This is just a simple straight forward poll to see what the most popular UY would be if you could choose with the knowledge you have now as owners.

I'm assuming you would only be purchasing one contract and with your original intentions on length of ownership.

100% BANKING DEADLINES
Feb -> Sept 30
March -> Oct. 31
April -> Nov 30
June -> Jan 31
Aug -> March 31
Sept -> April 30
Oct -> May 31
Dec -> July 31

Post your reason if you like....

We currently have a February UY, but the more we think about how we will be using our points, it looks like a March UY would have been better for us. Since we are retired we are not restricted to certain periods for travel. However, we like to bring family with school age children, so March, April and the summer months are months we are most interested. Like the idea of staying in December but that would only be for us since it's outside the banking period.

Since we are retired, we can go almost any time of the year. Thus, there is no single UY that is the "best" or the "worst" for us. Although we can travel anytime we want, there are times we will be inviting family members to join us, and since there are school-age kids in our extended family, our family gatherings will probably be in March, April, June, July, or August. Therefore, our February UY should work out well for us and our family trips. However, if I had to do it all over again, I might go with a March UY instead. Like February, a March UY would accommodate our family gathering dates. But if we plan a December Holiday trip, a March UY would give us an additional month to use our points if we had to cancel a December trip. With our February UY, we'll only have a month to reschedule our points.

We have a September UY but as we tend to visit between April and December so a March UY might have been better.

We visit in October, December, and May. We have a September UY, and that's as good as it gets. That said, I chose October.

Yes, the banking deadlines are important, but don't we really have an extra month? I mean, if you cancel within 30 days your points go into holding and can't be banked regardless.

I have a September UY, and often vacation in May. My banking deadline is April, but that's sort of irrelevant since if I cancel in April OR May my points are not bankable anyway.

Am I messing that up?

Exactly MG! I just didn't attempt to explain that extra month rational.

October, based upon out periods of travel. We hate the warmer months.

We're retired and go in off peak times....In 15 years Use Year has never
been a factor:cool1:

we have Feb now and it works well for us with school age children and getting out of the cold during winter. But as the kids grow up and move on i think December would be better for us to take advantage of lower points in January to extend our stay and still give us a cushion to use points should we have to cancel for some reason.

We rarely travel over the holidays and never during the winter. March is great in that I can get that infrequent Thanksgiving trip in and still have time to bank should it be cancelled.

I was given an October UY with little UY knowledge and to be honest I havent found any issues... I think I would be happy with any UY. I just make my trips at the eleven month window or whenever I guess it comes to mind. I have banked and borrowed at random times and my points are all crazy at this point, but UY has never bothered me one bit!

We have an Oct UY and it's perfect for us since we visit WDW between the months of October and May. So if I had to choose over again, I would choose October, again.

We travel in November and May...so we got an October use year...and it is perfect for us. As our lives change...so might our travel patterns...but for now....October is perfect for us....A blessed Christmas and New Years to All !! :santa:

I chose what I have, March, because there really isn't a UY month when we're not likely to travel to WDW after these new banking deadlines.

I do not like the only 100% deadline.

DH and I can go anytime, but refuse to go in the hot Summertime.

I chose October because that would put our primary travel time (October - February) early in our use year, but would also allow us to plan for May before banking.

When is our UY...February. :confused3

I do really like our February UY in one respect...New Calender Year...New Use Year...or close to it.

I like that my 2010 points are good from 2/1/10 -1/31/11!

I also chose an October UY because I prefer not to go during the summer (VA is hot enough!). I also like to go when DD has a few days off of school that is not a holiday. Where we live (Fairfax County) the schools have two mini-breaks where the schools close for 2 days in a row for teacher work days. These occur in October/November and January/February.

I chose April.

We travel in April, August, October or early November.

Our UY is August which is fine for all of our travel dates except April - which is after our banking deadline. So an April UY would work for every one of our trips if we ever had to cancel and needed to bank before the deadline.

To avoid having your points go into Holding (which makes them unbankable among other things), you need to cancel a trip 31 days or more in advance. So if you need to cancel an April trip and want to avoid the Holding account penalty, you would need to cancel some time in March at the latest. Since your banking deadline is March 31st, you would still be in your 100% banking window at that time. If you cancel an April trip after March 31st, you would be within 30 days of check in and couldn't bank those points even if you were still within your 100% banking window. So taking that into account, your Aug UY covers all your normal travel dates.

This assumes you use only current UY points for the trip. Any banked or borrowed points cannot be banked and would expire on July 31st no matter when you cancelled your trip. I sometimes use a few banked or borrowed points for our stays. With our Oct UY, if I had to cancel a May trip that used banked/borrowed points I would have a tough time using those points before they expired on Sep 30th since there is little chance of us going to WDW from Jun-Sep.
