I know it is a long shot, but you do read of the wonderful stories of people who show up and as they are checking in at the ship, they are upgraded to a much better cabin. Will I check in at all with the Land and Sea package or do I just go straight to a room that I've already been assigned? :)

ok first of all , the land and sea package is not always the best value, try booking them seprstely and , then with the difference in price u could spend that money on an upgrade..
the only way u will get an upgrade on the cabin is if disney needs the cabin , or if u pay for it have also heard that an upgrade at the port, on the day of sailing can sometimes be less
dont count on it ...
peter :D

Hi Leigha! Cabin upgrades are really quite rare, and if they happen they generally do so BEFORE you check-in. People who requests upgrades at the port pay for them, they are not complimentary.

With the land/sea package you will not be checking in at the port (very convenient!) and will go straight to board the ship.

Have a wonderful vacation and cruise! :)

OK Michelle Its me again. Can you tell i've never cruised before LOL

Why would Disney give category upgrades? I have my cabin assignment already, why would they change it for a better cabin?

I'm real confused on this one.

Well, I'm sure you can tell that I've never cruised before either. Peter, I did check both prices and there didn't seem to be much of a difference, especially if you figure in the convenience Michelle mentioned. My DU travel agent said the Land/Sea included a good land discount. Michelle, you said I didn't check in I just board the ship. Does that mean, go straight to my room because the key that unlocks my door at CBR unlocks my cabin door? And Mjasp, I think they do it to be nice, a Disney touch! I certainly don't expect it but that doesn't stop me from wishing! Michelle, how often do you think it happens and you do know before you leave? Thanks for all the input!:)

Mjasp, upgrades happen occasionally when Disney needs a lower cabin category (due to demand) and they may bump someone already booked in a lower category to a higher category. It really does not happen very often but it's a nice bonus when it does. :) In seven cruises on DCL I've never been upgraded, but I always book higher category cabins.

Leigha, exactly, your Key to the World Card will be used for both the land and sea portions of your trip as your room key AND your charge card. Very convenient! :) If for some reason you got an upgrade (again, it's unlikely) you would generally know when you get your trip documents. A few people get offered upgrades at the last minute after they have received their documents. So either way, you would know before you arrived for your trip. :)

key to the world card and the land/sea trip
yes u will have the key to your room on the ship
u will still be required to check in at the port before u r allowed to board the ship..... there is some paper work that needs to be completed and such , depending on when the land and sea trip is u may have gotten a great value. already , and now that i know u r using dreams unlimited , u probably did
we use them for our crusing needs....
peter ps have a great trip i know u will

Hello!
We booked a land/sea pkg with a local TA in Jan. 2001 for travel Oct. 2001. We luckily received an upgrade call from our TA about 3 months before we were booked. We originally booked a porthole room but were upgraded to a Cat. 5 with verandah AND were called the next month an offered an upgrade from CBR to the Dolphin!!! I guess it's the luck of the draw, but we were very HAPPY!!!

We were of course spoiled by the verandah, and have booked our 1st 7-night cruise for next Jan. but instead of taking the chance of another (unlikely) upgrade, we went ahead and booked a verandah room ahead of time!!!

Good Luck if you take the chance!

Hi,
I was also upgraded. We went from a category 10 to a category 5. Funny thing is, we checked the ressie online before leaving the night before the cruise and we were still in our category 10 cabin. Our upgrade must have occurred the morning of our sailing :). Now we're spoiled.

We were also bumped, but was not aware of this until we got to the ships terminal. We were booked in a catagory 5 and got bumped to catagory 3 (a family suite, complete with two concierges). This was our first cruise, and plan to return in two years time. It is going to be hard to not have that family suite again!
