Thanks for the info. This year we might have to bring a cooler to Disney. I wasn't sure which to buy.

We have this one. It works pretty well, but it wouldn't ever last for five days on one bag of ice. We used it all last summer for camping and would have to drain the water daily and add more ice if the trip was more than three days long. All in all, it does keep things cold longer than our regular cooler.

oh wow thats a cool idea (haha no pun intended) thanks for sharing, i was looking for a cooler as well!
thanks!

We have two of these coolers. I love them. We use them when we go to the beach-fill it w/ food before we leave and then keep the adult beverages in it when we are there! They really do work :thumbsup2

Almost any decently-sealed cooler will do this if it is packed just right with hard-frozen custom sized block ice or hard-frozen food used as ice. (Frozen in a deep-freeze, not a regular compartment freezer.) Seafood transporters do it all the time. The trick for keeping items cold for long periods is to minimize the amount of air present inside -- solid-core frozen items hold cold the longest.

Regular chipped ice won't stay hard-frozen for 5 days in the very best cooler; too much air getting to too many surfaces. You can prolong the cold effect by placing a thick towel under the lid, though.

You're right! I saw an episode of "Good Eats" where Alton Brown showed how to CORRECTLY pack a cooler and he used a towel!!
