For a refresher here is my pre tip report

Welcome to the Grymaloski Family Pre-Trip Report!

Join us as I help you relive our 2 week journey drive from Saskatchewan to Anahiem!

Who:

Me, Harlie AKA Jen 29. I have never been to Disney anything. I have mostly traveled within Canada (We are Canadian afterall) I have been to Orlando but never did try WDW. I did see USF, I thought it was okay, I hated the terminator ride/show because when the robot head came flying out of the screen I ended up with my first ever Migraine headache. I am a ride lover I LOVE rollercoasters the most! I love the butterflies in my tummy feeling. I can't wait to see Cap'tn Jack, stich, sponge bob, the Simpsons, and Curious George!

DH, Chad, 31. He has been to DL 2ce as a child. His last trip was 20 years ago though so things will probally seem rather new to him. DH is not so much a ride fan though he does like the old fashion rollercoasters! DH is really looking forward to the Tiki room (he has been singing the song for the last month! lol!), seeing mater and Goofy, and watching his family glow with excitment at their first ever Disney experience!

DD8, Alycia, 8. DD is my DD from a previous relationship. She stays with us full time. She has vision problems and we have been told with time she will go blind. She will really enjoy all the rides She is a thrill seeker! She will also enjoy meeting the princesses and the HSM show! She will be going to Libby Lu for the first time, and has no clue!

DS7, Dade, 7(almost 8). DS is DH's DS from a previous relationship. He stays with us full time. He has issues and is a throws tantrums nightly, asthma and eczema. (the fits we believe are from the medication he is one, it makes him super hyper and hard to keep under control) He will mostly look forward to Pirates of the Carribean, spiderman, food and anything non water related.

DS3, Zachary, 3. Our DS together. Zach as he prefers to called is our comedian in the family. He will enjoy the most Seeing all characters, including princesses. Anything with trains, but mostly mater and lightning McQueen, Alice, Mickey and Goofy, Sponge Bob, and Curious Goerge!

DN(niece)10, Kailyn, 10. Our niece is a little drama, errr a lot drama , a little rocknroll. The key thing is she is really helpful with our DS3, they are like peas in a pod! She will enjoy anything HSM and rides! She is also getting some Club Libby Lu attention! We are taking her while her mom goes to Hawaii to get married. (yes without her DD)We really wanted to to have an opportunity to experience Disney and since she was getting left behind it just made sense to take her, and she really is helpful with DS3!

What(AKA Itinerary):

We leave February 16th, 2008.

February 16th Day one on the road at 3am for a 27 hours plus driven road trip. Are we insane for doing this with 4 kids..... probally. Our choices were:

1) The "sane" way. This would mean flying, but since taking 6 people on a flight would be $$$ the choice was a flight with a really short 3 day trip or the insane way.

2) The "insane" way. This includes one 2003 ford Windstar with a built in DVD/tv hauling our buts for 27 plus hours with 4 children, 2 of which will not fall asleep in the van while we are driving.

Day One and Two (a change in plans)

We decides to leave early. We were about to be hit with a snow storm and we wanted to leave before it hit. This was a good Choice. We left Regina Saskatchewan at 9 pm and drove until we hit Glendive Montana. We tried to check in to a hotel there but they were booked solid due to a highschool basketball tournament. So we continued on to Miles Montana and stayed and I believe to be a Days INN.

We woke up dressed and got into the van, but not with out a few falls because it had rained and froze. I had a nice bruise on my rump but I was laughing it was all good lol!

We drove, and drove and hit West Yellowstone. OMWord! There was sooo much snow!! I will add a picture later! After all the picture atking we left and continued on Until we reached Salt Lake City. This is where I got a brief taste of how american drivers on the freeways should be called suicide drivers! I don't know who thought it was a brillient idea to increase the speed limit on 6 lane roads to 130 kms only to thow in people that don't signal and people that break for no apparent reason, but to me it is suicide It only got worse in LA. It is pretty scary to someone that rarely sees accidents to drive by at least 5 clean up crews in a span of one hour! We got to our hotel and went for supper at some sort of fast food pasta chain I beilive was called Fazoli's. After all day in a car we all suffered from eye's bigger then stomache syndrome. Most of the food went to waste. This was a common theme on our trip until we discovered a way to remedy it later!

