If you had to choose between these two for dinner, which would it be? We've never been to either and right now we just can't decide!

We have not tried A&C yet but Il Mulino is our favorite and we eat there every trip. It is some of the best Italian we have tried and all of our kids love it too. I keep booking A&C and then canceling. I just don't love the menu. Others say it is very good though!

Il Mulino is always a must do for us each trip.
We like Ale and Compass and occasionally dine there.

It's Il Mulino by default because I don't care much about about Ale & Compass. From a New Yorker's viewpoint though, with Il Mulino a 40 minute drive away from Queens, it's kinda like going very far for something that I can experience close to home.

I ate at both places in September. Il Mulino was far superior in my opinion.

We've never eaten at either, but we are making the same decision about where to eat the first night while staying at the Swan. Would recommend asking yourself what type of dining experience you're looking for. We wanted something a bit more casual since it's the first night and we have several other fine dining experiences planned.

Both are very nice, high end dining rooms but accept people in casual clothes.

Everything we have tried at Il Mulino has been excellent! Ale & Compass was just okay for us.

This is good to know. We were thinking A + C was a bit more casual than it actually is. Perhaps we need to stick with Beaches and Cream or River Grille.

I think Ale and Compass has a lounge which is more casual.

My husband and I love Il Mulino. We are local, but when we staycation we always fit in a meal there. We usually just sit at the bar and have drinks and dinner. My favorite drink is the Testarossa. It’s one of those drinks that sneaks up on you 😳 I can’t remember her name at the moment, but one of the bartenders that works Saturday nights makes one of the best Margaritas I have ever had. All from scratch…no premixed stuff from a jug.

I love that drink! It’s my favorite too.

We ate at both two weeks ago. I’ll Mulino was awesome. I had veal parmigiana and I have never seen a veal so big. It covered the whole plate. It was done very well. I ordered a child’s pasta that I didn’t need as a side. The service was great and our server even gave us an after dinner drink. It’s a little pricey but a great dining experience. Really first rate. Ale and Compass was ok. No complaints just ok.

Il Mulino is very expensive for what you get. Tratorria al Forno was MUCH better. If you like sushi, I would highly recommend Kimonos at the Swan. Likewise, we were not blown away by Ale and Compass. Very slow service and food was mediocre.

Big River Grill is also average. Gee, I seem to be the only critic here of Il Mulino. To be fair, it was a number of years ago that we were there. Maybe it has improved.

Do you have a recommendation along the Board Walk you would prefer instead? My wife is not a sushi person, so don’t know that Kimonos will work.
