Not much going on here right now. We took the boys for portraits yesterday. They came out really cute.
Dave's parents are here right now, so I'm back at my parents' house for a bit. I'll probably stay through at least the end of next week. I see the hand specialist again on Monday. Hard to tell if there's any improvement, since I've been lifting Ronan and doing a lot of housework over there. Maybe by the end of this week, I'll have seen some improvement if I'm careful with it. My ribs seem to be back to normal now.

Stacey - the first couple of days have been fine. I think I'll like it. True test will be the beginning of next month when we do month end close. Like anything it will just be learning a routine.

Checking in again after being AWOL for a few days. Did the last of school shopping so that's one thing off my list! Work has been extremely hectic. I have 2 staff that have been out sick more than at work and it has thrown me into overload! Not to begrudge anyone using their sick time but not the best timing. Our agency is going through some major changes that has everyone on edge. Most likely we'll see some layoffs and they seem to be firing people left and right! In the 22 yrs that I have been there I've never seen anything like it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and nose clean (well, most of the time)

Irene: did you get Alexa's note? She asks me every day.

Jim, Bruce is training for his 1st marathon. I would love for him to do the Disney one & he even mentioned it but it would be too hard with the kids in school. He's planning on doing one in Huntsville in Dec. then the one in New Orleans with his brother in Feb/March (can't remember which month). If we're not busy with Nutcracker we'll all go to Huntsville & I'll take the girls to the space facility there.

Things are looking up for Ashley. I may wind up liking her teacher after all but the jury is still out. I emailed Ashley's teacher on the first day of school about her reading placement. She emailed back that day & said that she would monitor but that she could already tell she was a great reader. Then on Thursday there was a meeting for parents of Talented & Gifted (TAG) kids. I went to that meeting for Emily. At the end a few parents were asking how younger kids get tested for TAG. I stayed afterward & talked to the TAG teacher about Ashley & explained her situation. She said that she'd try to follow-up with the cirriculum support teacher. When I got home I emailed her all of Ashley's state standarized test scores. She emailed back to say that she had already looked at Ashley's scores & followed-up with the CST. On Friday I got an email from Ashley's teacher saying she is moving her to advanced reading/language arts. Not sure if was the 2nd grade teacher's doing or the TAG teacher. Now I'll email the TAG teacher to see if she can be TAG tested. Now that she's in adv. placement she should qualify for testing.

On Sunday I will have been here a month, I think.
In some ways it feels like forever, and in others it doesn't seem long at all. I can't stand the thought of leaving the babies, but I am really missing home. I'll stay until Megan is able to lift Ronan....another week and a half, I think.

I'm glad it looks like it's going to work out well for Ashley. Time will tell...and good for you for stepping up!

I WISH that was true! My youngest brother's IQ is much higher than mine or my other two siblings. My Dad was a Counselor so he shared that information with us. I am not sure which of us that was supposed to motivate.

Jim and Matt are currently driving from Minneapolis where the great Bike Duathalon took place between them and Michigan. From Matt's text, he won on time, but his Dad won the actual bet. Jim received a 5 minute handicap. The loser (Matt) now has to pay for dinner tonight. I wonder which restaurant Jim will chose.


Once they are in Michigan, they will be starting their 5 100 mile bike trek from Lansing to Mackinac. I am sure they will have a great time during their current "Boys Trip".

Good Morning All - checking in after a long hiatus....Not sure how I let that happen, so apologies all around.

First, a small update from us.

We are now the proud owners of a new truck. Not planned but it was time to replace the 2002 faithful stead. Same make, same model but new. Now I hope that the car will be fine for a few more years.

We've added a walking routine most days. Sam has joined me for our 4 mile jaunt in the mornings. I miss it when I am not able to hit the pavement, such as today. Dedicated I may be but not in the pouring rain. Saturday we decided to walk to our Starbucks, inside the Target. This is not a good budget move since the garden department is on close-out and the walk resulted in a few unbudgeted purchases. (I am not spending money, I am helping the economy )

And speaking of helping the economy, we too are off to Food and Wine at Disney. This year we are staying with points and while we will miss those of you who are attending - due to different schedules, we will be able to meet up with some other fellow cruisers - There is a new event this year, the Wine and Dine Classic at the Swan and Dolphin. It should be fun.

Mother turned 90 this year and I was able to host my first Birthday party for her. It was a High Tea, ladies only. Sam helped with the cooking but he and a friend who was staying with us disappeared on the day of the event. Now that the tea is over and the truck is purchased, I can get back to normal things, like the photos from the July Cruise. Has it been this long?

School starting - Good Luck Kids. and for the parents . Not much to add on the various posts about the teachers, lesson plans, books and all associated with the tribulations and trials of a new school year. Well, other than "things have changed."

Marathons - while Disney only has one true marathon, they do have other races. some more fun based than others...at least they used to. Good Luck to Bruce for his training. Wish I were that dedicate. Of course, I hate to run.

