I have been around these boards for a while but never came over to WISH I cant believe you are here !! I had no idea this was a weight loose support group. what does WISH stand for ?

I would like to know how many of you have lost weight with walking on a treadmill and just watching what you were eating VS a full blown diet ? I am trying to walk everyday at least 2 miles.

Hi Beth & welcome - I am so glad I found this board to, it is a great support group!! WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy!

There are people following many different set programs (Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach & more) on this board as well as plenty who are 'eating sensibly' & incorporating excercise. There are some who are not 'dieting' at all but are sharing their exercise plans too! You will see some people have exercise clippies on there posts showing how many days, weeks etc they have followed their exercise plans - So, what ever you are doing to get & stay healthy you will find plenty of support here!

Wecome...I'm a newbie to WISH too. I didn't know what WISH stood for either...thanks for asking!

I am doing Atkins and my "Firm" tapes right now. "The Firm" is a combination of aerobics and weight training. My theory right now is to build a better body by losing fat (Atkins) and bulding muscle (The Firm). I've just got too much weight to lose to exercise alone.

That being said, I also have a treadmill and have lost some weight in the past by walking. My goal was 3 miles, 5 days a week and it seemed to work. I just didn't stick with it. I'm hoping that after a while I will work in a walking routine in addition to my "Firm" tapes.

Welcome to WISH! I am new too, sort of. I originally registered to be part of this forum back in February when I started using the FIRM videos. They are great but I wasn't ready for a lifestyle change and gained weight because of how poorly I was eating. But the FIRM videos did help because even though I gained about 5 pounds, I could actually fit into a smaller size. Anyway, I decided I needed a diet change and exercise together and I started South Beach this past Monday. I combine my new eating plan with 30 minutes each day on my exercise bike and do about 7 miles in 30 minutes, burning about 300 calories.

I had my first official weigh in this morning and was just thrilled to have lost 11.5 pounds. Everyone here has been supportive and encouraging so jump right in. It doesn't matter what healthy eating habits you are adopting, we all are here for each other.
 
I wanted to say welcome to you as well. I find this to be the best board to offer encouragement and inspiration. I'm glad that you decided to join us.

You've already discovered the true secret ... combine that healthy eating with exercise and you'll watch those pounds melt away ! I think of myself as in the "eating sensibly" category, although I do try to count WW points, even though I've never been to WW. The best thing that helps keep me on track, that is when I actually AM on track (not these days, unfortunately), is to journal what I eat. As well, drink lots of water !!! I read here to take your current body weight, divide by two, and that's how many ounces of water you should be drinking daily. I find when I'm not drinking my water, my weight loss comes to a complete halt.