Day Three- Is it me or are the LA Freeways the scariest rides out there!

We wake up and check out and discover to our pleasant Surprise that there is no snow in Salt Lake City and it is fairly nice! (No jackets for us WaHoo)We Keep trekking to Las Vegas And we were totally amazed by the beauty of what we saw! I will insert pictures later!

The Weather was sweet and the palm trees were a plenty the further we got to our Destination! The Kids were excited as Disney was sooo close, but we had to torcher them by telling them they had to wait two more sleeps until we can visit the land of the mouse!

So we approach the LA area freeway system and let me get on my soap box for a minute here

LA Drivers ARE EFING CRAZY!!!!! Especially the ones on motorcyles!! I am convinced that getting a Drivers license In California must be as easy as getting a prize in a Cracker Jack box! Again Disney could throw any ride at me and it would not be anywhere Near as scary as being a passenger in the front seat with my husband driving in LA!:scared:

We arrived to our "home" for the next week and a bit The Anahiem Islander Inn and Suites. I got out of the Windstar and literally kissed the ground thanking God that I was still Alive!:worship:

We Checked in hauled in our luggage changed clothes and we were quite impressed with our room! It was clean and it was no less then what we expected and needed. I would recommend this hotel to a larger family like ours! I must rave about the housekeeping wow is the only word I can come up with, They cleaned our room and even did cute things with our childrens many stuffed animals! We were really impressed!

Right across the street was Bubba Gump Shrip Co.! How exciting we run there and and after a 20 min wait we got in. While waiting we took some pics! I will insert them later!

I had the burbon mahi mahi shrimp mmmmmmmmmm yum! DH loved my meal more then his! LOL! It is usually the other way around! All the kids got drinks that came with the flashing cups and we had an instant suvonier!

After a great meal (I highly recommend this place if you have never been!) We walk back to our room and shower and bed. We did not set the alarm for our next day at Universal Studios as we felt that we will work it at our own pace.

Stay Tuned for Day four - Whats so bad about Universal Studios Hollywood?

Universal Studios is on the Menu today.

We wake up at about 6 am (which is 8 am our time which is like sleeping in for us) we take our time getting ready and we go to IHOP for Breakfast. The food was sub par and the bill was really $$$ for what we got. We decided that we would not go back there.

We get back on to the Freeway system (after DH had to pry my fingers from the handrail in the parking lot with me kicking and screaming NOOOOOOOOOO) We drove and saw Downtown LA buildings Wow Huge and beautiful! It was difficult to look at them for fear if I took my eyes off the road infront of use DH would kill us on the Crazy freeway or someone else would! (Have I mentioned that I didn't want to die before we got to Disneyland?)

Finally we get to USH and after another love making session with the ground we make our way to enter the park. The weather was decent and we had a great day!

Now we purchased an all you can eat pass and it was worth it. There was no way we could feed our family for any cheaper then the $19 per person over 48" and $10 for the tow we had that were under that height for the rest of the day!

DS7 threw fits before every ride and came out loving that ride and wanting to go on it again for everything but The Mummy! I loved that ride the most!:thumbsup2

We had a TON of Character interaction. Our Favorite by far was with Curious George! DS3 is a huge fan (so am I) and he go a lot of one on one time with his buddy! It was soooo sweet I had trears swelling in my eyes to see how happy my tiny tike was!

We saw Lucy(I Love Lucy),George, Fival, Crash, Shrek, Sponge Bob,Scoobie doo, Shaggy, and there are so many more! I will post pics later!

