I'm in Love and in Need of Suggestions!

In medieval times, there were the traditional fools, you know dress in multicolored outfits with the crazy hats. You could possibly propose dressed as a fool after of course putting on a small fun little triage or act for her and end with the proposal. You know make a big fuss that the package you give us might have something pop out. I could contact her ring or a bear dress also like a fool holding the ring:rotfl2:

Just a few thoughts. I mean think about how funny that could be down the road as a memory. Of course have a few of her friends in on this. Get their thoughts this was they can play along with you.

Hmmmm...this could be fun. I'm kind of thinking out loud here... On Familyfun.com they have "April Fools Food." For instance you can make a loaf out of cocoa pebbles cereal and marshmallow, then slice it and it looks like meat loaf. With it they serve ice cream, that looks like mashed potatoes. I'm I making any sense?? Your DGF would sit down to a dinner and find out its all dessert... Then you could have a big April Fools laugh and then maybe give her an obviously FAKE gum-ball machine type diamond ring...then before she gets too mad give her the real one, with a real proposal.

Not sure if that's the kind of thing you are looking for...but it could be fun.

definite cut and paste, no way he has the patience to type all of that:rotfl2:

OP, good luck to you:)

Well, no matter who you are, congrats!

Now, my first guess was Josh had finally found his princess.

Now, lets see, ideas for proposing. Do you want private or public?

Thats a good question....could go either way...although we both tend to be pretty private people. I guess nothing thats going to embarass her...but i figure it would be better to be out somewhere than at home. Make sense?

And yes...I've found my princess!
Cheers!

Well, your love of Disney can play in, even if you are not there. Maybe take her out for dinner and have them bring the ring in a glass slipper?

VampHeartless is already married.

Yes he is. I edited his wedding photos. (gorgeous pictures, btw)

Congratulations, OP. :)

As for my idea, a friend of mine did this for his girlfriend.

He woke up early one morning, and slid the ring on her finger and held her hand so she couldn't see it. He wakes her up and starts talking like he's going to break up with her. Saying things like "This has been wonderful" and "we can't keep doing this", finally he says "we can't keep doing this, but theres something else we could do, then he pulls his hand off hers and she sees the ring.

I thought it was cute.

I've just never been a real big fan of the faux break up type thing....just not my style. I guess I'm more of a hopeless romantic....so that glass slipper thing really sounds neat.

So yeah...keep those ideas a coming!

Cheers,
Josh

I've got to tell you, if my DD's BF tried the breakup thing, she would be so mad at him for getting her upset, she probably wouldn't be answering with a yes. :rotfl:

I don't know if this helps, but I typed ways to propose marriage into google and came up with lots of links.

You could take her on the Jungle Cruise ride and when it gets to the part where that one hippo opens his mouth real wide, there could be a sign in there that says xxxx marry me.:)

Josh,
Welcome back and congratulations. Have always thought that you would find YOUR princess!!!

Aww, well thanks Cindy! I most certainly did..and like many suggested, it was when I wasn't looking at all! Funny huh?

Shes the best friend I've ever had and easily the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Any of you have proposal stories to share? Any other NOT AT DISNEY suggestions?

Cheers,
josh

So we're coming down to the wire here...the big day is Sunday....still searching for ideas and stories...anybody?

Cheers,
Josh

I KNEW it was Josh! We didn't know each other here on the DIS, but I was familiar with your no-princess dilemna.

Congratulations!

I second the jungle cruise idea. In fact, if you still have buddies that work there on the cruise, perhaps they can hook you up with a public proposal in front of the other guests! THAT would be so neat to see!

Well it does not involve a Disney proposal but my DH was pretty romantic............We had had a turkey dinner and we saved the wishbone, well he came into the kitchen while I was cleaning up after dinner one night and asked me what you were suppose to do with the wishbones, I told him and he said let try it, we did I got the bigger have and then he said is this what you wished for????????? And pulled out a ring, I was in total shock, I had no idea it was coming at all, and especially because we were in the kitchen, Its the most romantic thing he has ever done. Its my favorite story! Good luck, your idea will come to you, just be yourself, don't try to be to rehersed....

Proposal Ideas:

(I especially like this one for April Fools day): Hire a magician to entertain just the two of you. Have the magician make the box with the loose diamond mysteriously appear as the surprise ending of the last trick.

Or try these:

Prime a friend with harmless little secrets about the two of you, and have him pose as a psychic when you dial. Be sure to ask the right personal questions to make it look authentic. Have the psychic predict a diamond in her very near future. Then make your proposal on the spot.

During dinner at your favorite restaurant, arrange with the waiter to have the diamond in a box as one of the choices on the dessert tray. Tell her she is the sweetest thing you know and you can't resist her any longer.

Place the diamond in a presentation box at the bottom of a box of Cracker Jacks(R)... and give her the special box at your next baseball game and ask her occassionally if she has found the prize yet (to keep her alert to finding it).

For the chocoholic: Chocolate-dip the diamond box, and put it in the center of a box of chocolates when you are alone for the evening. She will always wonder what's in the largest piece of candy. Pick it up for her and open it with a flair.

If she likes cute stories, you could make a storybook of two animals (with your names) falling in love and getting engaged. Take two stuffed animals, put a coathanger in their backs to make them hold a position, then set up the animals to act out the story while you take photos. Type the words to the story on your computer and paste them to each page. Write the last page to say, "Will you marry me?", with a picture of the diamond in its presentation box. Take it all to a printer to have it bound as a booklet, then present the book at a private moment at home. Be ready with the real diamond when she gets to the last page.

If your partner loves a little mystery, deliver a letter to her with a bouquet of flowers. Let the letter serve as the first clue to a treasure hunt. At the end of the hunt she'll find you, on your knees, holding the ring

Play a trivia game together. When it is your sweetheart's turn, casually say "Your question is: Will you marry me?" rather than the question written on the card.

The one proposing can send their loved one on a scavenger hunt of old memories and end up at a place where they would propose. You can even have little clues/notes at each point along the scavenger hunt (perhaps have a note or clue in a little heart shaped box or wrapped up in a small gift). For instance, you can start at the place where you guys met, then go to a place where you went on your first date (you can even eat there if it's a restaurant), go to your "special" place, etc. and then after several of those you can end up at a place where you will propose to her. It's especially a lot of fun when you have clues and they have to guess where the next location is and then try to find your next clue hidden somewhere. This is also a very easy idea to combine with other ideas here, as well as a very easy one to personalize!

Go to a variety store and buy a ring pop. You know...one of those rings with the lolly pop diamond on the top. After dinner or a walk etc...tell her that you have a very special magic gift for her and show her the ring pop. Then tell her to close her eyes and when the ring pop is placed on her finger it will change colour. Hopefully she is willing to humor you and go along with this. Of course you place the real ring on her finger. Keep your hand over hers and tell her to open her eyes. Ask her to marry you. She will think you're joking until you lift your hand and she see's the real engagement ring.
