I'm Not As Tink As You Kronk I Am - Final Thoughts on Mustard's January Trip to WDW

It rained last Friday while we were at Disneyland. It poured. Just the walk from the tram to the entrance...we got soaked. We bought ponchos but we put them over our soaking clothes. I'm packing ponchos (and maybe my new rain boots) for our WDW trip. I hated being so wet at the parks...that I may even buy these rain suits from Bass Pro Shop. They are only $15 total for the jacket and pants. So I figure if I bring all the rain gear...it definitely won't rain at all on our trip...haha.

I love your pics! My daughter had a bad haircut when she was about 2 courtesy of her big brother. I thought I was going to have to get it cut into a mullet just to make it look half decent. Luckily, the hairstylist I went to was great and gave her a really cute, but short, haircut.

I like your DD's taste in rides. ToT is my fave, too!

Geekdom...:rotfl2:

I found out that rainy days are the best days to go to the parks...they're the least crowded!

That sounds very familiar :D Our last day my BiL and one of my nieces were at the very top of Grizzly River Run and DD5 and I were just starting Mulholland Madness when the sky opened up on us. I had to put my poncho over DD and caught the full splat of it as we rolled through the ride. Meanwhile BiL and niece's "raft" stopped at the top of the mountain. They were trapped up there totally exposed for about ten minutes. He said you couldn't see 5 feet in front of your face!

When we got off we met up with other family members met at the rotunda and had to wade through areas of 6-8" inches of water as all the drains started to back up. It was a heckofa end to the day - lol

We had good rain gear from G.I. Joes which will still work and DD11's old gear fits DD8, so we just need to pick up new gear for DD11. I think it is worth bringing along and can save a bad day. If we can stay in the parks and they keep the rides open we can ride and ride and ride

Hehehe, I think it is a misadventure most kids go through - at least neither yours or mine got ahold of electric trimmers!

Yes, ToT is pretty cool, but I can't keep up with her on it :scared1:

I be a geek and have the action figures and electronic gadgetry to prove it!

I'm totall fine with going when its wet if it means no/low lines :cool1:

  JUST CROSSED THE ONE MONTH MARK!!!

The planning continues. I purchased our park tickets yesterday - they'll mail out on Monday :woohoo: I also put up our countdown calendar yesterday:

countdown.jpg

The girls have each gotten to take a LGMH off already - yay! If you look close I did special ones for Christmas and New Years ...hehehe.

I'm still trying to get a firm yes or no from my sister & my nephew and his fiance as to whether they will be staying for DDad's birthday party. Originailly they weren't so I only made reservations for 7 at Fulton's Crab House. Now they will be there but haven't confirmed that they'll be going to the dinner. I know people have had a LOT of problems changing reservations, especially this late in the game  I hope to get ahold of them tomorrow.

All part of life's grand adventure I guess ;)

I hear you on the ADR game. We're mid stream changing our ADRs. We'll probably lose out on CA Grill if we change our ressies....but can eat at Narcoosee's which we have never tried......

Okay, Sharky is here.

I had to after your shameless plug or two on DDAD thread:lmao:

Off to catch up:thumbsup2

We just had the ponchos and they really didn't help that much (especially since we were already soaked when we had them on. My feet/shoes/socks were wet. And my jeans were drenched...I don't think the fully dried at all the whole day. We were in line behind people wearing waterproof pants and jackets over there clothes and I was so jealous. I think I'll buy them...even if I never wear them...I'll be glad to have them...just in case. I don't think January is super rainy for Florida...but you never know!

I'm sure it will work out for you - I've heard good things about both places :) I just want to have the number for that one dinner settled so i can at least make some calls on it.

Well I learned from Tat ...she said 'ya gotta pimp yourself' :lmao:

Thank you for stopping by

Yeah, the poncho thing just doesn't work for anything other than a drizzle. We didn't pack extra shoes so for the second n third day of our trip we weren't able to get our shoes dry overnight and just ended up putting on socks followed by plastic bags, then our wet shoes! Live and learn :thumbsup2

Did you make that countdown calendar yourself? I'll have to recruit you to make mine from now on! I'm just not that crafty.

Good luck on those ADRs. But I changed mine while I was on vacation in September. Had some trouble then because of the free dining. Last January, I had no trouble at all changing them.:thumbsup2 (Just don't try for LeCellier or CA Grill.)

Ok followed you over from my own report. :lmao: your itinerary looks great. Too bad u leave the day we arrive, I hope to see a lot of disers but probably won't.
Sorry to hear your dd was so sick but glad to hear she is better.
This is my first trip to WDW in January and just hoping the weather and crowds are nice. I went in July this year and the crowds were ok but the humidity was terrible.
Looking forward to hearing all about the lead up and the trip itself.

Been there, done that, bought the tshirt.
I actually DID go buy the jacket and pants. Tried them on and they'll be quite comfortable if it rains in January. They might smother you in hot weather though. At least I'll be prepared and enjoy the parks. I don't mind the rain, but I do mind being wet.

Mustard, great pre-trip so far! I'm in limbo on my own pre-trip for January. I'm in serious waiting mode, although I did get all my paperwork so I'm set!

Love the DL photos!

Hey Mike,

Tought I would ck it out...

Sounds fun so far...& all that family going what aTrip You have planned ...Looking fwd to more!!!

Disneydad....

:thumbsup2

Wow...Sounds like you had a couple of tough months with your DD...I am so glad she is feeling better.

