I was a teenager in the 70s and lived in New Mexico. If I followed what I wore then, I would wear bell bottoms with really big bells and a shirt with bell sleeves. Since this is a party I'm going to I'm probably not going to be wearing denim and the bottom of my pants aren't going to be frayed, in my every day life they were frayed. Probably a fringe vest of some kind. My hair would be long and straight parted in the middle, with one little braid on each side. I would have on some sort of dangling ear rings, probably something with a feather in them and I would have at least one feather in my braids. I would have rings on at least 3 fingers of each hand, long nails most likely painted some weird color. Blue eye shadow but not much other make up. Platform shoes.
In real life in the 70s, you never knew what I'd have on. One day it might be a maxi skirt with appliques on the bottom, or a mini skirt way to short, or bell bottoms and a midriff top, or even a jumpsuit. I wore culottes a lot (our version of skorts) that usually had more than one pattern on them since Mama made most of my clothes and she would use left overs so I might have the legs one material and the front and back flaps another. I also wore gaucho pants a lot. There were a lot of fringe ponchos in my wardrobe, it was New Mexico. I had lots of boots, most with fringe, some thigh high. My hair was always long, almost to my bottom and it was always either just hanging down with little braids in it or in side braids (think native American). True story - I was in the drama club and one play I was in I played a lady of the night. I wore clothes from my closet. I had on a pair of short shorts, a midriff top, thigh high blue shiny boots, think Pretty Woman long before it came out.
