to see what they do with it but I'm really sad that they are getting rid of Indiana Jones (although this is not confirmed yet). Indiana Jones is one of those things that I have grown up watching and is a firm family favourite. I don't think I have ever been to Disney and not watched the stunt show at HS so I'm actually really glad I get to see it one last time :sad2: (or maybe twice if I have some free time).

As I mentioned in my previous post my clothes have started to arrived for my trip and it as definitely helped me get in the mood for it.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the programme Supernatural and I have a mild Dean Winchester obsession (:worship::love:) He's just so pretty! But anyway I found this T-shirt and thought that would be fun to see if anyone notices it

This week I also added up how much I had actually spent on the now 10 day holiday and it was just a little, tiny bit more than I had planned :rolleyes1 ooops! Let's just say I shall be going to the grave with the actual amount! I knew Disney was expensive but I think my spending may have got away from me a little bit. But only the plus side the amount did include my spending money for food and souvenirs so the only thing I haven't already paid for is my tattoo.

I also told my parents I was staying the extra 3 days (just casually dropped it into conversation over dinner) and they were less than impressed. Apparently I am "obsessed" or whatever but who care because I'm going to Disney :cool1::cool1::cool1:

just joining in! You're going to love Diagon Alley, it's so so great and 100x better than Hogsmeade in my opinion. and I love your Indiana Jones costume, that's going to be so cute!
Sounds like you have a lot of exciting stuff planned, can't wait to read more ^_^

Both your costumes look great. Maybe you can wear them on different days? I like the idea mentioned by Katt789 here on the DisBoards: wear shorts under your dress, so that you don't have to worry about modesty issues when on rides. Sounds like a winning plan.:thumbsup2

I'm going to follow this! You and I could be twins about the Type A Disney personality, I haaaaate when people slow me down. :D

Aww thanks! I can't wait to get there and see what they've done! Are the shops any bigger than Hogsmeade btw. That was the most irritating thing about it lol

Yeh that was my thinking. Might do Indiana Jones the first time I go and then when I'm a bit less stressed put the dress on for my second MNSSHP. It's not so much my bum hanging out as the dress is nearly to my knees. More worried about the ****s falling out. Although it may well brighten up a few CMs evenings lol

It's soooo irritating isn't it!! Although I'm slightly worried there I'm going to be too Type A and not appreciate that I'm actually at Disney. Must remember to just stop and look around every once in a while

Is there some little shirt you could wear under the dress so that nothing will fall out?

Unfortunately I think that will make it too hot plus it pretty tight so not sure I could actually fit anything else in there lol

yes!! the shops are a lot better than Hogsmeade's imo. I was really bothered by the number of shops that weren't actually shops in Hogsmeade, like they were just the decorated store front...but that's not the case in Diagon lol there's tons of shopping to be done!! :goodvibes
