If you think people can get in a tiff here then don't try posting on FODOR'S.com

I am planning a trip to Paris and Northern France so I was looking for a board like the DISboards for that reason. Well, all I could find that seemed to work was Fodors.com and all I can say is that it's not for the easily offended.

You can not ask a simple question without the resident hotheads jumping down your throat.

Today, I asked about what kind of budget I should make and how much money I will need...Here are some responses after I asked what others spend.

"Charge everything you can and get cash from ATM machines."

Really nice things, including many of the south of France. Most are in the 1000 - 2500 Euro range if you're in the mood to splurge.

After saying I was not a "Foodie" (Fodors speek for a person who really likes fine dining) I got this response:

But if you are not "foodies" --- whatever that is -- why go to Paris? Half the reason to go to Paris is the food --- and the wine

I tried to explain that it was trying to figure out a budget not do a super budget trip...then I got these answers:

Are you asking how much "cash" to bring along, or are you asking how much we think you'll spend each day? There is a HUGE difference. ATM's are everywhere! If your bank account is limitless, then what's the problem?

I guess my simple answer, since you aren't concerned about budgets (but your meal plans suggest otherwise IMO),

And my fave: You can walk all over Paris in twelve days and save on transportation.

All I wanted to know was how much money to allocate for each day. Of the 15 responses, only 3 were about what to expect to spend.

I wish I could find a helpful site. this is not the first time they have bashed me or other posters. And a word of warning, don't mention Rick Steves on there because a flame resistant suit is not going to help.

If I did not need their help for this trip I would never visit that site again.

thank you all for being so nice here on the DIS, We have a good board here.

Wow. I'm not surprised though. I've been on a few of those boards before.

Try tripadvisor.com - it might be better! :thumbsup2

I had no idea that Tripadvisor had a discussion board...Cool, thanks.

As for Fodor's, I find it annoying but this was a very mild case. they call people liars, losers, ugly, etc...

Someone asked about Bed sizes and right off the bat, they were called "Fat Americains" who are too fat to snuggle in a regular sized bed...I stayed away from that one. It got ugly fast.:surfweb:

Then definitely don't venture to cruisecritic... I'm still emotionally scarred :rotfl:

Yes the dis is the best!:thumbsup2

Now hows that kitten of yours!:yay:

The kitten is stoned on catnip as we post...He's super cool.

He's so adorable. Everyone who comes over talks about how good he is with strangers. I think it's the 10 days he spent in the "Motel" Office and all the guests coming and going.

No Cruise critic for me unless I am heavily medicated.:rotfl:

Where in the North of France are you planning on going? DH is from Lille and we know the area really well. Feel free to PM if you want to talk about it!!

That's kind of funny because I used fodor's before and came across a post of someone asking Disney advice and someone responded something like "whatever you do, do NOT go to disboards.com. I asked a simple mug question and had 10 pages of people berating me."
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've used tripadvisor forums and also like slowtrav.com for Europe trip advice.

Good grief and to think I thought the DIS CB was a cyber he!!hole due to emotional scarring and tempers flaring. BTW, I love it here on the CB and consider this my DIS home.

I have looked around a Survivor board and hoy cow......I would never post on that board. They would eat me alive!

Karen

Yup - I've run into a few boards like that.. Real "chew 'em up, spit 'em out" kinds.. Can't ask the simplest question without people jumping all over you like you're the village idiot or something..

So.....I annoy people HERE with my ridiculous questions instead.. Aren't 'cha glad?? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I started reading some of the New Orleans boards after Katrina to find out what was happening in New Orleans as I didn't get back to my home there for two months.

People (rarely from New Orleans) get on and spew some of the WORST racist garbage. I haven't posted there in over a year. I try to read some of the news articles, but the discussion boards just have way too much offensive stuff on them.

I'm planning a trip to Italy and have spent a lot of time lately at Frommers.com, and I have found those folks to be extremely helpful and kind.

I second trip advisor. They have some really helpful information for the entire world! Also, if you have any specific Paris related questions, PM me with them and I will try to help you--I was just there a few weeks ago. :)

I actually like Fodors.com but then I have never asked questions about France. Perhaps there are some French people on the board and they do tend to be rude. ;) . I usually stick to the Hawaii board and some of the hot issues are;
1. Don't say there isn't enough to keep you busy on O'ahu for (fill in the number of days up to 365).
2. Don't ask a frequently asked question without doing a search first.
3. Don't say wonderful things about the Blue books, Maui Revealed, etc.
4. At least know something about each island before you ask; "which islands should I visit?
5. And most important...Should I book three coach seats for my toddler, DH and I or should we book two first class seats for the three of us. Thats a great 'conversation starter'.

Hilarious Dawn! I used to frequent the Hawaii boards too (maybe I've seen you there! :yay: ) and you are dead on!