We had lunch at CS place I can't remember the name of. The only thing I can say is there was very little info on what those with all you can eat dinning could get, and what the kids could get! It was confusing but When we went to Mel's diner It was posted more clearly and made more sense. The check out person was really nice there and though finding a table was like pulling teeth a nice family that was done tapped me on the shoulder to let me have their table when they were done!:woohoo:

We all had a great time a USH and thought that we could have easily spent more time there! We are a group of 2 adults with 4 children 10 and under so maybe that had a lot to do with it. There was no shortage of things for kids to do there especially since the Curious George exibit had recently opened. We spent a lot of time there having fun ball fights!

So the night was comming to an end and we had an early morning at Disneyland the next day so with DH Dragging me back to the minivan with me screaming you can't make me get back on that highway (well maybe not really but I felt like it)

The day had tuckered out all the kids as they fell asleep on the way home (although I can't understand how with all the sudden breaking DH had to do) I envied them and their I have no idea that I just about died 6 times in 20 minutes naivety.

Back at the hotel where I yet again worship the ground and thank god I am alive!

We shower the kids and put them to bed and crash oursleves!

Next Installment Day Five - First Day at Disney!

Great TR so far! I'm enjoying it very much. We love Bubba Gump's too. We went to the one in Maui. My fave dish is the Accidental Fish -- yum! We're driving from B.C. to Anaheim/San Diego in July and will definitely make a stop at the Bubba Gump's you went to. Your bourbon mahi mahi shrimp sounds delish!

Sounds like so much fun!! I can't wait to hear more. I would love to hear of the crowd levels this time of year. We're thinking of going at the end of Feb. next year.

Thanks!!

I will talk about that in my trip report later. :thumbsup2

We had our alarm clock set for 5:30 am We has PS at Lilo and Stitch Aloha breakfast brunch and we were planning on walking there (yes from the Anahiem Islander in and I will go further into that in my summary) Our alarm clock fried itself in the middle of the night somehow:rolleyes1 (actually I would like to somehow claim the fault of this but the darned thing really did malfunction on its own and had absoutly nothing to do with my life long dream to be awoken by one of those nasty things then get to take a sledge hammer to it and go back to sleep) So Our internal clocks kicked in for us at about 5:45 am and we were off scrambling to get ready and the kids ready and find out how to actually get to the Paridise Pier Hotel. We were in luck the helpful man at the front desk of our hotel gave us a map that proved helpful.

So we walked all the way to the PPH and I must mention that it was a delightful walk! Not to long at all:thumbsup2 . We get to our destination and we are the first ones there! We got some Prime opportunities for our kids to get character interactions! We were first greeted by Minnie Mouse herself!
The setting was relaxed and all the characters came to our table! DS3 was scared of Lilo but loved Stich, Pluto and Stitch were putting on a comedy act stitch was bitting plutos' ears and making him cry my kids were laughing everyone was happy (that was only brief lol) Stitch was picking his nose and ear wax and flicking it onto our children, who were hardly mildly disgusted by it.

I Highly Recommend Lilo and Stitch and I really recommend getting there early for a great experience!

Off we walked towards Downtown disney Or so we thought. At this time my DH tried navigating us and navigated us into the wrong direction that would not lead us into the park. There was a couple that was following us so I bark at him that I don't want the blind leading the blind here and walk towards the entrance of the GCH for a shortcut and the couple followed us laughing and joking with us about the whole situation, but happy I piped in about going the wrong direction.popcorn::

We go throught the GCH and My oh MY I was sooo impressed it was beautiful! I wish we could have stayed there! :lovestruc

This is when one of the children (not sure which one at this point) exclaimed that a potty break was in order. So we visit our first DLR potty The automatic flushing toilets really impressed them (it's not like they have never seen auto flush toilets before but maybe the DLR are sooo super loud that it caught their attention enough to advertise a huge WOW and excitement over - I really do take these children out occasionally--really:rolleyes: )

So we try to navigate our way to DTD throught the GCH We get out the doors right by Club Libby Lu. The girls scream with glee about how excited they are about the place, but I have to let them down and reminding them that It is Tuesday and They are not going to CLL until Monday:laughing: It was fun to see them get all excited about it thought I must admit!

