I always thought so too which is why we always went in September. When I starting planning our trip for my DS's April vacation I was terrified that the crowds would be unbearable but it really wasn't too bad. Not as slow as September for sure but no where near as crowded as it was when we went over xmas break in 2006.

Just a thought, but check with your sis and see if there are any other dates at odd times when he is off. For example, my kids have 2.5 days off for Columbusday Weekend so basically if we leave Thursday right after school and return Wednesday evening we can get in a weeks vacation with only 1.5 days out of school.

I agree with this. I know in January around MLK day, my kids are out almost for a whole week for Teacher Workdays and stuff. You should check to see what his calendar looks like for this year.

The week before school starts is usually relatively calm. Much better than holidays!