That was insane they told you to brirng her in when she was that sick. If she was under he dr care and they did not want her there, then a note should have been sufficient. I am glad her principal came thru and got everything straightened out..:goodvibes

Your itenary looks great. That is a lot of rope droppings you all are doing. I take it you all are morning people....I don't think I will ever see a rope dropping..We are family of Night Owls and don't do mornings:rotfl2:

Is there a secret entrance to AK thru Rain Forest Cafe? Do tell.

Your Shamu dinner looks so cool.

Okay, back to reading.

I believe I saw Tat here,,,So High Tat:yay:

I love your pics for Disneyland and CA...I have never been there yet and are tring to get there in 2010, when DS is a bit older, as that is a long flight for a little one...

I am going to have to do a lot of research as I no zilch about DL.....Like where to stay:confused3

I love your countdown calendar. Is that pic of the guy in the car supposed to be you? I love it:rotfl2:

I like the Mickey and Minnie Christmas pic in the bottom right hand corner, that is the avata one of my good DIser friend's has....:thumbsup2

Okay, one more page:cool1:

I saw DDAD here, too...So Hi DDAD:yay:

Well I don't generally call myself a 'crafty' person ...unless we're talking about a definition that leans more towards "sly" and less towards thing involving glue, scissors, and fabric :D But yes, I did make the calendar. It was mostly photoshop - I already had the LGMH template and just substituted numbers for the names and set them up to print out 6 per page. I just printed 'em and cut them out with a paper cutter and put them on a piece of red construction paper that I stuck ot foam backing ...both of which I found at ye ole dollar tree. I also printed out the four character pics for the corners and cut them out. The whole thing is put together with double-sided tape because I am absolutely horrible with glue :D

I'm hopeful about the ADRs ...the reservation in question is at Fulton's Crab house so hopefully between it being at DTD and in January they'll be able to cut me some slack.

Ok followed you over from my own report. :lmao: your itinerary looks great. Too bad u leave the day we arrive, I hope to see a lot of disers but probably won't.

Welcome aboard Scott!

Thanks for the compliment on the itenerary, like everyone's it's a work in progress ;) Yeah, too bad about the timeframe, but there are a lot of DISers there at the same time as you. As a matter of fact I just looked back at the January 2008 thread and you'll be arriving at the same time as a good dozen other DISers! Anne's Family ROCKS for keeping up with that list :cool1:

Yeah, I can't stand the summer levels of humidity - my fam lives in central Georgia and I have nightmares of suffering through the July/August heat n humidity. I'll try and keep you posted as we progress through our little adventure :thumbsup2

Yes, when we were at DL it rained off and on and we had to take them off and on because as soon as the sun came out you started to cook in those things. But I'd rather deal with the hastle of doing that than being a drowned rat any day - lol.

Thankyee m'dear, I'm trying to make it interesting :) Yes, once you have so much of it planned a sort of limbo is inevitable. Things will start moving forward soon enough though - glad your paperwork is all together. I'll be happy when I have all of mine in hand

TY for the compliment on the DL photos, I need to go back through them at some point and find some more gems :-]

Howdy big guy! Thanks for stopping by :D

The whole family has put the planning on my shoulders so I hope it turns out good. If it doesn't they'll be looking at me and I'll be runnin' for cover - lol

It was quite a trial but she's over it now and back in the swing of things :) And yes, the whole school thing was a mess that I'm happy to put behind us.

Your itenary looks great. That is a lot of rope droppings you all are doing. I take it you all are morning people....I don't think I will ever see a rope dropping..We are family of Night Owls and don't do mornings:rotfl2:

Okay, back to reading.

I believe I saw Tat here,,,So High Tat:yay:

You are not the first to remark on the rope drops ...hehehe. We're about half and half morning people and night owls. I put it in as a "hopeful" gameplan. I'm sure reality will kick in soon enough and I'm certainly willing to go with group consensus ;)

DD8 wants to be a vet or animal trainer and would LOVE to work with Shamu - she's the main reason for that dinner :)

I love your pics for Disneyland and CA...I have never been there yet and are tring to get there in 2010, when DS is a bit older, as that is a long flight for a little one...

Okay, one more page:cool1:

We've taken those flights with babies and toddlers and it isn't much fun. Smart move waiting until DS is a bit older. DL isn't quite as hard to plan for since you aren't so tied to Disney property. We just stayed at the Best Western Park Place, literally across the street from DL. You still need to stay in a DL resort to get the dining packages though.

Tks about the calendar ...and the guy in the car is Mr. Incredible in his 'secret identity'. And yes, he was the graphic I picked ;) The Mickey/Minnie is the one DW picked :D

I taught Tat everything I know.......:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now why doesn't that suprise me? :lmao:

Well today we went out to The Bear Hotel, a warehouse/artist workshop/meeting place for a community-based group that is into promoting art and history in our city. It happens to be located right next to DW's work, so DD's and I have been lucky enough to have a couple of private tours by the place's main benefactor.

I took my camera and took a bunch of pics before I realized I had forgotten to put my memory card back in after dl'ing some pictures the other day. I put in my other card and did get a few pics :D

Here's DD8 with Santa and Mrs. Claus

And here's DD11 just after 'fishing for candycanes'

This is one of the displays - christmas animals at a feast

And lastly a funky monkey and the big bear who they say arranged the festivities

After that we had a fantastic meal at Elmers Pancake and Steakhouse - soooo goooood!!!:thumbsup2
