I'm giving up Black Friday for a Disney Cruise! A DCL PTR/TR - 1/28 NEW PTR!!!

Three cruises booked?!?! :woohoo:

Sounds like a super relaxing day. Nothing like parking it in a lounge chair for some sunshine! Looking forward to hearing about Thanksgiving dinner. :thumbsup2

YES! Well, we just did it because the deposit is small, the Disney visa is interest free, and the deal makes it worthwhile! Even if you change dates around... This is the kind of day Vacations are made for!!!! :thumbsup2

It's funny, I didn't have the patience to actually deal with the desk. I just filled out my card, dropped it in, got my quote and then called and said "go ahead and book it using the CC on file for our stateroom". Worked like a charm!!!! Of course, I wasn't booking THREE. I do wish I'd have booked 2 though so I had a dummy to be able to move when that darn Med itin. comes out! I looked at the 2013 late Nov Fantasy, great deal but kids are too old to take out of school, very sad. I can believe it on the inside deluxe, those virtual portholes are driving up prices!

I was pretty unimpressed with breakfast on the Wonder (other than brunch) it will be interesting to see what it is like on the Dream. Your afternoon looks just perfect to me.

Fun Thanksgiving dinner and love the tree pics of the boys.

Yes, I filled out cards myself, and she sent them along for me, but I had to coordinate the booking for my inlaws, so thus we had to pay a visit to the desk!!! But I like talking with her, she was helpful, offered suggestions helped get our rooms near eachother, etc. The virtual portholes are a big deal... last Feb when we booked this cruise (the one we are going on next month) the room we are getting was less, too. Crazy. Mine are both still in Elementary school, so three days the week of Thanksgiving is a little tough, but worth it to us. When we get to Middle School in a couple years we'll see. Though I work with HS aged kids and frankly they are always leaving!!!

Dream breakfast MUCH MUCH better... just the regular buffet. You'll see. :thumbsup2

Lobster for Thanksgiving? Yes, please! :goodvibes

Adorable pictures of the boys in front of the Christmas tree!

Fun pictures from the show!

Looking forward to more Castaway Cay adventures!

OH what a great dinner!!! And the turkey dinner was also very good, frankly, we all just sampled it. I am glad we did. I was about to bust! SUCH great food that evening...

Just updated with two for CCAY! With more on the way...

Wonderful updates again :goodvibes
It's such fun reading along about your Cruise, you all look to be having a blast!

Hello!! Thanks!! We quite enjoyed ourselves on this cruise for certain, and it was a wonderful week away! I can't wait to do it again, but on the Fantasy, so you should have an amazing time!!! :thumbsup2

I read your updates when I got home from my weekend shifts and knew you had posted updates. Got up this morning(my day of rest for the week) and went to check out trip reports and found more updates on this one. Loving it.

Let me see...missing Black Friday...would I do it? Any day for Castaway Cay!!d say Castaway Cay anyday!!ant wait to see the ships passing

Wow! You have really been updating!

Your boys are too precious. Love the younger one sneaking a teach of the gingerbread house. I really didn't even notice he was under the rope. It was too cute. And I love the one of him eating at CCay.

Loved your pictures from the evening show!

Castaway Cay looks like so much fun.

My son came home with the blue castle sand bucket. However, it came from Blizzard Beach.

You are an updating MACHINE!!! :scared1:
Love the woman on the elevator with Stitch. So cute and fun that she was so excited!
THREE cruises?!!!! You go girl :thumbsup2
Lobster for Thanksgiving? Sure!!! Not a fan of turkey in most preparations. Fried is good though. ;) Boys looked really cute with their ties on :goodvibes and in front of the tree!
Mmmmm conch coolers. Happy your in laws enjoyed their time on the beach and their coolers.
Thank you for your lounge chair perspective blue sky pictures. ;)

Tracy

Absolutely loving the updates!!!

Lobster for Thanksgiving, great pictures of the boys, and a great show!!!! Now that is a great day!!!!

Love Castaway Cay...I think that island may be the one thing I am looking forward to the most on this next trip!!!!!

YES! Well, we just did it because the deposit is small, the Disney visa is interest free, and the deal makes it worthwhile! Even if you change dates around... This is the kind of day Vacations are made for!!!! :thumbsup2
:thumbsup2 I'm planning to do 2 on the next one so we have that flexibility. Love the Disney Visa for this very reason. Hoping to already have figured out what I want to book before hand, that makes the whole thing pretty painless.

