Il Mulino …still the finest Italian in WDW…

While we absolutely love Via Napoli for their pizza BUT we absolutely love Il Mulino for everything else Italian, well my dd may argue about that when it comes to the Arancini :goodvibes and the lack of fingerling roasted potatoes available (or maybe they were but didn't realize) but other than that, there is no competition when it comes to signature Italian in WDW.

I will try to make this short and sweet with a few photos and you can read the expanded version on my website if you would like. I'll post the link at the end of this quick review.

First up was the complimentary Eggplant Tappenade and Dry Pork Sausage, neither which would excite me by name but like many of the other delicatables I've tried at some of the finest WDW restaurants I knew I had to try this and since it looked so fresh I just dug in and it didn't disappoint. There combination of the salty meat and the coolness of the tappanade made for a wonderful topping on the crusty bread that is served along with it. (don't tell anyone but I ate all of it by myself!!)

DD insisted on ordering the Arancini after trying it for the first time a few months ago at Via Napoli. Unfortunately the sauce was much spicier than we would have expected. I'm sure there was a lot of pepper and garlic in it and it was pretty much immersed in it. I actually like the spice but dd is not into spice past mild salsa.:rolleyes2 She did have some of it that didn't hit the sauce though. They were lightly crispy on the outside with a delicious risotto/potato/cheesy filling inside...

I had the Trattoria Salad which is a simple mixed greens salad with some veggies with a nice light citrus vinaigrette.

For my entree I went for the Pappardelle after seeing a video review right here on the DIS…I was literally salivating when I watched the video and knew we had to go back here and I had to have this dish and I'm telling you it was the best pasta I have EVER had ANYWHERE.

I just can't explain how amazing it was. The texture is almost indescribable, it had a "bite" yet it was so tender. This pasta is made FRESH everyday, sliced into ribbons, boiled in salt water for just a few minutes and topped with freshly made tomato basil sauce. It just doesn't get any fresher than this!! My only mistake is that I went for 1/2 a portion…should have gotten the full sized portion. (honestly the photo doesn't even do it justice)

DD went for the kid's chicken parm which is what she likes. She plays it safe but this time around she actually tasted some of mine and was so disappointed she didn't order it too. Actually we should have just gotten a full size Pappardelle and the chick pram and split both, but now we know for next time. Her chick parm was a large portion but there's no pasta that accompanies it. She did enjoy it but it was a bit dry this time around.

I know I said short and sweet but it's so difficult not to go into full descriptions.:bitelip: I have even more details in my full review with more photos of the food as well as the restaurant itself. There is also an older review with photos and these same dishes are still available along with the desserts. Feel free to check it out:

Thank you for the wonderful review. I'm actually going there in October for the 1st time and can't wait but now you have me thinking about getting the pappardelle instead of the penne rigate or the rigatoni con funghi :confused3 I need to make up my mind early on or I'll never decide bahaha!! At least I have it narrowed down to 3 and I think either meatballs or chicken parm to go with the pasta ooooh let me not forget the chocolate flourless cake your dd got the first time yumm!!

I don't normally order a simple pasta with red sauce when I go out for Italian but after watching that video I had to try it and I'm telling you, nothing like it! I love the Tortellini dish too but it doesn't come close - it was like eating complete decadence!! If you're thinking about a pasta dish you must try it--you can always do a 1/2 order of that and a 1/2 order of another.:goodvibes Next time I will have to have that flourless cake again (if I can eat all that because I am DEFINITELY going for that FULL order of the Pappardelle next time LOL!:thumbsup2 ENJOY!! (now I'm getting hungry thinking about it::yes::)

I can't wait to go. I really waffled between here and Bluezoo but the person I'm going with really loves veal!! I like good italian food but like you usually do not get pasta with a red sauce because I'm picky about red sauces, I usually go with blush :goodvibes

I just found a great discount for Il Mulino, Kimonos' Bluezoo & Shulas at this website orlandoconventionaid.com I'm extremely happy now 20% off :cool1:
