I'm Not As Tink As You Kronk I Am - Final Thoughts on Mustard's January Trip to WDW

I'm all caught up now.

That stinks about the weather on your way out. But glad it looks like you're enjoying yourselves now! have fun!!!

Yoohoo!!

Where are you colonel?

I believe you got home 2 days ago

Are you hiding in the study?

:rotfl2:

Well it has taken us a couple of days to get settled in, but we are back and I'm happy to say the return trip was uneventful and we were all able to catch up on some sleep ;)

I'm going through folders full of photos and have picked up the film from our underwater cameras used at Typhoon Lagoon and Discovery Cove. I spent a chunk of yesterday typing out the main events of our last few days (I had tried to write it out every 3 or 4 days durning the trip so I wouldn't forget stuff).

Tomorrow I hope to get Day 2 posted, but it'll depend on how wrapped up I get with the pictures. Thanks for checking in all!

Fabulous so far. Lots of DISers have been wanting to know more about that show. It looks wonderful.

Whenever we get stuck on the road, we always look for a cheap place with an indoor pool. Makes the delay much more palatable!

Kudos on getting the T&C. We own one and love it!

Yes, the show was worth going to, just don't go there for the food ;-] And living in the northwest, indoor pools are a must! The Town and Country was great. It handled well, got decent gas mileage, was comfortable, and I loved the extra cargo space behind the rear seat.

Yeah! An update from Mustard while on vaction! Way to go Mike - thinking of us while you are away! :lmao:

Great photos of the pirate dinner! My kids would love that!

Love the acro stuff. Watching them on the tissue freaks me out everytime though when they just drop! I see a lyra ring there too.

Keep the updates coming! :thumbsup2

Yup! I managed to crank out one anyways  Then I got buried by the pace of the vacation. Thanks about the pics, it took some going through to find some good ones to post.

Yes, there were a couple of very talented acrobats, they really took the show to a "higher" level ;) I'll see about getting a real update out very soon.

All right you made it to the world, I was worried there for a little bit...

that pirate show looks like alot of fun.

you got some really good shots and some nice ones at the end.

Can not wait till more, have a great time on the rest of your trip

Yup, made it in one piece. Sorry I couldn't do more updates, but I have a LOT of material to put into the rest of them. And the rest of the trip was fantastic, if a bit tiring and wrought with the standard perils of vacations (getting lost, sick kids, tired family members).

what a surprise to get an update from u while u r there. that dinner sounds like so much fun.
Glad u were able to get out and get there.

I live to keep everybody guessing - lol. It was very fun and we were very relieved to be able to get a flight out and make it there :cool1:

Wow, are you gonna do your TR from WDW? I can't imagine having enough time to do that!

The pirate dinner looks like fun! I'll have to try that at least once.:goodvibes

No, I managed that one little bit, but that's all I could manage. Time does become a precious commodity there, doesn't it? Yes, I'd say give it a chance as a nice diversion.

Wow.Live update from WDW!!!! You da Man Colonel:cool1:

Awesome pics.. You have mad photography skills with no flash photography allowed and still able to get such great shots:thumbsup2

Lot of great pics with the cast.!!!!

How cool that they even brought out some ice for your dad's dog:goodvibes

Can't wait to read about tomorrow's adventures!!!

Have a great time!!!:goodvibes

Hehe, I do what I can ;) I had lots of practice shooting gymnastics pics of my daughters ...lots of action and no flash allowed. And the cast pics were just the tip of the iceberg for DD11 - she proved to be quite the picture/autograph hound on the trip :lmao:

Yes, it was very nice that they brought out the ice for Precious ...she loved the stuff. I'll see about getting day 2 up soon - gotta go back through those pics :surfweb:

great first day Mustard!!!!

Have never been to the Pirates adventure....will have to go next time!!!!

hope you are having fun!!!

& a 100lb rotewiler???

wow

:thumbsup2

I think it is something you should go to at least once, just to see the spectacle of it - just like those midevil times dinners.

It was much fun ...and yes, she is a big girl but very loyal to the family. She let the girls climb all over her :D

I'm glad you made it safely.

pirate: pirate:

Can't believe you posted a live report....wow.

Thank you!

LOL, I take it doing that is a bit of an oddity. And looking back on the days that followed I can see why - lots of activity and very little down time.

That dinner looks fun. My kids (and I!!!) would love that! Thanks for giving us a live update!!!!!! Glad ya'll made it despite the weather. Sooooo what is the weather in Fl??

It was fun - give it a try next time. You're very welcome - glad to! Yes, fog is the bane of our flying existence up here. The first week there was very nice with temps in the high 70s and almost no rain. The weekend brought a storm with warm weather but a couple of downpours.

The following week was a bit cooler but no more precipitation until Thursday afternoon. All in all I can't complain about the weather we got - it didn't mess up anything we wanted to do other than making me switch a couple of events.

I'm playing catch up. I'm only on page 10 or 11 so far.

Yay for Guitar Hero! We played it at my sisters house a couple weeks ago. then we just HAD to buy it for ourselves too. We are addicted. I am terrible but it's fun. I mostly play "hit me with your best shot" over and over. Haha.

You posted a picture of your tickets. We haven't gotten any tickets in the mail. Should I be worried?? We leave in 10 days.

Hehe, yes - both Guitar Hero and Rock Band are not the gaming staples of the household. I haven't picked it up since we've been back, but I know once things settle a bit more I'll be picking up ye ole plastic guitar again :woohoo:

I'm all caught up now.

That stinks about the weather on your way out. But glad it looks like you're enjoying yourselves now! have fun!!!

Yay for being caught up! Yes, we got in the groove and had a great time!

Can you believe they're still there?

LOL, it was a long couple of weeks, that's for sure!

Oh Colonel, are you home yet????

Home now and re-acclimatizing to the cold northwest and the pacific time zone :thumbsup2

Talk to y'all tomorrow :cloud9:

Yup, back in the saddle again - yeeehaaawwww :yay:

I've got the first day's worth of pics sorted ....there's 50 of them so it'll have to be a two-parter. I'm working on the first part now - wheeee!

Darn those candlesticks! I need to get some night vision or something :lmao:

The stuff that's coming? Oh, all kinds of stuff. DW and the other ladies did some MAJOR shopping both on property and at the discount outlets. All I have in there is a mug and a couple of T-Shirts ;) But I'm sure there are some nice little treasures in there.

glad you made it back okay, dont go to fast in writing hte report, i can not keep up.
:surfweb:

Well I realized that I hadn't done the obligatory pics of our humble digs. We had dumped off our bags and headed straight out to the Pirates thing, so I never got any pics of the place before we "moved in" and I didn't get any pics of the mini-suite that my parents stayed in at all. So I made up a collage of shots I took and ones they had on the Grand Beach site.

The place had a mini-suite consisting of a bedroom, living room/kitchenette, and a bathroom with a spa tub (where my parents and their rottweiler stayed). And that was attached to the main suite which had a full kitchen and living room, a bedroom with two twin beds where my MiL and DD11 slept, and the big master suite which had a california king, a 2-person spa tub, separate shower and sink/bathroom - that's where DW and I crashed.
For the 2 days my sis was here she just crashed on the couch. Anyways, here's the pic:
GrandBeach.jpg

And you may have noticed in my inventory of people and sleeping arrangements that DD8 is MIA ...well that's because she didn't want to sleep by herself on the fold-out or sofa. Sooo, this was our compromise - hehehe
Dis08_028.jpg

Each night we pulled the cushions off the couch and put them in the tub, tucked a fitted sheet over them, added another sheet and blanket, a pillow, a platoon of stuffed animals, and of course Bean. And no, DW and I never got to actually use the tub :P

Anyways - back to the grand adventure! Day 2 dawned with clear blue skies and an expected high of 80 degrees. We got everybody moving and fed and decked out in our tie dyed Dis shirts and out the door by about 8:30am. We found out that our GPS could lead us to WDW, but had a tendancy to get a bit confused once on the grounds. We realized early on to trust the signs once we were 'on property'. Here we have our first sight to let us know the dream was coming true...
Dis08_032.jpg

...followed a couple of miles later by
Dis08_033.jpg

We had the AAA Diamond pass, but MiL's handicapped plackard put us right next to the entrance to the TTC. DW snapped this pic of our happy band on the way in:
Dis08_034.jpg

We rode the monorail with the girls pointing and doing a good amount of bouncing in their seats. And then I snapped a shot of DW with the fam in front of the Mickey Pirate topiary:
Dis08_035.jpg

We just missed rope drop (a theme that continued through most of our days at the World) but were there as the queues were forming for the characters. Right on the other side of the tunnel was Mary Poppins and Bert:
Dis08_036.jpg

Pinochio
Dis08_037.jpg

Pluto
Dis08_038.jpg

and Chip and Dale
Dis08_039.jpg

We then headed up Main Street to the Castle just as the show was starting
Dis08_040.jpg

