Ignoring my own advice and stressing about the weather!

Not long ago I was telling another DISer not to sweat the rainy weather forecast for her upcoming trip because it was bound to change.

And here I am, sixteen days out from our trip, getting all anxious! I need someone to talk me down and/or remind me how much fun it'll be, even in the rain!

Our trip is 3/25-3/30 (that last day we'll wake up, eat breakfast, check out, and head home). When I checked the monthly forecast on Accuweather last week, it had the 25th, 26th, and 27th as cloudy, but no rain. Then showers on 28th and thunderstorms on 29th.

Now it has thunderstorms 25th (PM, which is when we'll arrive), 26th (AM & PM), and 27th (AM & PM). The 28th is cloudy, and the 29th is partly sunny.

My biggest issues are making sure to get AK on a day with decent weather (and I'd prefer Epcot on a good weather day too), and getting in the fireworks! Symphony in the Stars is a must see, and IllumiNations is a close second. I really want to see Wishes too, but if I have to sacrifice one to a day it might get rained out, that will be the one (and it makes me sad to say that, but I know my parents want to see the other two).

Any advice? Encouragement? Wisdom? Thanks!!

Don't sweat the rainy weather forecast for your upcoming trip because it is bound to change.

My forecast on weather.com is showing 50% on both Saturday and Sunday 19-20. Yesterday it showed 80% on Saturday and 20% on Sunday. Tomorrow, the forecast will be completely different.

I hope for light rain. Maybe it will manage the crowd size.

It is easy to let the weather "cloud" your fun, but what can you do about it? It is rains or it is pours, put on those ponchos and go on. What else could you do? Stay in the room? Wet parks are more fun than no parks at all.

As frequent summer travelers the only time we get a little concerned is when a tropical system is in the forecast. Otherwise we never worry about Florida's frequent pop up storms. If the weather is unsettled, I usually check the radar periodically during the day, so we know when to take cover.

My last trip the weather report changed daily - hourly at some points!! And Even then it was usually wrong.

Everyday but one had a slight chance of rain and when did it rain? On that one day. And checking the weather report WHILE it was raining, still showed a 0% chance of rain.

Remember that even if it does rain in FL it's rarely an all day soaking rain. And it's common for it to rain at one park and not another. Worrying is just pointless.

Thanks guys!
I have enough experience with weather and weather forecasts that I should know better than to get all wound up about it. But I think it's because this trip has been so important to me, and after planning and planning and PLANNING over the past 8 months, I've always envisioned sunny, lovely days at the parks and by the pool. The weather forecast was a bit of a bummer, and something I can't control. Oh noooo!!! LOL!

Any poncho suggestions? I was researching some on Amazon last night. They have Disney ones (Yellow, have Mickey on them and say "Florida"). I'm torn between buying a bunch of cheapos to wear and toss or getting a nicer one that will hold up and do a better job.

anything beyond 10 days is extremely difficult to predict. And while slightly less difficult during the 10 days, still no guarantees. We've had some very rainy trips and they've all been great trips. Usually it's in the late afternoon, and then its gone.

Orlando weather moves in and out so fast that it's too early to worry. I had a similar forecast for my trip last Fall & actually only had 1 bad weather day. The sky was black and it threatened to storm all day but didn't really open up until late that afternoon. I had a $ store poncho packed with me & an extra pr of dry socks stuffed in my park bag & was happy for both. If you have a small park bag consider packing a waterproof dry bag or sack to put right over it. You can find them at REI or I think even Walmart has a no-name version. They fold up small and can be pack flat in your bag. Makes a big difference for electronics and peace of mind if the sky really does open up and poor. No worries!:-)

A few years ago we were in WDW the last week of March. The week started out 80 and sun. A couple days later we spent the day at the MK in the rain. It was raining when we got up at 7 am and didn't stop until just before Wishes, 10 pm. We put on our dollar store ponchos, used umbrellas and had a great day. I like the dollar store ponchos because at $1 you can toss them out and use a fresh one. That trip we stayed offsite so on our midday break, we put our shoes in the dryer for the evening.

The next day was sunshine again but 70's and very windy. The next day was thunderstorms, all day. We moved to Universal and spent the day in the hotel watching the lightning. At 5:30 we headed to Harry Potter in a light rain. We rode FJ many times with no wait. It was a great first visit to Hogsmeade. The next day is was sunny and 75.

Like I said I like the Dollar store ponchos. I always take at least one per day per person (and until that trip used about 2). The umbrellas were awesome, kept the rain out of our faces. I pack my ponchos in ziploc bags. On our rain day, I would stash the wet poncho in the ziploc when we headed indoors so nothing else got wet.

Any poncho suggestions?
I pack 3 $ store ones & they have been fine except in a heavy rainstorm with wind. Once the wind starts up, they blow up and aren't that great. However, 99% of the time they are perfect. I can reuse it again at least once by draping it over the back of a chair in my room overnight to dry. If raining the next morning, on it goes before I leave the room. Of course, trying to fold them up again to get in the park bag ain't gonna happen :-)

Okay, I think I'll pick up enough dollar store ponchos for us for every day then.

I think another bummer about the rain is that until this week, it seems like it has rained here (eastern NC) for a YEAR straight. Seriously, the ground just starts to dry out and here comes another three solid days of downpours. It's been insane. I'm more in-tuned to the weather because I have horses and a small horse farm, so the weather affects me and them quite a bit. So, the thought of finally going on my much-anticipated WDW trip (after 17 years away), and having it freaking RAIN for the majority of the time, just kind of sucks.

But! Boo hoo! Nothing I can do! LOL!

LOL! I know! I know better than this!! I think I'm just running out of things to obsess over.

Do morning or evening EMH or avoid altogether?
Is 2 table service in 1 day too many?
Will your hotel be ready by 4pm?
Will your favorite ride go down?
What if ME loses your luggage?

Feel better now?

We'll be in Orlando 3/25-3/28, although over at Universal this time. I plan to bring ponchos and have a blast, even in the rain!

In my experience a little rain always helps manage the crods a little. Most locals will just wait until its nice again. But defintiely be prepared with ponchos. And shoes that wont be uncomfortable if they are wet. Especially for kids. Thats the last thing you want is wet socks.

Weather is a worry of mine too. I know it changes daily and hourly there. But u want it to be perfect. Sept 2014 we went and it rained almost every day except animal kingdom day. Was sad we missed fantastic which is our favorite thing. But we wore ponchos and he a great time. Will always remember leaving Hollywood studios and the parking lot was like a pool. Unbelievable

2012 at the end of August, while Hurricane Isaac passed, we were at Disney. It wasn't directly effected but had a few days of rain. We debated not going to the park but there wasn't much to do at the resort either since pool and outdoor activities were not available. So we put on our ponchos and braved out. It was pouring but had a lot of fun. There were virtually no one at Epcot or MK and we basically walked on every ride and character meetings. It is one of the best memories we have and we've done more than +15 WDW last 8 years.

So relax and have fun! You are going to enjoy it no matter what happens.