She there we are Downtown disney and not having a map of DTD we decide to head in the direction of the majority of other people....bad choice they were headed towards what we now know to be the Disneyland hotel. So off we go towards to Other end of DTD and We finally make it....to the security bag check line. We stupidly stand behind some family that looked like they were in line after about five minutes we realize they were just loitering and there was no security guard there so we moved to another line.

We get the the HUGE line ups at the Disneyland gates and wait, and wai, and wait..........The weather was threatening rain all day and it was a bit chilly, but it was still way warmer then our-30 degrees clecius back home. We were jacketless and and enjoying the warmth but sad that there was no sun!

Finally the gates open and the line moves very fast.

After the gates DH decides we need a map, good one old man I say! Only to have to wait 20 minutes for him to find one, in the meanwhile I am left to stronghold 4 children that spot the Big Cheese himself! This started a bit of an arguement between my DH and I as I doubt it takes 20 minutes to grab a map and I knew he got sidetracked by something....sure enought I was right....other Canadians he met and just had to make conversation with! I barked at him he barked back at me I barked back how dare he bark at me as I was the one trying to contain 4 children alone! Off we head towards fantasyland and all was forgotten!

Our first DLR ride was Dumbo, we thought that this would be okay to DS7 boy were we wrong he looked at it and started screaming bloody murder...you know the kind of scream that children occasionally produce that would make one understand why hampsters eat there young (not support it but understand it) Well we go on the ride and DS7 decides to "try" it only to once again come off the ride exclaiming how much he loved it and wanted to ride it again.

We were not to sorry to break his heart that was the only time we got on that ride ther whole time we were there.

After explaining to DS7 that his fits were unacceptable and that if he didn't change his attitude about the rides that he would have to be left at the hotel (meaning DH and I would have to take turns who stays at the hotel with him for the morning and who has to switch for the afternoon.) After this explaination DS7 decided to try to be a little more cooperative.

That aside we headed on towards the teacups and Alice , the matterhorn bobsleds were a hit! Especially with DS7 (surprise and thank goodness no head turning fits thrown).

We then go to Peter pan's flight only to be detured by the really long line up and head towards Space mountain for fast passes. We then go to check out Toontown only to be really disappointed most of the rides were shut down for the majority of the day. We immediatly left and headed towards pirates! Pirates Lair was open that day but we never made it there.

We all loved the POTC ride and when we past BB the kids were really excited when I told them we would be eating there on our trip not that day but soon;)

We grabed FP for splash for later

We went back to space mountain. I have to say that the FP and child swap combo is a good thing for this ride. They allowed us to use three fp in which me, DD8, and DN10 went first and then DH and DS7 switched. and since we had 3 fp left we could do it a second time so one round of fp equalled two rides for us!:thumbsup2

DS7 was very leary of the ride. We discovered though the less we talk about a ride and the more he has to discover for himself the better:3dglasses Turned out that SM was one of his faves. Everyone else really liked it. I liked it the first few times but have since decided It is not even close to being a fave of mine. Oh and I really didn't like the matterhorn bobsleds! It just threw me around too much! I will need to make a visit to my chiro after this trip because of that ride:scared:

So we then go back to the matterhorn as the kids loved it::sick: and then we went to critter's corner for splash. FP were not needed here. I think since we are well seasoned to the cold and most folks were definatly not acustomed to it like we are made a great combo for us! We go to walk on this ride and ride twice each time we went through No line ups!!!:cool1: So since DS 3 was too little (often the story for him on a lot of rides!) Dh and I would switch. I took the older three (including DS7 who whimpered a bit but after changing the subject to the brer bear. brer rabbit, and brer fox story line he suddlenly became quite interested and even was laughing while on the ride and wanted to go on again...I know it was a common theme with that child fear the ride , be forced to ride the ride, Love the ride so much that we have to drag the boy away:confused3 ) While we were on splash Dh took DS3 on the pooh ride. I got off and we switched. I took DS3 on the pooh ride (He loved this ride!) twice there was no line up here either! (this was the day after President's Day) We figured the cold scared everyone away...later to discover it was the parade that did it (at least from the pooh ride splash was dead all night)

So after 3 rides of the Pooh ride DH comes out of splash while DS3 and I were loading on again to pooh he yells that he is going to go again.... so DS and I go once more on the pooh ride and wait, and wait, and wait and wait...........:rolleyes1 .....................................popcorn:: ..................................... ...............................................................   DS3 and I were getting impatient...well okay I was getting impatient DS3 was just restless! We go back on to Pooh and ride 2 more times.....get off then wait and wait and wait.

DH and the older children finally get off the ride DS3 is asleep and I am steaming...it turns out that the CM's let them ride continuosly then DH finally checks his watch only to realize opps Harlie and DS3 are still waiting. I was mad but who can stay mad at disney?:wizard:
So DH took DS3 and the older kids and I went back on Splash a few times and then headed back to space and then we were sooooooo hungry and cranky everyone was having low blood sugar fits we get to DTD and then check out Tortillia Joe's there was a bit of a wait even though the restuarant seemed very empty and when our food came as hungry as we were we were all too tired to eat! We harldy touched our food and the bill was high!

We walk back to the hotel via the route that we took earlier (through GCH- AKA the really long route after a long, long , long day!) I tried to tell DH there was a better way (aka - short way, more time saving way) but he did not listen to me.:headache: and I was tired of arguing

We get to the hotel shower the kids and get them to bed. shower ourselves (I have not yet mentioned that we too are showering  lol) load up the laptop to check the next days forcast.....heavy rain...oh poo!

Next...Day Six - a change of plans due to weather!

Coming from Saskatchewan what did you think about the 5 level freeways. I use to think Wascana Bridge was a big thing until I moved to a big city. Anyway, last Thurs when we were on a tour and on the top level of a freeway the bus driver must have noticed I was getting a little dizzy and he turned around and said, if you're getting motion sickness just do like I do and close your eyes when we're on this top level.:rotfl2: I actually didn't find it bad driving, just the amount of traffic and the number of freeway decks were unnerving.

Oh, and I did see Saskatchewan people. On Fri. the 22nd when waiting to get into DL I saw a guy with a hat and another with a jersey. This became the theme for the week.

The leveled Freeways didn't bother me so much as the ballsy drivers that felt the need to tailgate you while traveling 130 km/hour, or people loosing part of their car on the freeway and it nearly causing my family's early demise. Actually Driving here in Regina doesn't bother me at all. I think the worst area for bad driver's though is right on ring road by the exit for SIAST and the U of R, but that comes with its own explaination.:teacher:

If you saw a jersy it wasn't us. My DS7 was wearing his Rider hat at leat 2 of the 5 days we were there. My DS3 was probally more recognisable with his nemo hat! :thumbsup2

On this day we were suposed to be going to DLR but we were scared away by "heavy rains". We figured that since we planned on a Shopping a the outlet malls on that upcomming Saturday that we would switch.

So Day six became a shopping day!:cool1: We choose to go to the Ont. Mills outlet mall. We had PS at Rainforest Cafe that night and we were not sure if we could make iit but we were planning on it.

We slept it thinking we wanted to avoid the morning rush our traffic. Well I was still not used to Cali drivers at this point when DH announce that "Hey I am beginning to like driving the freeways!" When i mummble something back about having him committed:rolleyes1

We get there and we start our day off at Friends 2B Made. This was suposed to be for the girls but somehow our DS7 and DS7 decided that they wanted to play with dolls and make their own too.....whatever we are so drained at this point there is just no fighting it:upsidedow . So the kids had the place to themselves! and we sat back and waited to pay for it all!:happytv:

Then shortly after that DN10 wanted to check out the Abercrombie and Fitch for kids store. She purchased 3 tops there and was quite proud of herself. The biggest hit was a store called Journey's kids they had DC shoes there for kids and DN10 has been dying to get a pair of DC's that are her size, she just had to have them and they were on her feet before she could say my money is all gone lol! DH on the other hand was obsessed with those stupid heely's shoes. DD8 got a pair for her birthday 2 years ago and they were worn 3 times and she is soooooooo lacking coordination and the fact that we have snow here from Nov till april...sometimes earlier and sometimes later I think these things are just a waste of money for kids who's feet just grow to fast. We had a big discussion and he won this one. DS7 and DD8 now have new heely's and won't get to wear them until school's out lol! They were only $39 where here they are $129 so it was a good deal and that is the only reason why DH won this fight lol!

We find out there is a Rainforest Cafe at this mall and decided it would just be easier to go there instead of battling rush hour traffic back. The bill was only $50 and that was for 6 people!! Seriously I think we saved some major cash by going to this other one. the food was good the kids like the atmosphere and I walk out of there with a new Hoodie!:woohoo: (paid for of course)

We finish up our shopping and then head back to the hotel to hose down....err shower the children and ourselves and check the next day's forecast!

More showers:sad2: Oh well!

Next up Day Seven - Knott's Berry High.....followed by MT Dinner Theatre!

So Today back to the rides! We get to the park thinking that it will be a slow day....boy we were wrong! It was High School Physics Goes to Knott's day!

The Teens were .....teens. We really wanted to try Ghostrider first. I was set to go with the girls but after DS7 threw a tantrum DH decided to go with the kids first. DH asks me to wait there. He was thinking the ride could not have been to busy. So I wait......wait......wait......wait........wait...... oh look those people went in after my dh and they are done.....wait....wait.....wait......wait.... after 2 yes 2 hours with a restless 3 year old and a very annoyed Harlie DS3 and I were still waiting and I was fuming mad. i left and then started to look around I saw a blacksmith putting on a show that was amusing and funny and DS3 was enjoying it. I cool off my temper a bit and go back....wait....wait......wait..... They are still not done and the people I saw get on right before DH and the older kids have now riden 3 times! I was on fire I was so mad! 20 mins after that point off they come and they are all smiles and then they see me:mad: and DS3:scared: (who was screaming and throwing a fit!) What took them so long?? they wanted to ride the front of the coaster!:headache: DH and I got into a big fight because he didn't think it was a big deal that I had to wait nearly 3 hours (park was only open for 6 hours) with a bored and antsy ;and cranky 3 year old. I wanted to leave. He wouldn't let us:mad: After wasting a bunch of time trying to cool off my bad mood we had lunch blood sugars were back up and then the girls and boys went there own way. They boys did baby rides, the girls did everything else.

The girls were acting silly and soon all was normal (not forgotten). We left shortly before the park closed as I miss read the time for our MT feast. I thought 4o'clock but it was five.

By the time we got there is was getting really cold outside and everyone was hungrey again and DS3 was pretty cranky and I was still holding a grudge with DH(bad I know but he pulls crap like this all the time on me). Dh trying to suck up by making me laugh was starting to work.

MT was Great! The kids Loved our team and did a great job at cheering for it (Yellow and red) They loved geering and booing the green one and the reactions from the green guy they would get for it.

We had gotten the royalty package for and extra $10 and it was a good upgrade :thumbsup2

MT was probally my kids Fave meal of all this whole trip. The food was nothing special. Our Team knight gave DD8 a sash and she felt really special. They took a picture of her and we bought that as a special souvienir for her.

We would totally do MT again! Knott's probally not.

Day Eight - DLR Day 2
