If you've gotten rid of your landline phone...

For 911 with the Google Voice + OBi that I have, I can buy a Pay per Call plan through CallCentric that will give me 911 capabilities.

It costs a few bucks for initial setup, then you pay a small fee per month ($1.50) for the 911 recovery fee.

Most of the other Internet voice providers have 911 included in their package. I know that Ooma does. It's no different than how it works for a landline provider.

The biggest change is that, VoIP equipment can be easily moved to a new location. If a user moves the equipment, they are responsible for sending the new address information to their VoIP provider who will then update the 911 database.

The only internet option in this area is Time Warner or thru a landline using Verizon. I spent over a month trying to find another option locally. One company said they had service but were "re-pricing" and would get back to me in a few days; it's been three months and I am still waiting. I tried two months ago and was given the same "a few days". Gave up on them. It's frustrating that there are no other companies in this area.

A friend just signed up for internet thru her cell provider at the same time I was looking. She is going back to Time Warner because between four lines they were at their data limit for the month.

Time Warner is a cable provider with cable internet. You don't need a landline to have internet.
