I was blabbering to a co-worker about my cruise - and mentioned I was parasailing - she got this awful look on her face and started telling me about her daughter's parasailing excursion on a cruise - basically- the driver wasn't watching and she along with her parasail was drug UNDER water for quiet some time before he noticed. Luckily, her daughter is athletic and was able to survive it.

Ok, parasailing is on my list of "things to do in my life" and I really wanted to do it in the carribean as this is the first REAL vacation I've ever had (I'm 41) and my first cruise. (ok WDW is a real vacation - but work with me here)

I'm trusting that Disney has partnered with someone who is trained and experienced and this won't happen to me, but it has put a damper on my excitement. :worried: I'm not backing out, but sure would love to hear from some of you that specifically did this on CASTAWAY CAY!!! And I hope you attach alot of smileys to your post - I need them today!!!!

I haven't but...hey...it IS Disney. They take so many precautions with everything else I wouldn't hesitate to book that excursions with them if it was something that I had wanted to do. :) :) :) :)

I have not parasailed at CC but my DH and FIL did on our last cruise.

Yes, DCL does take precautions and are very cautious. Only 3 people were able to parasail when they went out and they were two of the lucky ones. The wind was getting up so they had to cancel the rest of that time period.

My DH and FIL loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

My whole family went parasailing in CC last year and loved it!!!!!!

There are two people working on the boat. One is driving and one is running the parasail. We went out in a group of 8 or 10. DH and DS went tandum and then DD and myself went. I'll tell you now that us girls almost chickened out!
The view was amazing! I wish we would have taken our "toss away" camera with us when we went up. I could have gotten some great shots of the Wonder. The water was very clear but we didn't see any "big fish".
Oh, one more thing. If you are even the slightest bit prone to motion sickness, take Bonine the night before! That little boat was rocking pretty hard towards the end and DD got a little green.

I am a non swimmer and was really scared in 2003. But want my then 9 year old to experience parasailing so I put on a brave face and went up with her. It was incredible. Disney's partner take really good care of people, don't worry about it. This past April, my 7 year old really wanted to parasail (like his big sister did) but since Disney's excursion only goes 8 and up, he went with DH in St. Thomas. DH said the boat and sail were definely older but still had a good time. So, don't worry, go and enjoy.

We did it and loved it!!! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: They were very safety conscious- my dh and I wanted to go separately but they were unwilling to risk it since it was windy, so anyone under 150lbs had to go tandem. One guy (the "captain") drives the boat while another takes care of the set up and watches the parasailers. Also, the dunking is pretty much optional on cc's parasailing. They only did it for fun (and only to the people who wanted to be dunked). The guys noticed that I was pretty scared (going up and coming down) so we were pretty much the only ones in our group who stayed dry :) .

Do it,it was great we went 7/4/04 and it is excellent i took my digital camera up with me and got some great shots, the man running the line ask me if i wanted to get wet i told him no because of the digital camera so i stayed dry
but my son got wet, they lowered him into the water and pulled him back up he said it was great my group of 8 had a blast go and dont worry enjoy yourself

Thanks! I knew the DISers would come through for me!!!
And with lots of smileys too!!!
I will try to take a camera up with me and post it as my DCL picture of the day - so I can verify I didn't chicken out!! lol! :Pinkbounc

Glad I saw this thread....I too am in my 40's and never parasailed but always had wanted to....I never had a chance our other times at CC but this time I am booked on the repo and have my parasailing excursion booked.

I figured if I was going to try it with anyone...it would be DCL.

I tried to book a parasailing excursion for us, but it wasn't listed anymore. Does it fill up quickly? Is there still achance of cancellation and that it will "reappear" again? Should we check now or check on the ship?

I did this 2 years ago on a Disney Cruise....and I felt very safe. I went up with my fiance. We loved it and you get great views of the island. There are 2 or 3 workers on the boat and I felt safe the whole time. Very professional.

Have a great time!

Travis

p.s. take one of thse water-proof cams to get some great shots of the ship!

DH and I parasailed at Castaway Cay last October - it was a blast! The guys running the excursion were very safety conscious and they were good at figuring out who was nervous (me!) and who wasn't (husband!) and adjusting the experience accordingly.

We took a waterproof camera with us so that we could get pictures while we were in the air and they turned out great. The view is incredible and you won't believe how peaceful it is.

Take a chance...you'll be glad you did! :goodvibes

If you can't fnd it on line, call Disney Cruise directly. Go as early as you can, the weather acan get windy as the day wears on but they won't let you go if there might be a problem
I am 50- decided it would be less painful than a tatoo but wanted to do something to celebrate my 50th year.... all I can say is it added another dimension to the Disney magic in my heart. I don't do rollercoasters, I hide my eyes at scarey parts in a movie, and I must admit, the boat ride out had my heart a bit racey. But the guys were fabulous that ran the boat, never was I scared, and the feeling was not like anything I could explain. My daughter and her best friend went tandum after me and I am SO glad we all did it. JUST DO IT!

My husband and I did it last year. It was so much fun!! Be sure to take a camera up with you and also have someone in the boat taking pictures of you (way up in the air). :)