Major changes at work - good luck to all of you who are going through the tough times right now. It is hard. We need to all pull together which is easier said than done. Which is why we have not been diving lately. Sam has to work, and therefore there is no time to dive. I'll miss seeing the Goliath Grouper this year....maybe next?

Tomorrow is a big day in the Terry household. Alexa starts school (5th grade) and.....drumroll please!!......Jim starts a new job. It has been 5 months since he has worked and he is thrilled to be back in the game. He is working a contract position at Ford in their commercial chassis department. I hope this will last a long time. Although I was getting used to making things work with less money, it is definitely much less stressful now. Another piece of good news: our tablemates from the July cruise are coming to see us this weekend. They are from Toronto so not exactly close but maybe 4 hrs away. They have 3 girls so the house will be filled with lots of estrogen! I am sure we will be reliving lots of cruise memories and hopefully making more.

Back from a whirlwind 5 days in Chicago celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. Ate way too much but I managed to hit all of my "must have" list - I think my facebook status updates consisted of nothing but food... Stayed over an extra day to take in a Cubs game with my dad and brother. It was my first night game at Wrigley and we also got rooftop tickets, also a first - that was a lot of fun, really nice, and a great view.

Suzanne....congrats to both Jim and Alexa! I hope their new ventures are working well for both of them.

Obviously busy here. Megan was doing pretty well after being hospitalized, until today when she's started having pain again. I haven't talked to her tonight, I'm back at my Mom's since Dave is home with her on the weekends. My plan was to fly home this coming Wednesday, but if she's not doing better, I may extend it another week.

Had a fun thing happen today that NEVER happens in Arizona. My mom and I were in a local discount store and we ran into my niece and her family. Really strange for me to be wandering along and have someone grab me and give me a hug!! What a nice surprise. I am definitely going to miss seeing my family when I go home. My extended family, that is.

today's weather was better than yesterday. We froze our butts off at the Renaissance Festival. Had fun but definitely a reminder that Fall is right around the corner.

We had our tablemates from the cruise over for the weekend from Toronto. Had a blast. They were here 48 hours and we squeezed in a ton of fun...reminded us of the cruise schedule. Tomorrow is cleanup day and then it's back to work and school.

Good Morning All...I have been a bit AWOL lately, sorry about that - no excuses. And not much happening with us. Mostly the same ole, same ole....work, walk, sleep, chores, play with pets.....No kids, so no school stories for us. No fish either Best of luck to those who are getting back to the routines.

Sounds like we have some baseball fans here. Me, I'm glad that football season has started, although not the best start for my team, that is for sure.

We had a quiet Labor Day. Sam was laboring, and I was in the kitchen preparing a Seafood feast for Mother's picnic.

My summer bowling league is over - I did enjoy it and like a bike, you can get right back into the swing of things with a little practice. I am happy to report that my average improved over time, but I still think Bowling is God's game to teach humility. I did watch one bowler bowl 10 (yes ten) strikes in a row. He was on his way to a 300.......Ball 11 was 9 pins down with one wiggle. Still seeing a 289 being bowled live....(PS we did not bowl against that team. Good thing...He bowls more in one game then we do in 2....

I'm back!!!!!!

It's taken me a while to recover from my "last man standing" trip with Matthew. Personally, I think I rocked.

We started with a 18 mile time trial (a beat the clock race). As Sharon reported, Matt beat me by 31 seconds but with my 5 minute handicap he bought dinner. Of course it was a small barbeque place. I'm thrilled because I placed first in my age group.

After that we made our way to Michigan for the DELMAC bike tour, 500 miles in 5 days. The weather was not all that great, but got nasty for only two of the days. Several weeks ago after doing a run in 95 degrees I swore I would not complain if the bike ride was cold. I did not have 51 degrees in mind.

We felt fine for the whole ride. I continued to be amazed at what the body can do. We saw a whole lot of Michigan from farm land to pine forest. All of it so much different than Florida.

But the really exciting new is that Lisa earned her Advanced Open Water Certification in August. She is now talking about getting her cavern certification.

But that is not as exciting as Lisa getting contacted by several schools for gymnastics. She is now in the time frame where schools can talk to her. Its all very early, but it sure if fun to have schools show interest.

But that is not nearly as exciting as the really big news. I lasted longer then the family thought, but I finally caved. Today we picked up my new running buddy (I hope), Clover. Clover is an 8 month black lab mix who has been at a rescue shelter. She is about 45 pounds and is a medium size for a lab.

Today is her first day here and everything has gone well. She has just put herself to bed in her crate. I wish I could have taught my kids that. Tomorrow she begins her exercise program. We will see what she has in those legs.

It's not a great picture, but I'm not willing to wake her up for a better one.

Hi folks, what a cute puppy Jim. You need to be kind to Clover - she may not be used to running her cute little paws off.

We had a milestone today - First time to bathe the new cat. No pictures, I would not do that to her, but I think she has finally forgiven me. She is looking more like a true persian blue and cream cat. I still wonder who threw her out. But I am glad she wandered down our house.

Congrats to Lisa on her Advanced Open Water - is there a trip to Key Largo in the future?