Dis08_041.jpg

-
Dis08_042.jpg

After it ended we moved on to Tomorrowland and Stitch
Dis08_043.jpg

Followed by Space Mountain and lunch at Cosmic Ray's - we ate early so it was still pretty empty
Dis08_044.jpg

My mom and DW's mom both braved Space Mountain and decided that it was going to be their last "big ride". Oddly enough SM fixed a spinal alignment problem that MiL had been dealing with. Who needs a chiropractor when you have Disney - lol

After refueling we headed around to Fantasyland and ran into Alice and the Mad Hatter:
Dis08_045.jpg

We lucked out with that one and were the last ones to see them before they went back to Wonderland :D From there it was around the bend and Snow White's Scary Adventure:
Dis08_046.jpg

-
Dis08_047.jpg

When we came out we saw Mickey's PhilharMagic was getting ready to start. Now I have heard a lot of conversation about this one and had been looking forward to it. Coming out if it I have to say this it was an instant favorite for me ...but I think it should have been called Donald's PhilharMagic, right Dan? ;-]
Dis08_048.jpg

A quick restroom break and we were off to IASW (Mom's fav)
Dis08_049.jpg

Followed by Peter Pan's Flight, a fav of mine from WAY back when
Dis08_050.jpg

From there we headed down the hill and made it to Haunted Mansion
Dis08_051.jpg

Dis08_052.jpg

This is one the DDs had really been been looking forward to since it was closed when we were at DL in '05. It was very cool to be back in that one ...last time for me was when I was all of 7 years old. DD8 was next to me and the circle room freaked her out just like it did to me when I was her age.

She started to panic when we got on the conveyor belt and DW was worried about her and said she didn't have to go. But I go her on the car and had my arm around her and promised her that it would be fine and that she wouldn't see anything that she didn't see in the Haunted Mansion movie. Once we got going she calmed down and had fun and was happy she went through it :-]

We headed down through Liberty Square towards Frontierland, stopping to grab some ice cream and then found ourselves in the stocks!
Dis08_053.jpg

We were eventually released on our own recognisance and hit the Country Bear Jamboree!
Dis08_054.jpg

After the show it was getting close to parade time. Splash Mountain was closed but Big Thunder Mountain was beckoning. Would we hold out for the parade or give in to the pressure to catch a ride while the crowds are elsewhere? Would a bathroom break foil all our plans? How would we spend the rest of the afternoon and what special happening was coming up in the evening???

Tune in next time to see!!!

That resort you stayed at looks great and the rooms look very nice.

How far were you from WDW?

I am on board. I am only on page three so I have a lot of catching up to it. I cannot wait to start reading!! :thumbsup2

I am so easily amused, s orry:rotfl2:

Your pics of your place looked Great!!

Too funny about your dd sleeping in the tub:rotfl2:

Sounds like you got there at the perfect time.

You got awesome character shots and got on a ton of rides...

WTG DD for braving it oh HM...:goodvibes

Cant wait to read what happens next:cool1:

Welcome back!

OMG, I can't believe your daughter slept in the tub! That's too funny!

Wow, you really did a lot. Did you miss anything?:rotfl:

How far were you from WDW?

It was a good place, and we were on the 5th (top) floor and had a great view of the Wishes fireworks from the balcony. It was just over a mile from DTD (just on the other side of I-4). 2 Miles from EPCOT, 4 miles from DHS, 5 miles from MK, and 6 from AK.

Hiya! Thanks for joining in on the fun :cool1: Take your time and I look forward to hearing what you think :)

You hadn't noticed my incredibly clever title before??? :lmao: Ah well, I guess my genius is more subtle than I first imagined :upsidedow

It was a nice place and Bean really liked the tub bed ...hehehe.

The character shots were very key for DD11, my Pumpkin Girl. She got more driven to get them as each day went by. Bean (DD8) just wanted to ride rides ;) I'll take your word as far as the amount of rides we hit ...after this trip I am a confirmed "off season" Diser and cannot fathom waiting more than 20 minutes to ride a ride :thumbsup2 It was the same way at DL in 2005, which was also an early January trip. Wait till you hear how many times Bean and I rode Rock n Roller Coaster and ToT ;) :dance3:

Yes, she was a trooper and overcame her fears when it came to HM - I was very proud of her.

I'll get another update done sometime this weekend :thumbsup2

Welcome back!

Yeah, that's my girl. She was cosy and happy, which worked for us.

I tried to set up the day to do/see as much as possible and stay ahead of the crowds - it worked out pretty well. And we still have more fun to go before we call it a day :)
