I don't really have time to write up a full trip report right now. So the short and sweet is:

I had a great time!

Pop Century worked out really well for me for accessibility.

A solo trip really wasn't any harder then trips with others. The CMs were great at bringing my wheelchair back to the ride car for me to transfer. I always push myself everywhere anyway so that wasn't any different.

I actually was able to travel at what I call "wheelchair" speeds instead of the slower walking pace. My comfortable pushing pace is faster then most people's walking pace and it was nice not to have to hold back when space permitted the faster pace.

I am abit sore right now but it'll be gone in a couple of days. I don't get tired or sore while pushing around the parks but I do have some aches and pains when I wake up the next morning. I guess I'm getting old. ;)

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll be posting my room pictures and measurements soon and I hope to write up a big trip report in the next few weeks.

thanks for the report and glad to hear you had a good time.

Bill- I'm glad you had a good time! The only trouble I've had at Pop is how heavy the doors are- actually this is a problem for me at every resort. I have maintenance remove the spring-loaded piece at the top at which point my service dog can open and shut the door for me. I always worry about scraping the door as I enter and it's kind of a tight fit at Pop. Which building did you stay in? How did you find the food court there? There's another problem for me when going with the kids- the queue lines are a little narrow. ---Kathy

:woohoo: Glad you had such a great trip! I look forward to reading the full report!

I haven't gotten around do doing a full trip report yet. Hopefully I will do one but I'm still on the fence about it. However I have done a HUGE dining review post with lots of pics.

One disABILITIES related picture is of the lift that takes you to Bistro de Paris. It's one of those older style lifts instead of an elevator. Very cramped, very tall and not good for people who are claustiphobic.

OK, that elevator looks more like a small fridge to me.

Seeing you've been to multiple resorts and multiple times, I would like to take advantage of your experience; how would you say the level of wheelchair-friendlyness (spelling?) at ASPop is compared to the ASmu ASMo and AmSp? I'm getting pretty annoying on myself, starting to think about maybe wanting to stay at Pop instead of ASMo so any info would be great.

Reading about the wheelchair-speed versus walking speed is so recognizable! :rotfl2: I've had the same thing with my manual wc (even more with the power wc).

DCLfun, good to read they took piece of the door! I've been a bit like "hmm" about doors with springs, especially since I've been used to the comfort of electrical doors with remote control (I'm spoiled, I know :) ). I'm not worried about being stuk. With these big resorts there will allways be someone around to help if I can't open a door myself, but it would be great if I could do it myself. I will definately ask about the possibility of the spring-piece being taken of if I'm not able to help myself.

I was in room 3103 in the 50s building, it's on the first floor facing the pool. Personally I didn't have any problems with the door but I hated the fake cobblestones over near the big statue of Tramp. I eventually found a path around the cobblestone area near the elevators. The food court was easy for me to maneuver around but I'm pretty good at getting in and out of tight places.

Pop Century isn't one of the All Star resorts. :) And actually I like it because of that. Pop Century is larger then the individual All Star resorts so it might be tougher to get around for some but for me it was fine. The best thing I like about Pop Century is it only has one bus stop. If you're staying at All Star Movies the bus will stop at Sports, then Music, then Movies and the wheelchair seat area of the bus might already be full before it gets to your stop.

Bill,
Glad you had a wonderful trip. Sorry we missed you.
Deb

I was keeping an eye open for you guys! I hope you had a great time.

Woops, didn't know Pop isn't a AS.

Sounds like there are pro's and cons for both. Reading about the cobblestones makes me go. :scared1: Are they just at Pop or at the AS resorts also? I'm very sensitive for any bump, however small it is. I'm very willing to be in more pain from any rides, but stones just aren't worth it. :sad2:

I've read about the buss-sharing. Seems to be conflicting stories on that, or better said it looks like they share at certain periods and have own busses on other times.

There was an easy way around the cobblestones. Just go in back of the statue near the elevators. I walked around Pop Century alot into the various decades and there was only one spot that had the cobblestones...of course that was the spot right next to my room. :rotfl2:

I have heard about the All Stars each having thier own buses during busy times. But I was just more comfortable knowing there was only one drop off point at Pop Century.

Bill, Glad you had a good trip!! (Your food reviews were great too!)

At least the Bistro is accessible these days. We had sort of forgotten about it, because years ago when we were interested in dining there, it was not accessible at all.

My guess is they have always had that service elevator there & were able to use it to meet ADA guidelines.

That's probably a good guess.
That's what that elevator looks like.

I've been in the service elevator before at Columbia Harbor House at the MK when I was attending a group outing and this was where everyone gathered for lunch. Bill....can't wait to read your dining reviews. I also know what you mean about the cobblestones at Pop ( whiplash, whiplash). I quickly also fournd the alternate route!---Kathy
