... feeling the Love, that is. :cool1:

I saved up my pennies for a many months (about 8), and visited my friendly neighbourhood camera shop, and look what I got:

You know its the good stuff because it comes with its own golf bag :lmao:

I think I'm going to need to use my battery grip more often, as this makes my XTi body look like a toy when its on the back. :rotfl:

Now if I can only figure out how to fit it in my camera bag, I'll really be set!

Congrats, I have and love that lens, I use it all the time for sporting events, I really need to put it on the camera more at Disney though.

Nice!!!!:thumbsup2

Cashier must have looked shocked when you walked in with over a 100,000 pennies :lmao:

I am researching for tele zooms currently.
I may end up with the 70-300 IS so I will have money for other lens I want as well. Plus many times I need the extra 100 it provides but dang would love to have that L lens

That's what the 1.4x extender is for, gets you to 280 at f/4

Or in his case at F/2.8 :thumbsup2

No actually the extender bumps you up a level, so with the 1.4 the best your getting on your f/2.8 lens is f/4 the 2x extender takes to stops which is why I didn't get that one.

I feel it too. I've had one for about 6 months now and love it.

Although it does come with its ups and downs:

Ups- take out that lens, put on a photog vest and people will get out of your way when you want to take a shot. They assume you're a pro.

Downs- with such high quality gear, you can't blame your equipment anymore when your shots don't turn out.

And I never take my battery grip off my XT anymore.

And you need to post some more photos. I love using mine to take candids at family functions. Here is my DD at the pumpkin patch. I love the color, contrast and sharpness of this lens.

I also have the 1.4 extender and it does make the f/2.8 a f/4.0. When you add a stop of length, you loose a stop of light since the aperture measurment is a ratio of the opening to the focal lenghth. When you increase the focal length, you change the ratio.

That is a great lens. I love mine! I have not yet found a decent use for the golf bag it came with though. :lmao: My lens is always in my camera bag.

I just picked a used one up last week, after almost having a heart attack because the postal service could not find it for 2 days I was happy to get it and cant wait to get out and use it. I sold 2 other lenes(70-200 f4 and a 70-200 f4 IS) in order to get it.
I didnt realize how much heavier and how much bigger it would be than the other 70-200 and my XT looks so small when its mounted, guess I will be using my 30D with it.
Has anyone ever bought this to Disney and used it? What bag did you use to bring it there in and where you able to keep it mounted in the bag?

99% of the time when I am using mine it is on a monopod, so not as important to me.

every weekend august thru October I work the PA Ren Fairre, I use 2 lenses..my 28-70 2.8 and my 80-200 2.8..it's great for candids of performers at a distance, at 2.8 outside that time of year shutter speeds are plenty high for hand holding, so I carry it during the day, hanging around my neck via my lens cradle, whether mounted to my camera or not..

as soon as I buy my second body, the 28-70 will stay on the new camera and the 80-200 will take up residence on my 7D....
one of the performers turned the table on me and snapped this shot of me waiting for the pirate auction to start..

I carry it in my bag, I only put it on when I want to use it, then it goes back in the bag. I carry a lowpro slingshot 200.

Here is one example of it being used. If your familiar with DL I was standing on the bridge over the pirates entrance

I hope to get some pictures with the new lens over the weekend. I snapped a few of our Black Lab running around in white snow in our backyard, and it performed very nicely. I've had real probelms getting shots like that previously (mostly due to focus hunting on my other lenses). I'll post a couple once I process them.

You really need the battery grip on the XTi for this lens. I didn't normally use it, but I think I'll try to get used to it now. I showed my son what it looked like without the battery grip with the new lens on and he laughed out loud- it just didn't look right.

As for the lens cradle suggestion, I might consider that as I like to keep my camera out most of the time.

It does look like I will need a new bag, though. I have a Lowepro Compu Daypack, and its just too small. I like the backpack style, as I am usually the family pack horse and need to carry other stuff besides my camera (especially when at WDW). Why does one purchase always seem to lead to another :confused3

I finally got a chance to use the new lens at our local zoo yesterday. I must say that a constant f2.8 ROCKS!:thumbsup2

Lots of pictures added, so get ready to scroll!

guessing these were the canons you sold...how is the iq of crops comparing the 2...i'd like the aperture but love my 70-200f4 IQ so it would have to be pretty great to make me change:laughing: these look very good but just wondering from a comparison stand point

SWEEEEET!!! Great shots too.

Between Nikon and Canon, the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR/IS has to be one of the best lenses in both companies lineups. Some day I'll be able to afford me one of those.

I have to say I do "get it" when people talk about L glass. It's definitely fast on the focus and the image quality is great. BTW, I couldn't wait long enough to save my pennies for the IS version, so this is non-IS.

All these shots were handheld and required little post-processing, even with all the snow in the outdoor shots. I am a very happy camper, and really looking forward to our trip in August, my first one with a DSLR at WDW. I've got my family to the point they are tolerating me slowing down while on vacation to take photoS:rotfl2:

Now back to figuring out my Bag Dilemna!
