If you store luggage, do you tip again when you pick it up?

Hi.

This is probably an embarrassing question. While I use bell services for my luggage when I arrive, I have never used it anywhere when I leave.

However, I think I'm going to start having bell services hold our luggage on check out days, so we can play in the park a while longer.

Obviously, you tip when they pick up the bags from your room.

However, when you go to the bell desk, and they bring the bags out to you, you tip then too I suppose?

Just wanted to double check.

Thanks.

I did. When I stashed my bags at the PPH Bell Desk after I checked out, I gave them some money when I left the bags and when I went to pick up my bags a few hours later. When I picked the bags up, I had intended to only give a certain amount (a couple of bucks per bag, maybe, or like an even five bucks for a couple of bags), but it turned out that I had extra $1 bills rolled up in what I thought I was giving them...so they got more than I intended to give! I think I ended up giving them something like $15 for 2 bags!!:rotfl2:

The guy who took the money seemed very grateful and gracious.:rotfl2: Merry Christmas from me!:rotfl2: It could have been worse - I could have accidentally grabbed a larger bill.

When I have gotten my bags back from bell service, it usually coincides with putting them in the car to go home, so the bellhop loads the bags into my car, and I tip him for that.

i would tip them, my rule is tip everytime anybody helps me, i do work in a hotel so i know how those guys feel, but also if you only throw them $2-3, everytime it is better than nothing, they will remember who tips and who does not, even if it is only a dollar it is better than not tipping, and if you think you will end up tipping them a couple of times just make it a couple of bucks, then like a fiver, or ten, when you leave.

Cool. Good point. Hopefully the valet and the bell service have good timing?

Sometimes I wish though all these fees could just be added to your stay. It's a pain having cash ready.

Also, valet is so much money to have to tip too.

I agree with CC. I think if they helpl you either taking your bags when you check in, picking your bags up from your room, or bringing them to your car after storage you should give them something. I do think the common rate is $2/bag. But if you are just storing them I think a smaller amount would do.

In this scenario I would only tip when I pick up the bags from the bell desk. I wouldn't tip when they pick them up from the room. I would consider this one ongoing service but I would also give a fairly good tip if they are going to be taking the bags, holding them, then bringing them out to the car.
