I just got back from my 1st trip as a DVC member. I confess, I haven't read every reply to this because I am exhausted (got stuck at Atlanta airport, long story) but wanted to reply myself.
I loved SSR so much I don't care to stay anywhere else. It felt like the home the minute I got there. The bell staff was ready to help me w/my luggage before my body was even out of the van! So the bell staff does certainly exist. I was checked in by a very nice CM, who welcomed me home, one of the trainees from HK DL. He answered any questions I had about the resort, as I was concerned I wouldn't be able to find my way around( had visions of certain folks saying how spread out it is) he said he thought I would really enjoy the room they had for me. Boy did I ever! I personally could not care less about the ''outside hallways'' some folks complain about, that's a big deal???? Didn't even really need a hallway, had a door to the outside right outside my room, 1 direction led me to carriage house, the other led me to DTD. And I began and ended each day, relaxing on the patio. I loved taking nice pleasant walks around SSR, I had never spent this much time just soaking up the atmosphere at a resort as I did on this trip. I thought the view to DTD was amazing. I actually got up a couple times very early to go relax in the hot tub in peace, at the hot tub in Congress Park. A couple times when the crowds were really thick in the parks, I just wanted to go ''home'' to feel peace. I had never even thought that before no matter where I've stayed. As far as the food, I can understand everyone's concern about the food at AP, I really can, but all that matters to me is what suits my family, and my father really enjoyed it there. He would say in the morning ''we are gonna eat here today, right'' We really only had dinner there once, the 1st night and we had flatbreads and enjoyed them. I guess I can uinderstand people's concerns about the main pool, but since pools were never very important to my family's needs, it didn't seem like a big deal to me. When I checked out Friday morning, I felt like I was leaving my home, and I cried a little. Dad said this resort is the best Disney one yet, and he's stayed at a bunch, so that really says something to me.
I'll end this by saying, that if other's don't care for SSR, that's fine 1) we are all entitled to our own feelings 2) more room for me!
Gonna go colapse from exhastion now. Talk to you all soon!

I'm glad you had a great time. I took my first trip to SSR a few weeks ago and had a fantastic :love2: time. The resort is very relaxing and we had no problems with waiting time for bus transportation.

Doug, great report!

I agree with you, Saratoga is a wonderful resort. I joined DVC in March 2002. I have now stayed at SSR, BCV (twice) and Old Key West. All three resorts are like you described. I find a certain peace at DVC that I never experience anywhere else.

I am heading to Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, another DVC property, on May 21st. I suspect I will have another great experience. :cool1:

OH NO! :confused3

Sorry Athenna. :guilty:

Time for me to take that remedial reading 101 course. :rotfl2:

Glad you had a great trip. I could not agree with you more on the Saratoga experience. :flower:

Welcome Back Athenna!

Glad you enjoyed your first trip home to SSR. I know how you felt the first couple of days, wondering what all the complaining was about! Especially when you visit the other DVC's and see every Rose has its thorns.
LOL!

I will say that I agree with you about wanting to enjoy the Resort more when at SSR. That's the feeling we get also especially when it's crazy at the parks. We loved walking around, walking to DTD, the Congress Park pool and playground and the awesome view! The DTD view is unrivaled IMHO.

Your TR made my decision to stay at BCV next month even harder, because I know we will miss SSR. We booked BCV at 11 months, but we really enjoyed our 6 nights at SSR over Christmas and I've been struggling ever since.

Glad your family had a great trip!

I'm glad to read that you had a great time and that you enjoyed SSR so much!

In spite of knowing that there's a next time planned, I'm always sad when I leave our home sweet home in WDW as well.

When we stayed at SSR in Dec. my DH said that was it. He didn't care to stay at any other DVC. So this last trip was planned at the last minute. The only thing open was at OKW. He loved it too. So even if you think you never want to stay anywhere else you might want to try a new place every now and then.

Wow - it sounds like you had a fantastic time! I was hoping that it would blow you away, simply because I think that everyone deserves that from time to time. You were missed around here, but I am so glad you had a great time. I am also so glad to hear about the services being so great. When we go home in December, I will have a 5 year old, 3 year old and a 6 week old and I will NEED all that extra help :goodvibes (unless you want to tag along :earboy2: )

Did Dad enjoy himself as much? It sounds like it. :teeth:

(Its really funny, but I felt a little tug when we just went to SSR to meet my sister for a few minutes on our trip to OKW recently - she sells trips to schools and was involved with the Magic Music days and said SSR is really a GREAT place for the kids that are doing stuff like that with the performance halls, etc.)

lllovell, it is so good to hear from you!
it did blow me away, it really did. I never felt so relaxed before.
I would love to tag along to give you some help :earboy2:
Yeah, I do think there is a lot for kids to do, especially with all the daily scheduled events that they have.
dad had a blast, he really loved it there!

Glad you had such a great trip!!! And, I am also very happy that you loved SSR so much!!! Loving the resort that you own is WONDERFUL!!!!

And, I have to agree with you about wanting to "relax" at the DVC resorts. We never experienced this, either...until the first time we were staying at DVC. In Dec, we were at the BWV.....and we BARELY made it into the parks....I just couldn't tear myself out of my WONDERFUL, RELAXING room. We just got back from WDW too (this time with friends who like to go "commando"), and I really missed the parks NOT closing early so I could have an excuse to go back to the room!!! We loved traveling with our friends, but I think we will "cherish" the time we are DVC resorts by ourselves so we can do NOTHING and not feel guilty about it!!!

We loved it there, too. I hope I'm not going to be too sad staying at BWV next week! LOL

So glad to hear positive feedback all around!!!

Okay, so what was your WW point total for the week? :rotfl: Just kidding!! I am so glad that you had a great trip! We really liked SSR, but VWL is still "home" to us. I would like to stay at SSR again, when we don't have family with us and feel like we have to be "trip planners". SSR is a great "hang out" resort. My kids really liked it too. Glad that your next trip is not too far off.

Just wondering - did the bellstaff actually deliver your luggage to your room? The worst thing about our last trip to SSR was that there was no bellstaff to be found when we checked in and we made MANY trips up and down the elevator unloading and loading our car since there were no luggage carts at the individual buildings.

Hi athenna! Glad you had a great trip, and enjoyed SSR! We can't wait to try it out for the first time in Dec. :goodvibes

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm quite sure I went over my WW point total for the week, as eating at WDW happens to be one of my favorite things to do there. But I walked a ton!! I'm sure I didn't lose any weight, but I'm pretty sure I didn't gain any either. I'll find out tomorrow, when it's back to the scale! :guilty:

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you had such trouble.
Maybe I just had good luck. Like I mentioned they were realy to help me before I could even get out of the vehicle. They put all my luggage into 1 of those cart they drive around (don't know what it's called) we jumped in and he drove us to the room, got out, and brought our luggage right into the room for us.
