I thought I was doing a good thing and decided to get my cholesterol checked because I hadn't had it checked in years. The good news is that my cholesterol numbers were very good, but my sugar level was 110 and should be less than 109. I have to repeat the blood test in a month.

Anybody else ever experience this or any suggestions? My mom was juvenile diabetic and I sure don't want to go down the Type 2 diabetes road. I am going to be 42.

Anyways, just needed to vent.

Same thing happened to me. My cholesterol is great, but last year I was "borderline" diabetic. (I had Gestational Diabetes, so know I am at risk) I KNEW I wasn't following a healthy lifestyle, but it's still difficult when you're presented with concrete evidence that you're endangering your health! The good news is, after walking daily for a month, and dropping about 8 pounds, my FBS went down to normal. I haven't had it rechecked since I've reached goal (around 50 pounds less) but am assuming that it will be fine at my yearly checkup. Funny how I don't dread it this year. :)

So start moving, cut down on carbs and sweets (there's a great sugar free jello available) or go whole hog and start whichever diet appeals to you.

A recent study compared the more popular diets, and came to the same conclusion I did. The best diet is the one that you can stick to the longest. For me, it was WW. For others, it was Atkins or South Beach. However, the best results involved combing exercise, and making PERMANENT changes.

I gotta agree with Froglady. Cut back on processed carbs and sugar and start exercising faithfully. Those two things should take care of that blood sugar pretty quick!! You can do it!! ::yes::

Let us know how it's going, OK?? If you have more questions, ask away!

Please don't let it get you down. It sounds like this has happened to others and there is a good chance that your numbers will be better the next time you have it checked. You are doing your body so much good in getting healthier so don't let it get you discouraged. I'm saying a prayer for you.

Just adding a little extra exercise should get your sugar lower but eliminating white flour and sugar from your diet too will give you quick results.

Good luck with this, my husband is type II diabetic and it is a dangerous illness.

Thanks for the replies. I have been walking 5x a week since July and have lost about 18 lbs. It makes me wonder how high it would have been had I not started doing this. I have been doing WW and trying to cut back on the refined carbs. I'm going to have the blood work retested around Dec 19. I'll let you know how it turns out!
