I went on the field trip today with my child's first grade class to the local high school cafeteria. They make all of the food for the high school and elementary schools.

It was so disgusting! Lunch meat sitting out for hours. Raw meat of some kind dripping on the floor.

I almost threw up. I don't even know why I'm posting. I'm so disgusted and upset.

:earseek: It happens everywhere :(

My daughter goes to a private high school where the majority of the students and most of the teachers live on campus.

Two nights ago, every student and teacher who ate the sweet and sour chicken woke up around 4:30 in the morning with nasty food poisoning!

Thankfully, my DD didn't eat the S & S chicken!

Yikes. What kind of sanitary grade does the cafeteria get? Here, each cafeteria prepares the food for its schools and they regularly get more than 100% at inspection -- making them the highest rated eateries in our area. You can get over 100 by participating in workshops.

You should call the Health Dept. My mother in law works in the kitchen at our local high school. Nothing is ever left out, food is prepared fresh and anything left over gets discarded. She is at work at 6:00 AM to start preparation for the day and she is constantly bringing home cold cuts and bread at the end of the week. That is not right that they leave stuff out like that.

What I find amazing is that this cafeteria knew that there was going to be a field trip and that they at least didn't even put on an appearance of cleanliness.

I would definitely call someone.

Quite the opposite in our school system (thank God). We are good friends with the manager of the cafeteria in one of the elementary schools. She regularly attends training classes to keep current on food service sanitary standards and she puts that training to work each and every day. You could literally eat off the floor of her kitchen at the school.

I agree that it's time to call the state health department and get this situation rectified ASAP.

I agree you should call the state health dept too!

Do you want your child to eat a lunch provided by them? You have an obligation to your child and others to report this if it was truly that unsanitary.

The really scary thing is that maybe they DID think this was an appearance of cleanliness--maybe on other days things are even worse!
That is just horrible. I'm glad to hear you complained. Please pursue it!

EWWWWW!!! Those poor kids!

That is DISGUSTING!!

A school field trip to a school cafeteria. Fun. Sounds like it was more exciting than you probably hoped it would be. Gross :crazy2:.

If I saw that in DS school, I would have to send him with a lunch box. Our schools fix their own lunches and usually have 99-100% on santitation
