If you show up late to pick up your rental car . . .

is that okay? We are traveling in December and if we happened to get bumped from our flight or if we had a weather delay and got in several hours late would there be a problem? Or if we saw something like that occurring should we give National a call?

If you've given National your flight number, they will be monitoring the status fo the flight and your reservation will be honored when you do get in. If you get bumped, call them and tell them your new flight info.

In January our flight was 8 hours late leaving. We called National and they made a notation on our reservation. It was no problem at all, but I would call and let them know.

Call the rental company if you are going to be late! A few years ago we were flying into Denver and our connecting flight was delayed due to thunderstorms in Chicago. We were scolded by the Avis rental car people in Denver who said they expected to hear from us if we were delayed!!!! They wanted to charge us a late pick-up fee but we were adamant and refused. We were also exhausted from a long, long day that started in DC at 8:00 AM and ended in Denver at 9:00 PM that night. The good thing that happened was that we got upgraded from a small sedan to a minivan for free for our three week trip out west!

On Aug. 25 I voluntarially got bumped from my SW flight and arrived at MCO 2 hours later. I picked out my car (EA) and headed to the booth. Nothing was said about me being 2 hours late. When I returned my car to the Dolphin, I was also 2 hours later than the return time. I asked Melissa if I was going to be charged anything extra and was happily answered no.

Most agenices hold your reservation for 24 hours from your estimated pick up time. HOwever, if you are going to be late, a phone call is the polite thing to do.