We took them out in MS/HS for 2.5 days back in 2009 and it was a disaster, both older kids bombed a math test. A really bad test grade is hard to recover from due to the weighting and it just wasn't worth it. We could do 1-2 days for the E's I think at this age. Eric would be fine but Evan could have issues beyond 2 days. The challenge we had, in part, was with some teachers not responding to our requests for assignments/homework, etc and even though we really tried to cover our bases, the kids got bit a little bit. It's hard to know for sure but what I see with Evan's teachers is very inconsistent use of the technology to confirm what is due when etc and I'm told it's worse in HS.

Looking forward to a better breakfast, that's for sure! Now it looks like dream repeats o3/4th night, not in the middle like I thought so I guess I'll have to shoot for Palo on the last night...along with the rest of the ship,. UGH.

Those crowds were icky getting off, I really hope ours isn't like that but imagine it will be. Not sure I'll be able to ditch my crew like that as they will be lost. LOVING that they got Cindy's castle!

All caught up again! Looks like a lot of great food, great shows & great beach time! :thumbsup2

Do you know, I think it is the Castaway Cay update that always makes me want to book a Disney cruise -- especially when you include pictures with the characters, the blue water, and your boys thoroughly enjoying their lunches! So much fun!!! :goodvibes

WOW! I just stumbled upon this report and read the whole thing! What a wonderful trip...... The boys look like they grew so much since June! I have many questions.......We are booked on the 7 night western itinerary on the Fantasy in August..... Yes, prime hurricane time :scared1: Your posts about the choppy seas has me concerned!:rolleyes1 Did you start giving the Bonine before you embarked? Also, how did the boys like the Magic after being on the Dream? Also, our formal night is night 2...we were thinking of going to Palo instead, did you notice a big difference in how guests dressed from formal night to semi-formal night? Thanks Jen, I'm really enjoying reading about your adventures and how fun to sail with extended family!:goodvibes

catching way up. When we cruise someday I will have you and Anita walk me through all the fun, you forget after time and I have no idea how to do with with the kids. I am waiting for the shopping pics and the future cruises you booked!

Oh I know, I quite forgot it was Black Friday, to be honest, and I did a fair amount of shopping, trust me! LOL! But I agree it was a great way to enjoy the day after Thanksgiving... CCay... Can't complain!!!

YES, trying to get it all done b/c I am anxious to start my SUMMER PTR!!! :yay:

Thanks, they are sweet guys, Disney loving, so I can't complain! Though I am afraid we will be going to Universal soon... :sad2:

You know those castle buckets are pretty cool!

Hey! Just trying to get it done!! We have exactly a month before our Pres Day cruise (with a night at the AKL!) but I wanted to be done with this one so I can start my PTR!!!!

Thanks, they do clean up nice, though without the brown belts I had a dickens of a time keeping their shirts tucked!!!! Oh we ALL enjoyed our Conch coolers... I think I had three!!! and then something else with mango!!!! LOL!!!

I know those pictures end up in ALL my TRs... did you notice that??!!

Absolutely loving the updates!!!

Lobster for Thanksgiving, great pictures of the boys, and a great show!!!! Now that is a great day!!!!

Love Castaway Cay...I think that island may be the one thing I am looking forward to the most on this next trip!!!!!

OH and it was great lobster, too!!!! YUMMMMMMM.... Thanks! We had a lovely day. AND CCAY was just also so great! Had a wonderful day on this TRIP. We always do, but I think on this trip especially so.

I don't recall the crowds getting off in June, so I am not sure if there was a delay, or what... but I was also trying to secure a few more seats... the 3rd night is Pirate's night, and the 4th night is the restaurant rotation... so in our case, we have Remy's the first night (missing Enchanted Garden) Animator's (regular menu) the Palo's for Pirate night (b/c we like the Royal Palace menu) and then the Royal Palace menu for our final night... SO, depending on your rotation, you have to decide Pirate's menu, or the restaurant menu... if we were doing this with kids, I would flip Enchanted Garden with Royal Palace, and would have stayed for the Pirate menu, then yes, done Palo's our final night... Is it just you and Kendall? I couldn't remember who was coming out for this cruise...

YES, lots of great food, shows, and beach time, then repeat repeat repeat!!! (just in case you didn't get enough!!!)

