I found money!!! Thats the happy part but am ashamed of myself for it. I was going throught months of mail decluttering. After separating the open mail from the unopened mail I had a good sized pile of mail from my insurance company. Everyone of them were an Explanation of Benefits but a couple of them had checks in them too! I found one check for 62.00 and another one for 148.00 for dental work done in December! I know I'm suppose to give the checks to the dental office for payment but when I called them they said I had no outstanding balance due and to keep the money because I overpaid.

Heres the really bad part, sometimes when I get mail from my insurance I have been know to just rip it in half and toss it in the trash. Now I'm wondering how many checks I may have thrown away!:scared1:

Lesson I learned today was to open all mail that comes into the house!!!!

My uncle has on more than one occasion found a real dollar bill in a piece of junk mail.

Me? Not lucky enough.

Call them and tell them you have a found a pile of mail going back months and need a list of checks so you can see what is missing. If they will do it they should be happy to cut you checks that have not been cashed. Be very vague on how, where and why you found a pile of mail... good luck

My mother has received junk mail that had dollar bills in it before too. Found money is always great though!! My DD was driving down the road and came to a stop sign. She looked down and saw a dollar bill just laying there so she got out to pick it up and saw two more. They were not dollar bills though, they were twenties! :rotfl2: She was so excited to have found $60.00 on the side of the road.

The only money I ever find is in the washing machine.

Better than the Andes chocolate candy I found in the dryer 2 weeks ago...

I found 50.00 bill in my dresser drawer that I'd forgotten was there good thing I looked before throwing away the envelope. It was from Christmas money parents had given me and DH but I put it in my mad money bos . Money box of money that is my leftover money at payday any money given to me that DH does not know about. This is my mad money for things I want that I don't want to ask dh for the money or the things I know he won't buy that I really want.

What a fun surprise! I love putting on a coat and finding money in the pocket. DH teases that if he needs some cash, he goes through my coat pockets.

I never find money in my pants, the washer, etc. I think I'm almost obsessive about it, but any money I find on the sidewalk or vending machines go right into a piggy bank. Once it gets to about $10, it goes to the real bank.

Anyway, that's good, OP. Maybe try opening your mail right when you get it over your recycling bin, it really helps keep the junk from coming in your house. I usually have a very tiny pile I keep of coupons, checks, and bills.

I've gotten the one dollar bill before in the mail too. One time, many years ago, while at the public library, I found a twenty dollar bill on the floor. It was a little before the library was closing, so I waited around to see if anyone would show up to the desk to say they had lost it...no one did. :thumbsup2

My mom sold one of my sisters jackets in a yard sale once with out asking her. It just happened to be where she was hiding her 200.00 from babysitting. I am sure someone was happy when they discovered that! They certainly didn't return it.:rolleyes1

Oh, and my DD found a 10.00 bill while walking through Epcot one day. It was on the pathway behind Test Track by the Odyssey building. If it was yours, thanks for the icecream!!:rotfl2:

and now you have the start to your vacation fund!:thumbsup2 We have to pay upfront and get re-imbursed..I put the checks we get right into 2 funds...college and travel if I can. Congrats!

That's fun stuff! I just got a check for over paying my escrow for $150! Went straight into the vacation account!!! :thumbsup2

I found a $10 in the smoking area of the Wright Brother's Memorial. I looked to see if anyone was around that may have dropped it, but there was no one there :cool1:

Years ago I was walking to the video store (about three blocks away) that had a Ticketmaster to buy White Sox tickets...I had a promotion from a candy bar and the total for the tickets was only going to be 10.00. On the sidewalk in front of my neighbor's house was a 10.00 bill. I did go to her to see if she had been out and lost it but she had not. It is a residential street that has a bit of walking traffic though...there would be no way to locate an owner nor would anyone have anywhere to go to say they had lost the money.

So I took the 10 and bought my tickets!

if you have a internet access to your insurnace company. they will show how much they paid the dentist and how much the bill was submitted for and any extra money that was forwarded to you. good luck.
