Was wondering if anyone knows yht chances of getting a trade to Aruba september 2009, wich would be our honeymoon!!! Was wondering if anyone has had succes at the Mariott's or Renassaince?? How long should I wait because there was no immediate availabilty, I do have a search going. I was planning to give it a little time, and then if nothing comes through, just rent out our DVC points and book Aruba separelty! Any infor or suggestions appreciated!! Thanks!

I would give it some time, I would think that you would have a good chance depending on what size accomodations you are requesting. We are Marriott owners and the newer property there is quite large and September is a quieter time for Aruba. There is probably no availablity yet because only Marriott owners that own multiple weeks can reserve 13 months out, Marriott owners that own one week can reserve 12 months out so that is the earliest time that they could deposit into II.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and honeymoon! We went on our honeymoon to Aruba almost five years ago and stayed at the Marriott resort there (right next to the vacation club properties) and it was wonderful! Beautiful resort, great weather, wonderful sunsets, very romantic! (Prompted our vacation club purchase.) I can't speak to the Renaissance there, but the Ocean Club and Surf Club are right on the beach within walking distance to a number of good restaurants located in the adjacent hotels. Good luck with your trade!

I agree, your chances of getting a trade are excellent if you request now, esp if it's for a 1 BR or less but even for a 2 BR. I'd simply ask for the Marriott's if it were I. You'll need to wait till at least 6 months out to expect confirmation. You may get something sooner but should not expect it. You can always book a cancelable hotel as a backup and then narrow your search one you have air booked.

ok the other issue is, i am trying to use my points from use year Dec 2007 that are banked to the Dec 2008 use year. So if i dont get a confirmation at like 6 months out will that give me enough time to be able to rent those points out, because they would expire Nov 30, 2009. Correct? I just want to be able that the points are used one way or another! Sorry for all the questions, kind of new at this! Thanks again!

POnts for an exchange come from the UY where the exchange occurs. In this case Sept 2009 is in the Dec 2008 UY so you should be OK. You could even make a reservation with the points then cancel it if you get an exchange. Or you could do a deposit first and give yourself more options in the future. If you decide to go that route, get back to me as I want to make sure you understand the risks involved related to the number of points you deposit.

ok, I put the search in, but havent deposited any points yet. When i talked to memeber services, they said I could use the banked points, that i banked this use year,(DEC 07-nov08) My use year is december, so the points I just banked this past july, are from 2007 UY. I just want to make sure I use these points, cause they will expire on nov 30,2009. So I was saying lets say the exchange doesnt come through say 6 months out from my travel date in September 2009. That would put me at march, I will probably be better off cancelling search and renting out the points, would that be enough time to get the points rented out, being that they expire end of Nov. I dont think i would deposit them unless, they were going to expire as a last case scenario. I would rather rent them out. I know if you deposit them to II you have 2 years to travel and use the points correct. thanks again!!

Are you sure you want to go to Aruba in Sept.??? Maybe Aruba isn't so prone to hurricanes because it's so close to S. America, but I would be leary of any vacation to an island during hurricane season...simply because there's no way to get "out of dodge". My daughter is getting married in October, and they decided to go on a cruise instead of a caribbean destination figuring the ship could be rerouted if something came up. I'm not meaning to be a downer on your plans, but I thought it worth mentioning...good luck with whatever you decide.

You should definitely get your Aruba exchange. There are a huge amount of units available for Sept. 2008, so I'm thinking September isn't a big month for Aruba. Since it below the hurricane belt, you should have a fantastic time. It will be nice and peaceful for your honeymoon. Enjoy!

You can use the points if you get the exchange (you likely will) but you need to plan in case you do not get the exchange. It's 2 years from the date of the week DVC gives II but it's more complicated than that for deposit first.

If you get it make sure it is a resort on Palm Beach not the other side. It is beautiful. We spent the last week in September there for our honeymoon. It was perfect- always sunny!!

Just to second the earlier comments, Aruba is out of the hurricane belt which makes it a wonderful Caribbean location for fall honeymoons. We went in early October for eleven days and it rained one day for an hour and a half.

Both the Marriott properties are on Palm Beach. I agree that is our preferred location too. It's beautiful and is both relaxing and has a lot to do in terms of water sports, daytrips, etc.

I know so what I am saying is, say I wait until 6 months out until my travel date, wich is september 2009, so that would be march, instead of depositing those points to II, would there be enough time to rent them out, being they expire Nov 30, 2009. I know depositing them into II with out a confirmation opens a whole new more complicated process. So basically if i do not get an exchange i want to rent the points out! Just want to know when I should wait until, to get that exchange to be able to have enough time to rent those points out. this is all a backup plan! or in case i dont get the exchange.
thanks everyone for your replies!!!

thanks chicagodisfan, I thought it was below the hurricane belt. I dont want to go anywhere in september that there is a great chance of a hurricane, so i figured aruba was a perfect candidate. back in 2005 we went to cancun in july and were lucky to be there during a hurricane(not really!!!) and let me say it was an expierience and not the greatest one. We have gone away the end of July early august for years before that, and never had any problems, but once something like that happens to you, you now always think of those 3 days being stuck in the middle of a hurricane, when it comes to going away to a caribbean destination during the wonderful hurricane season.

You seem to have the proper feel for the process. However, if you're comfortable with the rental process, I'd start it earlier, possibly even now. You can get a rental much cheaper than the comparable DVC points, esp for Sept. Good luck.

I am asking if I dont get the exchange, I will probabaly book aruba cash, but say I wait until like march, will I have enought time to rent my 160points out to someone on say the rental board to stay at a DVC resort, since they will expire Nov 30, 2009.

Probably but you'll have more choices and have a better chance at renting if you start earlier. For a 1 BR I can't imagine you won't get an exchange, even for a 2 BR your chances are excellent.
