It all started innocently enough, I was out walking my 4 month old puppy so she could go to the bathroom before we put her in her cage and go eat. She's a little whip and loves to chase cars so I have been nagging on the kids to make sure they always hold tight onto her leash. I never thought I'd have to worry about myself. Somehow the leash slipped out of my hands and in sheer panic I started to chase her. No cars were coming and if I was using my rational mind, I would have yelled "come" and run the other way so she would chase me, but like I said panic had set in and all I could picture was her running out into the road as a car flew down the street. Anyway I was able to step on her leash but because I was in a semi run I lost my footing and fell foward and stepped on her little leg. She yelped and wouldn't stand up. As the tears were running down my face I scooped her up and brought her into the garage and put her down. She wouldn't put her leg down so I was sure I had broken her leg. Dh was trying to check on her and calm me down so that I could get the number to the emergency Vet. I called and I'm not even sure she understood me between my sobs but gave her all our info and was on my way. I grabbed her blanket and her favorite toy, and a bunch of kleenex  I go outside to get her and she's running around the yard chasing the kids like nothing ever happened. It turns out I did hurt her, but thankfully there is nothing broken, swolen or anything just a few skin burns on her that I think came from my flip flop. So I had to call the Vet back and let them know that I totally over-reacted and that she appeared to be fine but I would keep my eye on her and bring her in at the first sign of anything. She was very understanding and told me this kind of stuff happens all the time, but I'm thinking she thought I was a lunatic and she was just trying to make me feel better. I hope I never have to make a call like that again!

Aww, you're not a bad doggie mama. I'm glad your puppy is okay.

 You're a GOOD dog Mama!! You were going to take her to the vet!

And don't worry, I know my vet has "Sunnyday is a crazy loon" conversations all the time.

Eta: You do have to make sure you get the chasing cars under control-you don't ever want her to do that.

Yes we are definitely working on that. When I was young (long ago when people's dogs used to roam around) I saw a dog chase a car and get hit. It still haunts me to this day.

This reminds me of a story my Dad tells

Back when my mom was preg with me my dad had to babysit my older sister (I guess about 1 1/2 yrs old) while mom was at a Dr's appt.
They were wrestling around and he inadvertantly hurt her arm, she cried and cried and would not move her arm.
He takes her to the emergency room and is sitting with her for what seems like hours ( but I'm thinking exagerating a bit here) and sister falls asleep. When finally called into be examined they wake her up and check her arm, she moves it without a single whimper.
As dad tells the story sis wakes up and forgot her arm was hurt, and dad is forgiven.

So doggy mama I'm sure your baby has already forgiven and forgotten.

Aw, hugs to you and pats to her! I was once playing around with my collie and my (shoeless) foot came up at the same time his long muzzle was coming down. The sound was sickening, and I thought for certain I'd broken his jaw. He yelped...and then two minutes later had forgotten the whole thing -- while I ended up with a massive, painful bruise covering my entire foot!

Glad you're both okay.

ohh...don't feel bad. I used to work at a Vet office, I can't tell you how many phone calls we used to get about a dog who didn't put any weight on their leg, and then came in running on all 4!!
In fact, I was over my SIL's house one day when her dog really did break her leg and it was getting close to closing time at the Vet. I made the call and had to explain that I really did thing the dog broke her leg and to please see her right away.

Well I think I have a good doggie story. My Morkie was just a puppy - got him at 12 weeks and we brought him home and everything is fine. He still had his puppy teeth and his dog tooth grew behind his puppy tooth and there was green stuff all around both teeth - look like some kind of infection. I called the vet all in a panic and got him in that day - it was a Saturday as I was off. Took him in, vet looked at him and pulled whatever he was chewing on off his teeth - talk about feeling stupid. It smelled horrible also, that is why I thought it was infection. He didn't charge me for the visit thank god but made me make an appointment to have him fixed. I was thinking of breeding him but I did make the appointment to have him fixed. He is now three and I don't panic as much as I used too, even though he was not the only dog but he was much smaller than our Aussie.

What kind of leash was it? I use leather which is non slip. If you do not have a 6ft leather leash I highly recommend it.:thumbsup2
