Well, Dwife gave birth a week early this past Wednesday, 3/15/06 at 7:21 pm.
Her name is Sophia Shannon and she was 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 18 inches long.
Here's the story, it's borderline not believable for a first baby. (From what I'm told). On Wednesday, I had a regional accounting meeting in a town that is about 40 minutes away. I was calling periodically through the day checking up on her. She said she was having some cramping pains and some contractions which, at the time, she thought were of the braxton/hicks variety, not real labor. She said she was tired, and was relaxing, dealing with the cramping. So I get home at 3:45 pm, and wife is laying on a bed we have in one of the spare bedrooms. I say hello, she how she's doing and go to the bedroom to change my clothes.....at 4:00 pm, her water breaks while laying on the bed. Apparently it scared the crap out of her and she starts balling. Once she is calmed a little, she calls the Doctor's office and tells them...asks if she can take a shower and they said, yes, then go to the hospital. Well she gets in the shower and almost can't finish and dress herself as the contractions are about 1 minute apart. Once the water broke, everything really started to go quickly. The contractions were so painful at this point that she almost couldn't dress or walk to the car. We do finally make it to the car and get on our way. The hosital is only 5 minutes away. We get to the hospital and wife is now in screaming pain, telling everyone who will listen that she wants pain meds, NOW. The nurse tells her she has to be checked in, examined and the Dr. has to get their to administer the meds. At this point it's about 5:00pm and the nurse does her first examination and she already is 8cm dialated! All of a sudden EVERYONE started to move a little faster. The anesthesiologist came and had difficulty administering the meds. This is where I got REALLY queeeeeezy. I don't love needles.... the nurses sit me in a chair and gave me smelling salts. I gather myself after 2 minutes and proceed. Wife finally gets the meds and calms down. BUT, they were supposed to last 3-4 hours and started wearing off after an hour....Dwife was NOT happy to say the least. But it was too late to re-administer because they got her pushing.....and after A LOT of pain, and A LOT of SCREAAAAAMMMMMIIIIIINNNNNGGGG by Dwife....
at 7:21 pm, about 2 and a half hours after we got there, Sophia Shannon was born. She was 6 pounds, 14 ounces and 18 inches long. We just got home a couple hours ago. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE.....I could not be more proud of Dwife, and could not be more happy with Ddaughter. She's perfectly healthy and quite a handful already.
