If thing don't change we will have to cancel our February trip there is no way we can afford $2,000 for 4 of us to fly. Song is sitting at $259.00 down and $299.00 back, while Jet Blue came out today and I was right on it and they came out at $229.00 down and $229.00 back there is no way we can afford this so we might just cancel the trip.

Are you looking at vacation weeks? I've never been able to get decent airfare to Florida anywhere close to vacation time. I have actually had to leave Ma the week before vacation, dd misses school, and we come back on the Monday of vacation week. It's a crazy and expensive time to fly!!

I feel your pain. I was bummed when I saw that JetBlue was like $238 a person one way. Luckily, I booked our flights from MA to MCO on Song a while ago for like $79 each way. I have been waiting for JetBlue to release these rates to book the return flight because I have a credit I want to use on them. Unfortunately, they are much higher than I thought they would be. But....I think I am going to wait a while. I figure I can always do a connection if I have to....hate to with three kids in tow, but they are running about $153 each. Also...I am in Central Mass so I can fly out of Providence, Boston or Hartford. So I think I'll just keep checking the rates and maybe even risk Southwest in the fall when they release their dates.

This past February I didn't book our flights until November and only paid about $260 round trip for each of us. (That's how I got my Jetblue credit....the rates dropped. So...maybe it is just because the gas prices are so high right now.

Don't cancel yet....there is always the good chance that the rates will drop.

Good luck to you.

Traveling during or around school vacation weeks requires you to be flexible to get the best fares. Can you fly out on the 8:30 pm Tuesday Feb 14th flight and return on the 21st or 22nd? If so, you can fly for $79 each way plus taxes on Song. The 15th anytime as a departure date gets you $129 on the outbound with the same returns noted above. When we went to LA/Disneyland last February we left Thursday night before vacation and got very cheap fares compared to Friday/Saturday.

My children's school show movies, etc. for the few days before vacation, so it's not like they miss anything. i wouldn't worry about one or two days of absences in a 180 day school year (just my opinion of course for the teachers in the audience).

Can you fly out of BDL...SOng and SWA fly out of there...as well as others.

February School Vacation is NOTORIOUSLY expensive to fly out of our part of the country (I'm in MA), Unfortunately, the airlines know we are all itching to get out, and there is no need for them to discount like they do in the summer.

It is what it is, and I just actually bit the bullet and bought our tickets home for $229 each for the one way. But I'm almost OK with it, since our flight down was $74 each way.

Good Luck, and I do agree, flexibilty can be the key

shelby ~ are you too far away to fly out of Manchester, NH? They seem to have better prices than that for airfare. Also if you have Delta where you are you may want to go to their website. I just got round trip for February out of Manchester, NH for $649 for the five of us. At $127 per person that is absoultely the best price I have ever gotten. Good luck. Hope you find something decent. :flower:

I'm sure you know this but the flights you are referring to have 2 connections. Just want to let everyone know that before they try to find the rate...may make a difference!

Most of the flights have two connections but not all of them. I have flights with only one connection for that price because I wouldn't want two connectios either! :sunny:

Remember that most of the airlines that have had great fares in the past will be paying more for fuel next year that also might have something to do with the higher prices..

OOOO!!!! "You done good"! LOL That is great! In a couple of years when my "mad mattie" is a bit older I will be able to attempt the connections again but I fear any type of travel with him now! :rotfl: He does well if he wants to but if he is in a "mood".... Mommy is on entertaining duty the whole time! :teeth:

If you keep an eye on travel search engine sites like kayak.com, it'll give you the lowest price for flights from all the nearby airports. And if you choose a flight you want to book, it'll bring you directly to that airlines' website.

I'm currently watching fares for the first week in October from either Providence or Boston. Unfortunatly they've continued to rise, but I"m hoping after summer they'll start to come down at bit. :bitelip:

I'm from Ma too. Have you checked with the prices at southwest? They are usually the cheapest from mass from what i have seen.

Also remember that JetBlue & Song may not be the cheapest. Check out Delta. And if you do multi-city search, you can find some deals routing thru CVG (Cincinnati) or ATL (Atlanta). That's what I did for this weekend's trip. Song would have cost me $80 more per tix, and JetBlue costs $100 more per tix.

And I think there is a bonus-miles deal right now on Delta flying out of Boston. You'll have to register prior to flying though.

Unfortunately Southwest is right around the same price at the moment. The good fares have me leaving late on Sat night and returning VERY early the following Sat morning. We were hoping for leaving Sat morning and coming home the following Sat afternoon/evening. I'll just keep watching I guess... :) Thanks!

Here's a couple of things that may help...

Try http://www.sidestep.com - they search all airlines, discount ones included. I can always find good airfares on them.

Also, now that jetBlue is going to start service to Newark you may find that they will be offering "deals" from other cities as well!

Good luck!

Thanks to this thread, I had to book a Disney trip. I have four children and I don't have flexible dates because I am a teacher, so we always have to travel at the most expensive times. I was hoping to get decent flights on JetBlue for a decent price during President's week and I was also upset with the prices. Well, Tinkam prompted me to check Delta's sight and I did find flights for $131 out of Manchester. We live in Maine so this is perfect. It does stink that we have two connections. I wasn't as lucky to get only one connection, but it sure beats driving 25 hours. Also, we are kind of hoping to get bumped because my father in law tells me this will earn me $400 in vouchers per person. With all the legs we have on the flight, I am hoping this will happen. I am excited to be going to Disney but I have to be crazy to do this with children ages 7,5,5 and 7 mos! Wish me luck! Now if I can only find a mini-van rental at a decent price.

This is totally true for those of us who fly out of Syracuse, well Song isn't available, but JetBlue is almost always one of the highest priced flights. We tend to do well with United and Delta. We usually book our Feb flights late, like December when I decide I've had enough of winter, and if I leave on Monday (President's Day) it is much cheaper than trying to leave on Sat. or Sun. before. Also if we come home on Friday is is half as much as coming home on Sat. or Sun. I know it's only five days, but the price is so much lower, and it's usually just a quick getaway for us. I can usually book us for about $240/person.