How do you know your dining rotation ahead of time? There are 5 of us on this one, Jeff & I, The E's and Kendall. I don't really want to ditch the kids on pirate night and since 2 of the restaurants are new to us and Animators is enhanced over what it was on the Wonder, it seems like the last night is really the only night that works with out giving something up. I am worried that everyone else will be thinking the same thing though and a ressie will be impossible to get. Jeff isn't on board for Remy, which is ok with me but we are kind of thinking just Palo dinner and no brunch only b/c it's a shorter cruise.

I know you've requested a table for 4 on your rotations as well, how did you do that?

You know that is why we LOVED the 5 night cruise with the two day stop at CCay... not sure why they are stopping that one... it was great! It really makes for a fun day, wait till you see the next set of photos and updates!!!!

Hi Diane!!! WOW!!! GOOD for you! We have that cruise booked too, but not till November. I didn't know you were going on another cruise! Did you just decide? Going with Leslie and co again? The Mexican Riviera doesn't get the same storm patterns I hear, so maybe you get some unsettled weather along the way but then once you get to the region it will be better. The Bahamas are more suspect apparently...

Regarding Bonine, yes. We took it the day we left. The boys too. They have to take it twice a day. The kids version is a 6 - 8 hour pill... the adult dose once a day. Depending on Matthew's age, he might be big enough (weight, etc.) to take the adult version. Get it and take to your pediatrician to see.... Then he only has to take it once, AND it isn't chewable... Eric will probably have to go with the kids chewable... I would be safe vs. sorry, and Bonine is much better than Dramamine IMO -- even the non-drowsy Dramamine... I saw a lot of people with patches behind their ears... my DMIL also used our sea bands, which helped her... I can't stand them, though, they ruin my outfit LOL!!!! :rotfl:

The Magic was very different from the Dream for OBVIOUS reasons... but I have to say there were some elements from the Dream that they could have adopted to the classic ships... some of the buffet offerings for breakfast, for instance, and a few other things... now the Magic didn't have the same upgrade that the Wonder had for the Outlook Cafe and bar etc. for adults ... and I really missed that. Would have liked to have it for cocktails before dinner, or after dinner.... they had music in the evenings, it was nice because of the location and the view... You all would have liked that too I believe. The Outlook Cafe on the magic is only coffee drinks. Not a regular bar... Some of the ship looked a little worse for wear, well, maybe just a little neglected. Not on purpose, but I think b/c they were going in for drydock. I hope before the 2013 sailings they retrofit the Magic like the Wonder. I don't mean to say that to complain, I STILL felt it was a Disney cruise experience, AND it was awesome, but I have been a little spoiled on the Dream, and missed some of the features from the Wonder... The kids didn't seem to notice too much, they still enjoyed the club activities, the pool area, etc. They didn't get to do the Aqua Duck, obviously, and the technology in the kids club was not as elaborate, but Disney is still Disney. FOOD at dinner, etc. was great... NO complaints at all... Formal night MORE people did dressy dress-up I think then they "down played" it on Semi Formal -- like you might to a spring daytime wedding, event, etc... Like in June, with sparkles and even capris and such... but I had boys in ties and shirt both night, maybe a little more dressy with their slacks/shoes grey and black, vs. khaki and ties with loafers for semi.... and I wore a long Maxi dress for Semi Formal... Matt didn't wear a tie, just a jacket on semi Formal night... And it was more casual cut, light color, etc. So as with anything on these cruises, I think go with what you like! :thumbsup2

I will look forward to hearing about your time b/c you are going on the Fantasy before us!!! I CAN'T wait!!!! I will say after that 7 night cruise, I won't do anything shorter, unless it is another 5 night... 4 nights with family seem too short. As a couple it is great. but for a family vacation, that 7 night is gold!!! :thumbsup2

catching way up. When we cruise someday I will have you and Anita walk me through all the fun, you forget after time and I have no idea how to do with with the kids. I am waiting for the shopping pics and the future cruises you booked!

Oh you know that is how we all get the confidence and knowledge to do anything at Disney -- it is called help eachother sort things out with those in the know!!! LOL!!!! :goodvibes I am wrapping up the CCay photos tonight, the TR tomorrow, and then!!!! OFF to my PTR for SUMMER!!!! (will include my Feb adult cruise getaway in there as well!!!!)

Hey! Well, take a good look at the menu for Animator's and for Enchanted Garden before you request a rotation... it may be you like one menu vs. the other, more.

RE the rotation you call and request it. There is plenty of time to do that now, so you should be okay. Just as for a table without table mates. Usually they are very accomodating. Do you have second dining? there is much more flexibility then....

ANNOUNCEMENT about Magic and Wonder Itineraries coming up in the next day or two I hear!!!! Exciting...

Yeah, maybe I should do that. I was thinking I'd go for Animators as the duplicate since the boys love the theming SO much, but I'll check out the menu's first. We didn't request a rotation last year but were happy with how it turned out. I'm not sure if we want to request a table without table mates or not. I'd love it if we could request our table have another 16 year old girl, that would be the ideal if you ask me. Our table mates really enhanced our Alaska cruise experience but..it could go either way.

We do have 2nd seating. :thumbsup2

I'm SO bummed I didn't book 2 while on the Wonder, then I could snap something up when they come out. As it stands I'll have to wait till August to try and book as I just can't swing a deposit now. Plus, as I understand it, they'd just cancel the booking I have, and book a new one, not apply the OBB discount anyway.

Your updates just make me smile :)
We are two adults without kids so tend to head straight to Serenity Bay but I think we will spend some time on the family beach this time
That's where the best snorkelling seems to be
I am such a type A planner; it's driving me crazy not knowing our rotation/theme each night
Your TR is giving me loads of ideas :-)

The menu at the Enchanted Garden is something like Asian Fusion, etc... I dunno, I recall not loving that meal... DH did, though. When I am there next month, I'll take good notes! I was under the impression they still give you the deal and the perks if you change it.... their literature even says as much... you just have to still be the travel party... can't put it in someone else's name... when I booked DH's parents, we did rooms with adults and our last name, so there wasn't any concern that it wasn't "us" KWIM?

So glad! Now, I will confess that DH and I, when we go solo, the past three President's day weekends!! We head directly to Serenity Bay too... but I like walking about the island, it is really pretty!!! :goodvibes

Well as I mentioned in the last post, the captain told us that this afternoon on CCay we would have the opportunity to see the Magic and the Dream have a "meeting" as they passed by us on their way out to sea. SO, low and behold the Dream emerged in the distance....

Disneyfall2011985.jpg

And I sat in my lounge watching it get closer... closer... and then I got up and switched cameras, and walked over to the dock area by the Pelican Plunge... I took DS6 with me. I grabbed these photos as well...

Disneyfall2011991.jpg

Here is the pier...

Disneyfall2011992.jpg

Disneyfall2011994.jpg

It was fun because they played their ship horns back and forth, the Magic with its "when you wish..." , and The Dream with four or more songs, I can't recall now, but definitely a repetoire!!! LOL!!!

Disneyfall2011986.jpg

I used my zoom lens here...

The ship eventually turned out and continued on her way, but of course seeing them together was pretty neat!

Then DS6 wanted me to join him in the water to take photos of the fish (they were busy trying to catch them with those castle buckets!!!!)

Disneyfall20111289.jpg

Disneyfall20111297.jpg

Of course watching the fish that were the same color in the water in the sun was not easy... so at one point I just stuck my camera in the water and pressed the button, and hoped for the best  Needless to say I took WAY too many photos.. but here are a few of the water-colored fish.

Disneyfall20111280.jpg

After our fun with the fish... we headed back out to the pier to see the Pelican Plunge....DS4 enjoyed the water gun features that are available next to the slide.

This whole area is really nice, and the pier and the bar out by the Pelican Plunge is really a nice layout...

CONTINUED in the NEXT POST!!!!!

Alas, as 4pm drew closer, it was time to start our trek back to the boat... The boys sure enjoyed themselves playing in the sand all day... here is the proof... :thumbsup2

Disneyfall20111320.jpg

Of course this afternoon was waning, and it was time for our departure from paradise... But not before I arranged to get a few photos of the Sand Castle masterpiece fun!!! A whole afternoon's worth of work!!! LOL!!! Granted both boys worked on these with other kids, too, one older boy in particular, who spent a couple hours with DS9 on the big one!!! :thumbsup2

Disneyfall20111314.jpg

You can see how late in the afternoon is was getting....

Disneyfall20111005-1.jpg

SO we packed up and started back to the ship... but of course my boys were more interested in being silly, so we took a lot of photos along the way, we had a great time!!!
